Kylian Kouassi

Aah...Soz, I'll leave you to it.
No, join in, I thought Kenny was great in league 1 but I thought he struggled for 2 seasons in the Championship, but he never hides and he was always played as a defensive midfielder and he isn't that, he is better further forward, picking up the pieces and driving forward, I would have him on the team sheet every week now, same as Matty Virtue and Ollie Norburn, that is our most solid midfield but we have to play 2 wingers who can defend a bit with the 2 strikers.

Kenny, at his best, disrupts play and gets things going. But, you're right, he isn't always at his best. The last two years I've seen some good Dougall but also some wayward passes. Here's hoping he's on song this season.

I don’t want to rain on the parade but as the man who outed Beesley as not even league 2 standard and got pelters for it, proved right but I’m not one to say I told you so, I really wouldn’t hang your hat on the big guy. Yes he did well today but studying him I don’t think he has the technique or pace to trouble any half decent Defender, he was up against the worst defence I’ve seen for a while today. Hoping Joseph proves to be the answer otherwise I’d be on the blower to the goal machine. Had a dream the other night that we got to the play off final and he came off the bench and got a late winner in front of the Pool end, diving header.
So you dream about an immobile, one paced(slow), aging piss pot scoring with a diving header! Bit weird unless it's yourself!
Too early to say how good Kouassi will be but this season he is a better option than Madine and Madine is only going to get worse.

He did more yesterday than Beesley had done in 6 League games. It made such a difference.

Not the most mobile, but powerful & learning off Jordan Rhodes (master craftsman) and as he plays more games and he could be a proper decent find.
All our strikers should benefit from playing with Rhodes.

You watch him and he might not be that fast, but he uses his intelligence to anticipate what might happen to gain that extra yard or two.

They need to learn from his runs, where he wants the ball, his link play, when to pass and when to hold it up etc.

You do need that football brain, but players improve with better players around them.

Had a dream home debut after impressing when he came on in the cup game and scored. He is a proper striker, strong, fast, good in the air and linked brilliantly with Rhodes, if he can keep that sort of performance up and improve he is going to be some player. Well played son.

As for the rest of the team, the big difference was Dale in for Connolly, it worked, he had a great game and boy can he put a cross in, he was awesome today as was CJ. They both tracked back too and got tackles in but the back 3 were really solid and covered a lot of ground and still managed to get forward. Hubby is essential in this, he played across the back 3 at times and his outlet balls were excellent, close to my MOM today.

I also thought, after the first 10 minutes the midfield 3 did their jobs really well, all 3 are experienced players and all slightly different, shame Kenny got injured, I hope he is okay and I also rate Virtue, he is a powerhouse and you can see his Liverpool pedigree, it's no coincidence that Lincoln desperately wanted him off us, we did the right thing keeping him.

I thought Weir did okay when he came on but I see Carey more as a number 10 than a number 8 so he was a little lost I thought. Connolly coming on for Dale showed how badly Critch has got it wrong as he just does not work in that position but he is a great player to have on the pitch.

Dembele barely had any time to shine but he put a great ball through to Weir who should have scored and he could have got a goal himself at the end but for the offside. He needs to be playing.

I hope Critchley sticks with Kouassi, I like Lav's but he huffs and puffs a lot and we still have Joseph to come too.

It is really pleasing to see a performance like that especially after the first 10 minutes when we looked like strangers. The pen settled us down and we took control after that, Tough game next Saturday but no better time than to get our first league away win.

All we want is to see the team enjoy it and play well and they certainly did today.
Agree with (nearly) all of that. The balance was perfect. You summed it up exactly as I saw it. Dougall for Morgan, Dale for Connolley and Kouassi for Beesley (or Lavery) gives us so much more strength, possession in the right areas, quality and creativity. Also my stand out players, apart from the obvious Rhodes, was Kouassi with all his attributes he's a perfect foil for Rhodes. Dale was brilliant, his tenacity and quality were things I've not seen so much before. Dougall is so experienced in what he does. Yes Virtue is like a Rolls Royce on the ball. Husband looks a class act at the back. Rhodes was everywhere! An absolute nightmare for 3rd division defenders. The only one I'm still not convinced with is Weir, his missed shot summed up where he is at the moment. Dembele looks too small and Lavery even after over 2 years and 70 odd games I'm not convinced he is good enough?

What we don't need is Critchley reverting back to the negativity of his away set-ups next game. Let's take the game to everyone and let them worry about us.

Great OP, today was 3-5-2 at its best; steely midfield, solidity at the back, creative wing backs, and a clinical strike partnership.

Love Kouassi getting the start and rewarding the faith instantly. Him, Lavery, and Joseph are going to benefit massively from playing with Rhodes.

Dale was infinitely more effective than Connolly. He’s a good stop gap until Lyons is back.

Reading are going to be a lower mid table team and doing that to them at home doesn’t say a lot, but it is promising nonetheless.
I saw it more of a 3-1-4-2 with Norburn playing in front of the back 3 as protection. A diamond in midfield with Dougall deep and Virtue further forward. Dale and CJ box to box wingers helped out by Husband and Pennington when in possession. And Kouassi playing off Rhodes. It was a perfect formation but the main reason it was so successful was it was the perfect 11 of our squad for the formation. Enforced changes meant that after winning the first half 3-0 we were much poorer for having lost Dale, Dougall and Kouassi for Connolley, Weir and Lavery, hence why we drew the 2nd half 1-1.

Yes Weir missed that late chance but for the sake of balance his through ball set up Rhodes for the 4th goal , acknowledged himself by Rhodes.

Critchley says KK scored oyr goal against Everton in the behind closed doors game ....

"He’s been brilliant to work with so far. He’s come from nowhere late, and is a humble boy.

"He’s willing to learn and listen because he wants to get better.

"He’s got a confidence about him but no arrogance at all.

"We do a lot of work on the players before we bring them in - we watch them extensively, so we knew the type of footballer we were going to get.

"We are scratching at the surface of what his potential is.

“We need to take baby steps with him because it’s going to take time.

"He’s shown a glimpse of what he’s capable of in the future.

"When we get him fitter and more attuned to how we are playing, then he’s shown aspects that could make him a big player for us.

"We had a game against Barrow where he scored, he got one in a behind closed doors game against Everton, so he can get a goal.

"He’s got a lot of attributes. If we can be patient and not put too much pressure on him then I think he can be a fantastic player for us.

"I was delighted with his header against Reading, and he might’ve had one or two more before half time.

"He’s very strong, if you get the ball into him then he can hold defenders off.

"He’s got good technique, he keeps the ball really well, and he’s good in the air.

"He gives us some presence at the top of the pitch.

"Him and Jordan (Rhodes) caused Reading a lot of problems.

"I was joking after the game saying he’ll go big time now he’s got a goal, just to make sure he keeps his feet on the floor."

I'm friends with someone who until recently was in a senior position at Sutton. He's told me that we have made an absolute steal here. Their chief scout who has 50 years in the game has said that Kouassi is one of the best prospects he's ever seen. Everything we see is what Kouassi has been doing all along for Sutton since coming through their youth development system. Apparently his contract ran down and his agent touted him around rather than taking an offer from Sutton. All they will be entitled to is "development compensation" which will be decided by FA tribunal. Pretty unfair, but on this occasion we are the beneficiary for once.

I looked at the Sutton forum earlier. It's a bit sparse but one chap posted that KK had scored for us, another said he's much more disappointed they didn't keep Olaofe who's at Stockport. Then someone predicted KK will play in the Premier Leage which prompted this...

"Andorran or Scottish? Seriously, he doesn't have the pace to play at the top level. One poster seemed to mistakenly think Killian was 'fast'. Others quickly disabused him of that notion. Besides lack of pace, his main weakness was general awareness of the ball and positioning which are very much coachable, so they must've seen enough in his raw atttributes. You'd expect the coaching set up at a club like Blackpool to offer much more than we can. Can't harm our tribunal outcome if he's playing for the first team and scoring."

How much is pace going to be an issue?

He looked pretty speedy on Saturday. Of course Rhodes isn't blessed with pace but he has such positional awareness, like GTF had so playing alongside Rhodes and training with him is going to be immeasurably helpful to the lad. I haven't been as excited by a player as much as him since....... Teddy Prenderghast!!

People loved Madine and he was slower than most League 1 centre backs.
Lack of pace might prevent him playing at the very highest level but you can still have a good career.

Absolutely. Interesting to see how he develops.

Can we please start giving Kouassi his full name. Kilian Prince - Emanuel Tresor Kouassi. Must be a song in there somewhere and certainly one for Chrissy and Brett to include.
Why not just go with the acronym: KPETK?

That would 'perhaps' make it a little more adaptable to a song (as compared to trying to accommodate his full 'handle') for any tunesmiths out there? Not so sure that it would become any more accessible to the dynamic duo, though ...

I thought Kylian Kouassi had a tremendous debut after the first 10 or 15 minutes when he was far too easily brushed off the ball. When he got to the pace of the game, he linked up great with the rest of the team, and looks to have already struck up a strike partnership with Jordan Rhodes. I was talking to a Pool fan this morning, and when I mentioned Saturday's win, he just said, "What a fantastic header." I couldn't have summed it up better.
