Hope it's better tomorrow, our friends travelled up today , over 3.5 hours with a long detour with the motorway closed at junction 29

Long detour at junction 39 Sharp to 40 Penrith. All closed due to lorry overturn onto the central reservation.
It’s all closed going north.
We came up today and turned off at Barrow/south lakes and went passed Windermere over Kirkstone pass up past up past Ullswater to Pooley Bridge then on to A66 to rejoin at junction 40.
Added around 1 hour 30 mins on so get ready to set off earlier if it’s still closed as stated above.
Also slow traffic returning south as they have shut outside lane for repair.
Set off early 🍊🍊🍊🍊

If there's resurfacing and barrier work to complete, it'll take some time before it reopens. Fortunately the weather is good & they can crack on with the work.
I hope the team coach has followed your initiative & are chilling overnight in Carlisle 🍊

Best go earlier then.

Buy a ticket to Layton to get thro the barriers at North. Or better still get it from South on a promise to pay to nob end.
Get a Penrith to Carlisle cheapy to clear barriers at Carlisle.
Just make sure your booked ticket isn’t scanned and claim a full refund for the cancellation. Jibbers 👍

We set off at 3pm, came off at Kendal and came through the lakes and then north via mungrisdale
A journey that should have taken 1:40 took 2:45
A couple of pints in the Old Crown in Hesket Newmarket softened the blow of the extended journey
Hope it clears by tomorrow for the rest of the intrepid travellers from the Gold Coast
