Madine

I like him but he just can’t keep cool. Bit similar to incident at Cardiff he got away with it. Wound up by something and just couldn’t distract himself from it. Wanted revenge

How many games is he suspended for? Is it 4? Violent conduct plus he technically got a red against Blackburn aswell.

He fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book. You'd think he'd have learnt by now that defenders will niggle and niggle. Just couldn't keep his cool.

Pathetic.

Can I be horribly controversial and say I have never liked Madine as a player. Leads to one dimensional football, doesn't put himself about half as much as he should and his only real asset is corners for the away side. Not for me.
Yes. I like him but he limits and Stifles our creativity. Decent player to bring off the bench

naturally comes in for criticism following his red card. He's not the long term answer whatever division we're in as although we need that type of player ie a target man, he needs to be much more mobile than Madine is. For me, I recognise what he is and that is just a target man and in that respect I think he's done well for us. I'd release him at the end of season though.

Not sure couldn’t see who it was and haven’t seen any replays.

We’re a better aide without him anyway.
It was Lees. Came running to the touch line like he just fell over. He went down and stayed down (Lees) thought he would have at least had his head bandaged or cotton wool up his Nose.

Must have some mental challenges, the way he has acted himself this season.
Hope he gets help, and sorts out whatever issues he has.

As generally is the case, (on on pitch matters 😉) you are spot on.

Super Gaz has taken a lot of bruising and played through chronic injuries for us. He's a player of singular ability at what he does. He's an option we need but he shouldn't be plan A and he shouldn't have been all season but that's a matter of recruitment and not his fault.

He was stupid last night and I suspect his head is all over the place at the moment.

What I don't get is apparent 'fans' delighting in a player getting sent off who undoubtedly offers an option that is otherwise absent from the squad.

I literally don't get it. I'm not the biggest fan of, I dunno, Chris Maxwell (as an example) but I don't get chufties on when he makes a mistake and delight in it but it appears that 'being right all along' based on the evidence of a single incident is all that matters to some.

I take it we haven’t appealed his red card.
I’m not sure what the defence would be.

“Errmmm sorry gov, he’s just a bit mental, and well he is a Geordie after all 🤷‍♂️“ *wink*

Lees played his part there was no cut etc on his face, I think he conned the ref. But I also think Madine as our captain & could have avoided the incident.

He's been an asset to us with his outlet & hold up play & the odd goal plus great defensive duties, His temperament has got the better of his discipline a few times too many. I thought at one time he was our only guaranteed Championship standard player, but I feel he has let us & himself down, shithousery is ok but you've got to stay on the pitch.

He was getting a yellow, until their players convinced the ref to change it to a red.
If that happened it did so very quickly. It looks like the red was pretty instant from our distance.

I think I he sideline reaction was very telling. Normally there's at least a consoling pat on the shoulder - neither Mick or TC even looked at him.

I see him as plan B great at holding up the ball and good with it at his feet but he makes us quite predictable up front. He'd have been the perfect foil for MM football. Let's see if MM has the brains to adapt.

great at holding up the ball
I'm sorry but I don't see this. It's like the 'he's good at physicality' trope too. Just not true but I understand some will clamour not to be wholly negative about a Pool stalwart. Feels like clutching at straws to me.

I watched the Liverpool away Prem game on DVD last night. Missed it first time around as it was my son's christening that day, we decided to watch it together for the first time yesterday. Now that first half was a masterclass in holding long balls up or ensuring they are headed to another Pool player. DJ and Varney mostly finding each other, even when being jostled by taller players and being ten plus yards apart. Yet it hardly ever gets mentioned as there were so many other elements to that performance which were so good as well eg the pressing and slick passing/movement.

We really do need to disabuse ourselves of the idea that GM offers rare and unique abilities, so subtle that they mostly go unseen by the untrained eye.

Correct.

Baffles me that people seem to think he can hold the ball up just because he’s a bigger bloke than some others.

I actually think Yates holds the ball up and brings others into play better than Madine.
