Manchester United Season ticket holders

Firstly I strongly dislike all things United but have a lot of sympathy for fans having lost there season tickets for missing a certain number of home games. I’ve a few mates at work that go a lot and reckon United are just trying to get rid of long standing season tickets holders as they don’t spend much cash and replace them with tourists and higher earning fans who will spend bundles. Thoughts?

I don’t give a rats dick about that horrible club and it’s entitled fans.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t but the bigger picture is football at the top level doesn’t need fans anymore and IMO that is very worrying. Off topic but haven’t Man City taken rows of seats out to make bigger advertisement boards?! Old news that but another example the games gone

i get whatyou are saying but football clubs always need fans. Fans still play a massive part on the game. Players still need the adoration of fans. How many players would be prepared to play for a club that doesn't have fans? None or very few, The day all fans turn their back on football then football is finished. But it will never happen.

It's probably happening at a lot of Premiership clubs to be honest. My cousin are STH's
at Liverpool and one of their friends has been on the ST waiting list for years.
When they built the new Main stand and then the new Anfield Rd Stand, he thought
he'd have a chance of at last getting a ST, as the capacity overall has increased from 45k to 61k.
But it turns out the vast majority of new seats are corporate and the increased capacity has
barely made a dent in the ST waiting list. Doesn't seem right does it.
My cousins have told me that round where they sit, there are often loads of foreign tourists
around them.
Also a while ago they were walking through Stanley Park on their way to a game.
There were two young scouse kids playing football on the park who shouted at them
'enjoy the game'. My cousin asked them if they were going and they replied that they'd never been
to a game despite the fact they lived a stones throw from the stadium, as their parents couldn't afford tickets.
How sad is it that local kids can't afford to watch their team. But a sign of the greed and where the game has
gone in search of money,.

Manchester United is an English institution. It’s an absolutely fantastic football club with a rich and successful history and essentially these are the things we are all hoping to emulate. Unfortunately people love to hate anyone or anything that is successful in this Country.

I’ve no idea what the specific details of this, but in principle it doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect fans to attend a reasonable number of games if they have a Season Ticket. In fact arguably it prevents the ‘money bags’ types who can afford to pay for a ST and then attend once in a Blue Moon (pardon the pun) from doing so and instead encourages proper fans who actually want to watch their team.

I always find it a sickening feeling driving through the Anfield area seeing the run down buildings with trees growing out of the roofs sat alongside the football stadium and all its associated obscene wealth. A snapshot of how great and widening the gap is between rich and poor the longer capitalism goes on.

I’ve no idea myself but the fans that have been kicked out reckon the club are more interested in selling the seats at a premium (one lad says upto £1495 per game) rather than a season ticket that brings in around £900 that will be a exaggerated story but it probably won’t be too far from the truth.
yeah obviously you want fans to take up there seat as much as possible but personally it doesn’t sit well with me, think I’ve only got to half out home games the last 3/4 seasons due to work but would rather pay the season ticket than as hoc match day tickets

Football clubs do need fans but I think my point been Football clubs don’t treat fans as they should. It’s all seems money and corporate now at the top level

It’s not unlike fans to come out with conspiracy type bollocks though, especially when they don’t like the owners.

Ultimately it’s impossible to have a sensible discussion on this unless you know the facts. If fans are losing ST’s for failing to attend one or two games, then that seems unreasonable to me…. If fans are losing their ST’s because they are only attending a handful of games, then I think it’s justifiable.

Its slightly different at Blackpool, because you aren’t taking up a seat that is in demand when you are a none-attending Season Ticket Holder… If availability was in short supply, then personally I think its a bit selfish to buy a seat and leave it empty.

Anfield is a bit of a shithole but Liverpool as a city is definitely on the up..

Is it not more to stop fans selling the tickets on a game by game basis on the ticket exchange or to touts etc and making loads of money themselves? It's all well and good to say the football club are exploiting the fans (which they are doing in a lot of instances ) but fans themselves are also guilty of exploiting other fans and tourists etc who pay obscene amounts to go to the games.

Are your mates from the Fylde coast area?

They should so the same with 2nd home owners in Cornwall and Lakeland.

yep, but it's a closed market. I know you say it's just the top level but even though it's on a much smaller scale Sadler is just the same. He maximises every bit of profit that he can. That's the way pretty much most clubs operate.

Elite level clubs don't need physical fans, you have to steward them, look after a stadium, have food, drink toilets etc etc. Match day revenue is miniscule compared to sponsors , tv money and merchandise. Clubs like them would prefer to play in an indoor complex with green screens being shown on pay per view around the world.
Absolute garbage. People would simply lose interest without the passion, atmosphere and nastiness of the physical crowd

If that was AI generated on green screens your average family in China paying 15 quid a game to watch wouldn't really notice or care

Maybe, but they're all quite happy to see the extra money the tourists bring in being spent on a few extra players for the squad, aren't they.
Theyr'e on Sky every other week so I can't see what the problem is.

Maybe so, but it Europe, where it all happens the game would be over.
Agreed but the likes of real, barca, milan would survive with just ppv and the savings from no stadium. English clubs like Man Utd would become even richer and kill the game even more

Gerrard's team played in front of 750 in Saudi. Players were happy to play there 😉

I hear all you say but I'm thinking it's possible for supporters who have genuine gripes to have them more easily ignored because they face some of the allegations that you suggest - don't like owners etc.

I will add though that it is very hard to get Utd supporters to accept that their is a correlation between their dislike of the Glazers and a lack of on field success, those Newton Heath scarves weren't about when Utd were still winning the league under Ferguson and the Glazers.

Feck it, I'm probably going off topic now or was never on it, I agree with you !!!!!!!!!!

Of course it’s possible, I was just offering an alternative possible explanation to the O/P. As I said, without the proper facts and context, it’s difficult to have a proper discussion.👍

As someone else said, it’s also possible that certain entrepreneurial fans are making a few quid by buying ST’s and then flogging them for top dollar to foreign tourists.
