Memories of the Clarets

I think my main memory will be when Eyres scored for them and celebrated in front of the Blackpool fans. Never warmed to him from that moment even though I ironically met him a few years later and was actually a nice bloke who said it was' banter for all the abuse he'd received during that game'.

A 1-0 win for the Seasiders when Alan Ainscow scored, 1977-78 season. Our side of the Longside was absolutely packed and bedlam ensued when AA found the net. Happy days!!

I say it every time the subject comes up. King Bill coming out at Turf on the back of us getting whacked 5-0 at home, was it York? Awful mood in the camp, but everyone still went to Turf of course, thousands there.

Bill came out, by our corner, place erupted and he stopped, shook his head like he couldn't believe how many there were after the week before, then the fist pump. Brilliant.

Certain it wasn't the same game, but I can still remember Trev's superb cross from right in front of us, and Dave Bamber's bullet header on the end of it.

A less happy memory, them having four great forwards to choose from including Adrian Heath, rotated them around the hour. We were playing the mighty Dave Lancaster.

Anti Hooligan grease on the fence on the Longside .

1990/1 & 1991/2 away games there where we took more than we got at home the previous or next home games.

1-0 win there under Allardyce in 1996 where I was sure we were going up. We were only allowed about 750 in the Cricket Field that day due to ground redevelopments, but I know we had a few who travelled to Burnley mid-week to get tickets in the home end. Rather them than me!!

Ground redevelopment underway at Turf Moor, so they only gave us 850 seats in the Cricketfield stand.

I managed to get a seat in the Bob Lord Stand and kept silent for around 70 minutes until Andy Preece scored what turned out to be the 1 0 winner. I jumped up to find myself surrounded by plenty of other Pool fans who'd also blagged a ticket.

Great day.

I think the game you are referring to was 1994 New Years Day, we were crap, and had lost a few days earlier 5-0 at home to York. Went 1-0 up early on through Dave Lancaster, that's when I got covered in the anti hooligan grease.

I seem to remember a late Junior Bent winner. Possibly the best was the 2-2 early on in our return to the Championship with Morrell this time grabbing a point for us late in the game.

Tricky Trevs super cross for Bambers bullet header in a 1-1
Was on my way for a piss at the time and stopped to see the goal.
Celebrated like mad in front of the Dingles and was threatened with being thrown out by the police if I carried on like that.

Asked them how else they expected me to carry on after we'd just scored 🤣🤣

Didn’t John Deary insist on taking the penalty that game and gave the Blackpool fans a wry smile when he missed it?

When Ollis was phoning it in towards the end and we were dog shit at Turf Moor. The wheels had well and truly come off by that point.

I think that was the same game that Bryan Flynn lost a boot in a tackle, Paul Gardner picked it up and lobbed in our end by the half way line.

I used to prefer going there to Preston.

Away game 1993. Think we drew 2-2 and were then mathematically safe. Burnley missed a last minute penalty to ensure our safety. PNE got hammered at home that day, and were relegated.

Chants of "let's go back through Preston let's go back through Preston " rang out as we left the ground 🤣
My first visit to Turf Moor. On the Longside, I went with my dad. I seem to remember Mike Davies having a word into the pentaker's ear before he took it lol..I can't remember who saved it for us...Lee Martin??

Sounded like a right carry on! 😀

1996 in a two sided ground with just 300 of us. It went on sale to Season Ticket holders straight away none of this 5 games this year and last caper 😂

Took the piss at 3.33pm and turned our backs like they did about a Frank Teasdale protest.

Andy Preece winner at the far end. Great day.

Apart from that every memory is a defeat.

I remember that paint I was covered in it. I can remember the convoy of coaches that set off from Blackpool for the night game in 90/91. Pity we never scored that night with 6k plus there.

I think it was Preece who scored in the win in 96.

The midweek defeat when we took loads and ended up having half the Cricket stand and Longside

Mayhem all day and night
My train back to Leeds was cancelled and had to get my brother to come and collect me after the match, interesting wait for him to arrive…!

Our following in 91 was epic and it was a shame we didn't get a result. I was in The Longside and the sight of hundreds of Pool fans entering the Cricket Field Stand after booting the gates in was something else. I counted 54 coaches and buses in the convoy away from the ground.

The game in 92 where we drew 2-2 was when I encountered the anti vandal grease and spent ages trying to wipe it off on the terracing. Some bloke had rubbed it all over his face and looked like a black & white minstrel (Google it kids). I always wondered how the hell he got that shit off.

Went to both aways in 91 and 92. Seem to remember the dingles burning a Blackpool scarf that had been tied to the fencing that separated us and them. That stand didn't half have good acoustics. Good times, even the one we lost 2-0. I'd never seen an away following from us that was so big.

I was there in 1991, it was certainly the biggest away following I'd witnessed as a Pool fan. The away end was packed with 4/5,000 and around another 1,000 in the seats to the right. I remember a large group of around 100 Pool lads arriving late in the seated area. These were no doubt the lads who kicked their way in.

Some great memories at the Turf. I was at the 96 game and happened to be sat next to pool players not in the squad. Rick Holden and Steve Banks among them. They joined in the chanting and seemed to enjoy it.

I didn't go in 1991 but went in 1992 and remember Bamber scoring the equaliser. I have just checked and the crowd in 1991 was 18,398 and 18,215 in 92 but i think i remember being told quite a few got in for "free" in 91!

I also remember a game over the Christmas period in 1976 I think 0-0.Bloody cold and was even colder on the way home as I went on the back of my mate's motorbike.

Been a few times over the years , seen Pool win ,Lose & drawn in that time. There was always a feeling of menace and like its going to kick off any minute.

I travelled over midweek. Had to pay a orc a fiver to get 4.

Spot on with that memory. I remember looking on in amazement as a Blackpool face walked into their stand along side us on his jack jones- piped up with some chant - and the next thing he disappeared into the baying mob and his scarf was set on fire and launched onto the wire meshing in between. A vivid memory - he must have been off his rocker.

My first recollection of Turf Moor was going to a Lancs Cup game in 84/5,we lost 1-0 I think. But I remember thinking what a fantastic ground it was for a lower division club and far superior to the normal squalor of that time.

98' I think won 2-1, sat in Burnley end in tangerine jacket, they loved me. (not)

Oooh Andy Garner tearing a strip off them down the wing when we won 5-2 at Bloomers
Weird one this, loved Andy Garner to bits, but for most of his time at Blackpool he gave the impression he was running in treacle?! Steve Davis made him look seriously rapid this game😂

The Burnley Suicide Squad turned up at The Hop Inn after we'd beaten them 5-2. They told the lad on the door (Des RIP) who they were and he said if you want to come in here, go ahead you'll be living up to your name !!. They actually didn't get a chance, the pub emptied and they were dispatched in the direction of North Station in no time.

Was there that day, it turned out that it was that cold most of the pitch was frozen but by the time they realised how bad it was there were 28,000 in the ground, and decided to play it, seemed to be about 9-10,000 pool fans in, ended up 0 -0, and as I remember an absolute dire match but a great derby day atmosphere!

Late December 1971, lost! after the game the usual squaring up to each other across the main road outside the ground, when my mate shouted ‘Lets run ‘em‘ to which we did, scuffles then ensued, my mate his brother and me got lifted by the cops. Had to appear in court the following Monday, where the arresting cop said my mate was heard to have shouted ‘Let’s run em’ In the box we all testified he’d said ‘Let’s run past them’! and got off with it!! 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah we were in the Bob Lord aswell...we jumped up when we scored and I feared the wost BUT there were plenty of Pool in there

First away game was a night match in early 70's. My best mate's dad took us and we could have only been 7 or 8 years old. Haven't got a scooby about the score but we got a KFC :) on the way back.

I don't remember much of the games, last one I remember much of was the 3-0 and "who put the ball in the Burnley net, half of ** Blackpool."

I'm just going to put this notable mention here in the pre season game only last season, they chanted "you're going down with the bastards"

To which an instant reply came (then followed by laughter) of "you're going down on your sister"
