Moxon

anything more than 350k for a lad who has never stepped foot out of L2 is madness.

By their definition Kenny Dougall (hundreds of Championship games and 2 goals in L1 play off final) must be worth £5m
It feels like there is a premium on this lad because he is from Cumbria and pretty much dragged them up via the play offs. The only 2 valuations that matter are Carlisle and ours. I suspect this one has run its course but as others have said, this could just be a negotiation tactic. Time will tell...

I doubt we were ever truly in - we're well stocked in CM
I suspect it was a move to cover the transfer of Virtue. It still wouldn't surprise me if we went back in for him, ultimately money talks and if the lad doesn't sign that extension, I'm certain they wouldn't want to lose him for nothing.

Nothing like the Brannigan situation, we keep Virtue and we have a very decent midfield for this season. Spend the money on a big striker although I think our front 2 will be Lavery and Joseph which I'm very happy about. Get Gaz fully fit and sign him for the rest of the season and keep some funds in reserve. A couple of top loans will do just fine.
I think you have to let go of Madine. He'll have been out 8/9 months assuming no set backs and then he's got to get match fit. He won't be of any use until February at the earliest, possibly even March/April.

Agree about another striker. An injury to Lav or KayJay and where are the goals coming from? Not to mention the style of play change that may be needed.

Depends how we play. If it’s one central striker with wide players then we’re probably covered through the middle with Joseph, Lavery and Beesley and wide players are needed. Between the three of them we could be looking at 25+ goals from that position overall.

If it’s 2 up top then I agree. Joseph and Lav could start together but they both seem better at running behind than hold/build up play so another would benefit us.

Maybe it's me, maybe the lad will sign, but this sounds very much like the door to signing this lad may just be opening. I've said all along, if he doesn't extend his current deal, no way will their holding company want to lose out on £500K.

That is a softening the fan base up for his departure type statement. It's the classic, we tried everything to keep him but he'd made his mind up and there was nothing we could do about it.

If this one happens, I dont think it will be until the end of transfer window. Probably the last few days of it. Might even be on that we go back to in January if he doesn't sign a new contract. I get the feeling that Carlisle are doing everything they can to keep the fans onside and they would not be happy about him going.

We've been in their position many times; similar to losing Yates and Bowler recently. As much as we didn't want to lose them, it was clear they wanted to move. It just looks like a face saving exercise to me...

I agree, but the only difference is that they both went to high divisions. I was reading their forum the other day and their fans would be happy for him to go to a Champions club but furious if they sell to another league 1 club. I agree about the face saving exercise, I just think they will hold out as long as they can to keep the fans buying season tickets and shirts for as long as possible.

Ultimately, I'd be very surprised if we couldn't offer him more money than Carlisle are doing. Especially with the Yates money coming in. And that often makes the difference these days. Not to mention the fact that we are far more likely to give him a shot at championship football after this season if he joined us.

One poster on their fans page reckons we had a £400k bid accepted, although to a man they think he could do better than us. I think we could get this done and the fact that we are still in with a chance would explain why the Banks transfer has taken so long.

That interview is anything but reassuring. So close to the season you want to see enthusiasm and excitement from a player, his body language was the language of someone who doesn’t want to be there.

Could all just be negotiation tactics, but if he loves the club like they say he does and they’ve offered him a new contract, surely he would have signed it by now? Carlisle announce a new deal has been offered last week and been crickets since.

The fact that they’ve said they can’t do anything more indicates that the player isn’t all in on staying like some think.

This one could have legs yet.

But Carlisle did say in their first statement that he’s not for sale so they really are in a Catch 22 situation if Moxon doesn’t sign; do they let him run down his contract and lose him for nothing, or sell him and look like fools?

I'll go with the fools option 👍

All starting to be a little bit late for my liking ... dangerous game by Carlisle as a bad injury in that opening game and there's £400k down the drain!

I sincerely hope that this isn't an either/or situation. We need a striker that's a priority and Banks fits that role well. Moxon by all accounts would be a very good acquisition but he's a midfielder, and we've got plenty of midfielders in the squad.

With Virtue likely to head out and who knows if Trybull is going to stick around, I'd say we do need a midfielder. Critchley has already said he expects his squad to look very different by the close of the window.

It’s the bowler situation 12 months ago, reversed.
If he doesn’t sign the new contract, then he will most surely go during this transfer window. Whether it’s to us or not, who knows.
It’s good to see we are after these type of players but at some point we can’t pussyfoot around - we need to ACT.
We made mistakes over the last two seasons with the way we’ve recruited. Let’s not do the same.

Maybe they need to line up his replacement? Like KJ for JY

In his latest interview with Andy Bayes, Radio Lancs.
That seems somewhat different to what he said to the Gazette:

“We’re still looking,” Critchley stated.
“I’d be surprised if the squad was still the same as it is right now in four weeks.
“We’re still hopeful of doing some work between now and the end of August.
“The squad is still healthy, but we’re probably still light in a couple of areas of the pitch- we’re working tirelessly to improve that, but we only want to bring in players that will add to the quality of the squad.”

So some work and players needed in a couple of areas, but not massive changes.

Interesting that Simmo is publicly stating something like this, seems a huge admission to make.

If the player’s head has been turned that surely means we’re offering more money than Carlisle.

Need to keep the pressure up on this one as it seems like the player could be keen on leaving.
Puts pressure on the lad to stay, he's a Carlisle fan and so are his family. Simmo stating this publicly is taking pressure off the club and putting it all in Moxon.

Maybe he's had his head turned because he now sees that Carlisle won't sell him for what he's realistically worth and want silly money for him. He's had 1 good season in League 2 realistically, so why would anyone pay above 500k for him? If he has ambition of playing at a higher level then being at a club that over prices him is detrimental to his career as he could end up stuck there for 2/3 more years if he signs a new contract instead of pushing up the leagues. £1m gets you a proven League 1 player right now, and he's no where near proven. We have also proven that we won't stand in players ways and want realistic prices eg with Yates and Bowler.
