My Grandpa

I dont think many people on here will have known my Grandpa. Peter Gudgeon died on Saturday aged 99. He had been a season ticket holder for decades (not in the boycott era of course). He died on Saturday aged 99. He saw his first game just after the war and had the honour of seeing Stanley Matthews and all the other Blackpool legends throughout the years. He was a director for a brief period in the late 80s and he had a genuine love for the club. He took my mum @TotallyTangerine to the games from a young age and inspired a love for the club which I am sure will last for many generations ! I would just like to take this opportunity to honour him and lets hope the boys get the three points for him tomorrow.

I honestly didn’t think we had anyone older than Dave Pickering supporting the club (apologies Dave) 🥰

RIP Peter and my condolences to you and your family.

I hope my grandchildren write a eulogy half as good as that when I'm gone 👏
As a 53 year old approaching middle age same here, hopefully it'll include our upcoming boing boing Champ to Prem years and our incredible run in Europe via the fair play.

Great innings - RIP.

RIP Peter, a great innings and just a shame you couldn't manage one more.

As a youngster of 76, I was lucky enough to see some of the great players in the early fifties and can understand how he was hooked for life.

My sincere condolences to all his family.

R.I.P. Peter.
One thing I wonder is 'Why didn't he go during the war?'
I'm 88 and saw a few games in the War time., and after.
Pity I never met your Grandad, we could have had some nice conversations.
Was he Blackpool born?

Hi Dave
I think he joined the Navy in 42 so not sure how many opportunities he would have had. He was born in Kendal and never actually lived in Blackpool. But I was told today that back in those days we had a big following from Morecambe and Lancaster which is where he lived most of his life.

He actually went to watch the scum on the Saturdays when we were playing away, but he told me he gradually started to love us and hate them.

Yes it is a pity, Im sure there would have been some lovely stories exchanged.

maxnix, Where did he go to Naval School?
My Bro joined the navy in 1949, went to Shotley, I think.
Had a few ships but left in '60s.
