I’ve been told I should start a new thread so here we are.

It was announced in the House of Commons that Nigel had received close to £550k from the Kremlin backed Russia Today.

Suddenly Nigel’s bank accounts are being closed.

Is there a connection?

I dunno but Nigel is very cross and may be leaving the U.K. as a result.

It's about eight different banks isn't it? Ugly words like "money" and "laundering" are being bandied about as well. I'm sure there can't be anything it.

Where's he gonna go, won't get automatic residency in Germany even through marriage. The rest of the EU is unavailable for some odd reason. Australia, New Zealand won't qualify, US might get an opportunity with a media sponsored visa I suppose, but he's hardly a draw over there. Russia, belorus, or the middle east.

Personally I blame the laws on immigration in these countries.

How can he not be welcomed when he’s in need?

Ungrateful bastards.

Finally some good news.

Nigel has a German passport to get round Brexit restrictions so will get by.

Not surprised by this at all.
There needs to be a proper public enquiry to the extent of Russian interference in our political system. It really stinks and is a matter of great public interest - it has the potential to be the biggest scandal of our political lives. Traitors in our midst selling their country to our enemies.
Loving Farage claiming that he is a victim of the blob. By all accounts he banked at Coutts just like a man of the people would.

Belorussia, what a good idea! He could hook up with Prigozhin and drink some beers.

Coutts?

I did wonder.

Weren’t they the Queens Bank?

Ergo anyone who attacks Coutts, by definition must be attacking our late and beloved Queen Elizabeth II.

Shame.

I’m not a violent man, but I would gladly punch odious little farage all the way to Ulaanbaatar if I had a big enough fist.

Some bitter posts on this thread.

This is very concerning that banks can just collectively get rid of someone without explanation and with no evidence of anything.

It could happen to anyone.

It's very dangerous and akin to somewhere like China.

Go against the government narrative enough and this is a potential tool they can use and has happened to quite a few people it seems.

Another reason a cashless society is a terrible idea.

Take an alternative view about covid for e.g. we've already seen the government used a shady military unit to monitor people who did that. Go against the trans narrative maybe...

This isn't about which side of politics people fall on, this should be condemned.

Quelle surprise that people's entrenched bias has got in the way of that on here.

He's a right wing politician defined by one policy only. A policy which our (right wing) Government of thirteen years standing has implemented on his behalf (as he proved incapable of winning a UK Parliamentary election anywhere).

You really should try reading beyond the Telegraph and the Daily Heil. You could learn, for example, about some of the more dodgy company that he, Johnson Trump and others have been allegedly keeping over many years. There are two sides to every story. You don't have to lap up his.

This is a very slippery road. I agree totally with this. If you can lose your bank account because you've supported a non Woke or PC cause this is akin to communism. I would be careful what you say about Farage. The person who accused him used Parliament privilege. If they had said it outside, they would have been sued for libel.

He hasn't lost his account because he's supported a non woke cause (whatever that means). It's because he's taken over half a million from Russians to subvert our elections.

Russians, that lot who invaded Ukraine.

That's a far more slippery slope.

😂 There’s zero evidence of banks collectively taking against an individual.

While no one outside the bank, including Farage, knows what’s actually happened I’ve told you the most likely scenario.

It was alleged in the House of Commons that Farage had accepted money from the Kremlin via Russia Today.

If a bank, lawyer, accountant has a suspicion (they don’t need to know it) they commit a criminal offence if they don’t report the suspicion to the National Crime Agency. When you report you can also ask for consent to carry on as normal. If consent is refused then you can’t.

You also can’t tell the customer that you’ve reported them to the NCA. That would be tipping off and also a criminal offence.

So what I suspect has happened is the bank has submitted a suspicious activity report to the NCA off the back of the comments in the HoC and have been refused consent.

So they have to close the account. But can’t tell Farage the reason why.

The idea that bankers have got together and decided to freeze Farage out is nonsensical.

But it’s a great conspiracy theory I agree.

I think that is totally incorrect. You need to be careful making that statement, unless you have evidence, it is extremely libelous.

Chris Bryant can say what the fuck he wants in the Commons protected by Parliamentary privilege. It can be slanderous but he can still say it. It does not mean it’s true,

Meanwhile Yorkshire Bank have closed the accounts of customers who complained about the bank’s financial support of Pride events. Make your mind up over which agenda had taken over and act accordingly.

Yeah nothing to see here I'm sure 🙄

Has anything been proven yet? So mps can comment whether true or not and suddenly you're shit out of luck...

It's been happening to more than just NF if people open their eyes.

When people go against the narrative the state or corporations are increasingly able to cut them off.

Off course many people on the left see no issue 🙄

It's a very dangerous game and we saw it with covid.

Finally some good news.

Nigel has a German passport to get round Brexit restrictions so will get by.
I thought he claimed he didn't have right of residency in Germany in a. Interview prior to Brexit and an interviewer was mocking his claim of UK not being able to make it's own immigration laws based on Germany not granting him full residency.

He's a right wing politician defined by one policy only. A policy which our (right wing) Government of thirteen years standing has implemented on his behalf (as he proved incapable of winning a UK Parliamentary election anywhere).

There's nothing wrong with being left or right. Just because he's right wing doesn't mean he should be shut down. If he has acted improperly then let's see the evidence.

A hell of a lot of the country agree with him and we have been far too soft for too long, infact we are a bit of joke when it comes to immigration. There's nothing controversial about wanting to control the borders, the majority of people agree.

I don't really read the telegraph tbh only used it as an example article, I care not the source, within reason.

As you say there are 2 sides to everything, some were called lunatics for questioning things in th covid narrative that now have been proven.

It's about the bigger picture than NF, it's a dangerous path we're taking.

If people think governments and corporations won't use or abuse power they have, then think again.

As said it could be anything, from questioning lockdown, the ever more ridiculous gender narrative maybe. Speaking against it could result in serious consequences.

The illusion of free speech is showing more and more. It's increasingly a threat to toe the narrative or else.

From the above very good article.

"The digitalisation of our speech has resulted in a small number of social media companies holding the keys to the modern public square. This has meant that the digitalisation of our financial transactions results in a number of centralised corporations having control over some of the core means by which we exchange capital. Consequently, a vast amount of power is placed in the hands of those corporations as well as governments who may lean on them to act in a way that is beneficial to state interests. The threat that these powers may exercise the levers of financial censorship to completely cut off and shut up groups, organisations, and people, is real."

I've had it happen three times where banks have either dropped me individually or my companies for commercial reasons. Citibank dropped around 1 million customers across Europe around a decade ago many who had been banking with them for decades. It's the modern retail banking system. He was an mep when this issue was raised in the euro parliament because it had become common practice for banks across Europe to force customers to close accounts if they were not profitable for the bank. He could have got involved back then but he very rarely voted on bills or issues in the EP, or even attend sessions. Karma's a bit h ain't it.

Well so far today I’ve watched the BBC 6pm news and currently watching the 10pm news and nothing at all on this storey on Nigel Farage.
Seems a bit like the Joey Barton thread in that he was going down for assault on that Kraut. 🤣

That’s all well and good but the AML laws have been around for a long time now. They haven’t just been invented to target NF or RWNJs.

To repeat - if your lawyer/accountant/bank know or SUSPECT that you’re handling the proceeds of crime they HAVE to report you to the NCA. If they don’t they are committing a criminal offence.

The biggie there is ….. if they suspect.

What amounts a suspicion?

The case law doesn’t help much. It just says it has to be more than “a vague unease”.

I was my firm’s MLRO and had these decisions to make all the time.

Clients come in. Some you instinctively feel are “wrong uns”. Do you report them? What would you say in your report? Dodgy as fuck? Knowing if you get it wrong you’re in the firing line and could have your career ruined. It’s a difficult call.

The Bank know a comment has been made in the HoC. Is that sufficient to give rise to a suspicion? If it is that means you have to make a report.

Safety suggests you do it. And ask for consent to act. The decision is then made by the National Crime Agency.

I have no idea whether this is what has happened although it seems to me to be the most likely scenario and NF himself has suggested it might be the case.

That’s a long way from the “the banks are out to get you” conspiracy theory that’s being promoted at the moment.

As for where Chris Bryant got his info from to make the statement in the HoC?….Well we can all speculate about that. Made up? Supplied by MI5? Who knows?

There's nothing wrong with being left or right. Just because he's right wing doesn't mean he should be shut down. If he has acted improperly then let's see the evidence.
The point I was making is that he has been broadly speaking on the same side as the "Establishment" since 2016. Trying to portray him as some kind of persecuted martyr really won't wash.

The explanation that Mex as provided for what is happening seems very plausible, given the statements made in Parliament under the cloak of privilege. The man keeps some very whiffy company, and has done so for years.

No. I doubt it. And I was closer to it than you in a previous life.

But every time an individual usually slightly left leaning raises the issue of concentrated wealth, power, financial power or influence the general response from the likes of farage is market forces will prevail. Fox news has been distorting the news in the US for since before Reagan was in power, the Murdoch papers in the UK have had a similar effect on British politics, the digitisation and more importantly privatisation of news has expanded the nutjobbery across all media in pursuit of viewers and revenue. The concentration in the banking sector was being talked about in the early nineties but . . . Market forces.

Farage has been on a bit of a tour talking about NHS privatisation. No doubt it will be a conspiracy when he can't get his ingrown toenails fixed under the NHS in his dotage.

Everyone keeps saying a he'll of a lot of people agree with him. Why is it, every time he stands in an election he loses his deposit despite being shoe horned into constituencies allegedly supportive?

Who knows, but if an mp protected by parliamentary privilege puts out a statement that could be true, it could be false, suddenly your bank accounts are taken away, it's a bit shady.

As said I was making a wider point about this is happening more and more and people are getting cancelled for going against the narrative.

Well they have made a pigs ear of brexit and controlling immigration. So although they recite some of what he says, they don't really make it happen.

Maybe hes right, but that opens the door to being able to shut down an opposition or someone speaking against you with a comment in Parliament.

If he has genuinely done something wrong then it'll be proven but the alleged wrongdoing happened ages ago didn't it and nothing came of it then.

The establishment tried the same with Trump didn't it and nothing was ever proven there was it?

As said the wider point of the increasing power the state and corporations hold over our speech is concerning, cutting off what should be a basic human right is wrong.

Banks willing to refuse custom for not following their values for e.g. it's all getting a bit ridiculous and it's happening more and more.

People have mentioned the cashless society and its easy to see why theres cause for concern, all heading a bit orwellian.

Everyone keeps saying a he'll of a lot of people agree with him. Why is it, every time he stands in an election he loses his deposit despite being shoe horned into constituencies allegedly supportive?
They do, doesn't mean he is universally loved by all, he's marmite. Whenever he stands there a concerted effort against him from the establishment.

It's not like the election system is fair, one of the biggest injustices was his ukip party, whether you like them or not, getting 4 million votes and 1 mp.

Whichever side of the divide that happened on, it's got to be wrong and shows a broken political system.

Does Farage post on here, or just his lackeys?

No Wiz, this thread is specifically for all the AVFTTer's out there who are still unwilling to accept the result of the EU referendum and the part that Nigel Farage, one of the most influential figures in British politics in the 21st century - if not the most influential ? - played in that democratic referendum.

Claiming that Coutts is woke is hilarious. They've been fined millions for Jho Law and the Malaysian scandal... Panama papers..the list goes on. If they're dropping Nigel it's a calculation that he's involved in something risky, and certainly not a sudden bout of conscience.

It’s a bit rich for banks to close accounts if they think there’s Russian money involved, they’ve been washing oligarchs dirty cash for years and probably still are. Maybe they should be shut down.

And the flip side is rich and powerful people using the defamation laws to stifle any criticism of them.

A Blackpool fan shouldn’t really need to be reminded about the dangers of that.

It’s in the news currently because Farage has been complaining about having his bank account closed.

Obviously it’s newsworthy and worth discussing for that reason alone.

Some people really struggle with the concept of free speech and what we can, and can’t, discuss.

I'm not sure what you are trying to tell me there Mex and why ?

I was just explaining to Wiz why I thought Farage losing his bank account was being discussed, you don't have to agree with anything that I said but for some reason you felt the need to educate me on free speech.

No big problem but just thought it was a little strange.
