New manager

In naming Sheffield Wednesday you’ve hit the nail on the head. A club who think they’re better than they are. It’s taken them years and umpteen managers to finally make an impression. In League One we’ll be playing there because that’s where this season’s bloody awful football and pathetic management has led us. We’re the same as everyone else in that division.
So assuming we do get relegated and Leyton Orient get promoted why will the bookies have us at shorter odds to be promoted?

Even before Critchley walked through the door I was calling for the appointment of Mark Robbins.
At the time Coventry were in a bit of a dilemma with the ground (again!!)
We saw yesterday how he gets his teams playing. Attractive, possession football at pace. With most of that Coventry team extremely confident and competent on the ball

Not sure I'd be taking a punt on someone like Charlie with no experience, although they've got to start somewhere I suppose, I'd just rather it not be with us.
Paul Simpson would be a decent shout if Carlisle don't get promoted and we are in League 1.
Stating the bloody obvious but I'm sure what league were in will dictate who we get as manager.

And he puts 2 players on the halfway line when they concede a corner. They scored off one such instance v us last season.
They are the only team that do it. All of a sudden the attacking team has to bring back 2/3 players, add the keeper and the one taking the corner and its 8 defenders and a keeper v 6 forwards in the box.
It's simple but no other manager wants to seem to do it.

I’m not sure they necessarily will. Leyton Orient will have upward momentum while we’ve come the other way. More clubs linger in the division than those going straight back up - Ipswich, Portsmouth, Charlton, Barnsley to name just a few.

We are not the pull you might imagine we are - and as others have said I can’t see us paying any club compensation because we just don’t have the cash.

I've said that too. He would be my choice but there's no way he'd leave Cov for us. Unless they have financial issues of course.

Yes please push the boat and bring in Robbins. He is the right man for us 100%

I will dye my hair tangerine and then shave it if we managed to appoint Mark Robins.

His profile is too high to drop down, even if Coventry is in a pickle right now.

His next move will be to a top half Championship team.
Would be a great statement of intent if we were able to bring him in though

Yeah it's a long shot but stranger things have happened.

His old recruitment team are already in the building..could be a sign.

I’d be looking for better than Wellens to be honest - and I’m sure the Coventry lads are too.
That’s very arrogant. Next season we’ll be in the same division, how does that make us a bigger club? And we’ve no significant money, a crap training ground - so how have we more potential?
This is the kind of thinking that sets us back and frankly it’s an effort to reply to this but I’ll simplify it for you.

1. Being in the same division doesn’t make all clubs in it equal. If it did we’d be much better off right now.
2. No significant money ??? Are you sure ?? If we’re in League One, we’ll be one of the better wage payers, Leyton Orient won’t be.
3. The training ground is massively improved, it really won’t put players off signing.
4. If you think that there isn’t more potential
at Blackpool FC than there is at Leyton Orient then I genuinely don’t think you should bother anymore.

Blimey that was tough

Thierry Henry is looking to get back into management. A bit of a wildcard but he certainly knows the game, is passionate and would definitely help when trying to convince players to come!

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank has done pretty well but seems like he might be joining the England set up.

There's no chance whatsoever of getting Robins or Evatt at the moment. Of the other suggestions, I'd sooner have someone we've never heard of and tbh I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Another U-23 prem coach like Critchley was.
I hope the board are casting their net a bit wider than Wellens and Simmo - there are talented people out there doing great jobs that aren't ex players or ex managers.

The ex player thing is a red herring with Wellens, he has not exactly been a fan favourite anyway. His managerial record & style of football would put him in contention regardless of whether he played for us or not.

Read it on here.

Unless we get fresh investment I honestly don’t think we do have the money TWP. We’re cutting back on plans for the new training ground and - by some accounts - couldn’t meet Coby Bishop’s pay demands. So much so that he chose a team a division below us. We’ve also failed in at least two transfer windows to prise Brannagan away from a 3rd division club.

I suspect much of us not being able to attract may have been a result of management not being able to ‘sell’ the club to prospective new signings, which makes it vital that the new appointment is able to do that. I do understand what you are saying, we should have more potential than many of the teams we will probably be joining next season, but so much has to change before that happens. At the moment we’ll be on a par with a lot of them.

…. And I’ll always be bothered.

Some of these fantasies are great. 😏
'I've heard 'so and so' was mentioned.' ;'I've heard a rumour that so-and-so has been approached'. etc etc.
No real facts, just supposition and peoples' own thoughts.
I think I'll wait until reality dawns.

No one, not even Wenger can work miracles on our current budget.
My difficulty with Charlie or any another legend = if it all goes wrong, some supporters will turn & his status falls.
Before anyone says "no they won't", just take Josh as an example & the way some on AVFTT have (IMO unfairly) slated him!
Let's just hope the board make an early appointment, get it right, & give him an appropriate budget.
UTMP

I don’t think the budget is as much issue as people make out. Critchley seemed to manage it with a worse squad. A decent manager this season we’d of stayed up.

I see silly season raises it’s head once again as soon as a post about management appears.
It is incredible how a person with little or no proven record in management would make an ideal person for the job because he is an ex player. Some people really do need to get a grip on reality.
I’ll tell you what, whilst we are on the subject I will stick in my suggestion of Ian Chisnall and Brett Ormerod.
They have fuck all managerial experience but know each other inside out so how about them being our “dream team.”
In never fact they would probably do a better job than some of those mentioned above.

I echo your gut feeling and would put a tenner on it...
It was posted several weeks ago (possibly Scrafters), that the Board had identified who they wanted. This was at the time Quitchley was in the QPR position, so highly unlikely its him, unless they have changed their collective mind.

I assure thee Orient are a highly talented team and will be looking for the play offs in L1

They have a winger called Archibald and he’s better than Bowler and easily good enough for the Championship.

We’ll end has got them playing well this season
