Norcross Roundabout

Seemed to have changed the timing on lights, absolute carnage yesterday where all appeared to be green at one point. Literally cars going all directions with lights flashing green then red in seconds. Though there was a method to them until this week where it just looks like it’s a chimp pressing stop and go watching a massive screen

Crazy at the moment on there I try and avoid it. Particularly when you get a load of cars grouped in the middle of the roundabout.
Wonder if authorities are keeping tabs on the number of collisions that occur on it. Mayhem.

That roundabout has been awful since the day it opened. Designed by Stevie Wonder and built by Ray Charles. Apparently there are regular accidents happening. I've witnessed 3 since it opened and I was nearly wiped out on my motorbike by a van wrongly changing lanes last summer. Only a couple of days ago I saw a bus in the wrong lane nearly go in to a car. If I'm on two wheels I avoid it at all costs and end up going the long way round.

There seemed to be a crash on it just before 9 this morning.

The traffic lights have been dreadfully out of sequence for a few weeks now and it causes chaos.

Traffic coming out of Norcross should get a green light for Thornton but get an immediate red light which backs up and the lights change meaning that traffic to Amounderness Way towards Fleetwood is blocked and similarly with the traffic going in the opposite direction from Amounderness away meets a red light from Thornton when it should be green!

Ive never known a roundabout like the Norcross roundabout take so long to build.
It took ages!

And having traffic lights at most roundabouts are just time consuming and pointless.

If they must continue to use traffic lights at Walburgas and Norcross roundabouts, then at least turn them off between 7pm-7am.

Far better before they messed with it! Lights on every junction apart from the road coming from Carleton?
I’ve seen so many near misses on there. Designed by absolute turnips!

Most confusing roundabout ever which of the three lanes to get into when cars are covering the arrows which way to go.

Also Bispham road/Warbeck hill junction 4 way traffic lights because of gas works is bloody causing chaos around that end of town.

Went round it today at 12.30 going to Poulton via Carleton, I had no problems, but the queue the other way was backed up to the lights at Castle gardens. The lady I went to see said she lives in Carleton, and it’s pretty regular.

On the same roundabout topic, the Morrisons roundabout at Cleveleys is an absolute nightmare to negotiate,

Not been round the Norcross one for a while as the first & last time I used it since it was supposedly improved, was a absolute nightmare & I thought I knew where I was going. Some dick probably had a computer simulation of it all running smoothly. To be safe & do what they are supposed to do roundabouts should be simple to navigate. Every new one seems to be worse & far too complicated.

I’m never in favour of traffic lights and too many lanes on a roundabout.
What’s particularly galling about this clusterfcuk of traffic planning is that they used a fund designed for easing traffic congestion to make things worse and x100 more dangerous.
Could have used that money towards a much needed extra lane towards the new cráp bypass.

Went through it on Wed, going to Morrisons (from PLF)
What TF are they playing at?
Go there regularly but this week was bad.

Been like it for a few weeks. They've proper balled it up. I heard someone saying it's to stop people speeding through it coming from Skippool and from the Morrisons way. It's just caused chaos, especially coming through Carleton from the Castle Gardens. Constant queues now.

The whole thing is a complete mess. My missus had her car written off on it a couple of years ago due to some dick wipe going through a red and hitting her at speed as she was setting off. I think there is a crash on it every day.

There should not be lights on roundabouts full stop.

Roundabouts are so clever in terms of traffic flow. If people can’t use them they really ought not be driving

To be fair it's hardly the most straight forward of roundabouts. Coming off Norcross people seem to not have a clue what lane to go in to when wanting to go Amounderness Way heading towards Singleton. Seen all kinds of road rage going on. There really must have been a simpler option.

It’s many exits for sure but I don’t remember it being as bad as now in the days of no traffic lights?

When I go in asda/Morrisons and witness poeple unable to reverse park i’m not surprised people struggle with a complicated roundabout..🤣

It took about 2 years to construct Norcross roundabout.
Scandalouus.

If they must use traffic lights, then they should turn them off between 7.00pm - 7.30 a.m

A big safety improvement has been made for pedestrians due to the introduction of pedestrian crossings.

But the roundabout is relatively complex thus confuses people. They seem to develop a brain fog as they approach it, then go into panic mode at the last second, and point their vehicle in whatever direction they need to go.

There’s two noticeably particular dangerous aspects to the roundabout.

1. When travelling on amounderness way approaching from the river wyre pub, there’s 3 lanes to choose from. The left and the middle both are for traffic carrying straight on towards Morrison’s.
But the left lane is also for bearing left towards Norcross main gate. I’ve seen several accidents, and have also been wiped out twice by cars in the middle lane veering across the left lane and heading towards Norcross. Therefore if you’re going to go straight towards Morrison’s it’s safer to get in the middle lane.

2. When driving from Morrison’s towards the River Wyre, on approach to the roundabout you see there’s two lanes to go straight on. The 2nd lane is shared by those turning right towards Carleton. However those in the middle lane wanting to go straight, tend to increase their speed quickly to try and overtake vehicles in the inside lane. But just as they’re accelerating they often have to suddenly slam on the brakes as vehicles turning right to Carleton face a red light and tend to back up into the middle lane. So it sets drivers up to fail. It’s stupid and dangerous.

Same for cars going from Carleton to Thornton. Can end up in a situation blocking cars speeding towards Morrisons in the outside lane. That all said, I've just done it in double quick time. Before the lights, that queue from the Castle Gardens could take ages at rush hour. Straight down and through tonight.

Another roundabout with traffic lights and crossings for the list: St Walburgas / Bispham Rd.
Never used to be any problems, now massive queues at rush hour.
Don’t suppose anyone will offer any justification for these ongoing cöck ups?
I mentioned above that this Walburgas roundabout has become another pain because of the traffic lights.
Another roundabout whose traffic lights should be turned off.
A year or two ago these traffic lights were switched off (out of order) and the traffic ran smoothly, just like it always used to.

It's madness introducing these traffic lights, where they're not necessary.
Weren't roundabouts introduced to alleviate the need for traffic lights, in the first place??

The same happened to a friend last year. A lorry jumped the red light and carry the car off in Norbreck direction when the friend was going in the direction of Morrisons. Car written off.

The justification for Plymouth Road roundabout (Crossley’s bridge) having lights, according to the council, was for pedestrian safety.
I can understand that, what with the amount of traffic nowadays, but at least make it pedestrian activated, I.e. keep all lights on green until a pedestrian comes along to cross.

There’s no excuse really for why pedestrians would need to cross over the middle of a roundabout.
If you’re going to put up a crossing, do it separately and a safe distance from the traffic negotiating the junction.

Ive never seen any pedestrians near that roundabout. They are major roads nowhere near any housing.
I have though. I drive through that roundabout regularly during daytime. There’s pedestrians now and again going from Thornton to carleton etc.
It’s a wide road and cars go through at high speed. The pedestrian crossings are essential for safety.
There’s housing all the way along Fleetwood Road South. Immediately adjacent to pedestrian crossings.

They should improve it with separate roads foe each direction, should be easy enough.

Agree.
With the Norcross roundabout the lights help traffic get their fair turn during busy periods. Prior the roundabout being modernised there were long tail backs down Fleetwood Road South for traffic trying to get onto Amounderness Way or over towards Carleton.

When leaving the Poulton Rd and turning left for Morrisons, there are 2 lanes at the traffic lights which then goes into one lane.
I'm waiting for an accident there as some drivers MUST go into the outside lane and then cut in front of the left lane.
Idiots.
Better to just have one lane.

I think you'll find the Skipool junction is taking longer. They could've paved the moon in the time that's taking!
