O/T Frasers taking over old Debenhams unit

We certainly will not be shopping there. Their online service is abysmal and their Customer Services is non existent! Check out posts on Trust Pilot! Avoid at all costs!

Regardless of your feelings towards their owner this is fantastic for the town and much needed. There’s virtually no other retailer that could take over that site and make it work other than maybe M&S. Blackpool is dreadful for shopping at present
I agree As I said earlier they are far from my favourite retailer but I think it is just right for Blackpool

Yeah good news for Blackpool and the surrounding areas, who are then more likely to go into town and shop with this there.

That's as bad but the other way, something in the middle like Debenhams oh errr
It's a good and big Primark tbf, a lot better than some towns have. There are some in between places too. Next can be ok, river island etc.

Guess you haven’t been into flannels then. Your monthly wage will buy one item of clothing

Never said I'd be splashing cash left right and centre, I specifically named places in between in the post your replying to, which imo do reasonable items etc.

The same moaning people would have been moaning about Blackpool town centre and how destitute it was when Debenhams jacked in, but now they’ve got a major designer store, they are still moaning.

Miserable people.

You stick to your C & A sweater and Fruit of the Loom polo shirt and let the people who want to spend their hard earned on designer kit do just that 🤩

It’s great for the town 💯

Great news as is civ jobs moving in there.

Think cinema will do well in its location too.
Only issue I have with the cinema is with odeon closing soonish as the lease has not been renewed, locals will have to pay for parking to go to that cinema when its always free elsewhere in other towns etc. It'll do well with its location but that annoys me. Should do some sort of locals deal with houndshill for a number of spaces for it or something.

Yeh, just what we need .
Smack bang in the middle of the most deprived town in Britain 🤣

Lidl by the Bloomfield Pub ain’t bad😉my near to aim parking on match day.

Jokes apart when I grew up in Blackpool people used to come for miles away for the shopping at places like RHO hills especially round Xmas time.
If there is a big mistake the town( councils of whatever political persuasion have made) was not to build a genuine all encompassing shopping centre or at least a good outlet site.
I can be at the Trafford Centre in around 20 minutes or less and Cheshire Oaks in less than an hour…maybe 45 minutes.
Too late I suspect now….instead all there is the large Tescos and whatever as you come in to town and nothing much more than another supermarket around Cherry Tree Road.

Oh and within 2 miles of me at I have large M& S ,Tescos,Sainsburys,JD Sports,Boots , Next and a John Lewis.

instead they built car parks which incidentally I won’t use because they are ridiculously expensive and after my last couple of attempts to park there were fruitless because of the payment systems available.

‘Fantastic’ - doubt it !

I agree but I’ll bet there will be some fucker on here that will find something negative about a disused retail outlet in the centre of the town , finding a new tenant that may facilitate significant economical benefit the town🙄🙄
And 100,000 sq foot of unused retail outlet!! Blooming great for the town

Was in town last nite and went to vintro for first time..very impressed.

That’s part of the point. Change.

If we keep on with the pound shops and the charity shops only we aren’t going to change our image or local economy.

There will be some folk who will drive that extra mile to visit certain shops. There is a Flannels at Preston retail park and my daughter drove specifically to go there last week.

It‘s all good as I see it. Just because we are a deprived area now doesn’t mean we can’t make changes to lift ourselves out of that.

Get what your saying Lala but it's misgovernance of Blackpool Borough Council for the last 30odd years that's got us into this mess in the first place.
They should never had agreed to house the countries drop outs whilst not being able to do it, they shouldn't be building carparks all over the town whilst charging like wounded rhinos and they should never have rested on their laurels thinking that Blackpool was going to be the jolly family holiday destination that it was in the 50's-70's.
They never planned for change, now we're probably rock bottom there's only one way to go but it'll take time.
It took 30 years ish to fuck it all up.
It may take the same to turn it round.

It will take time, agreed. But we have to make a start somewhere 👍

The first thing the council need to do is prioritise getting employees into the town centre that have a decent wage and therefore use existing services. The new DWP offices is a good start but the town needs tens of thousands of those sort of jobs in order to make the town a decent place to be in the day time. The second priority has to be getting the university campus built and repurposing those horrible B&B’s and bedsits into student accommodation. Working people with disposable income and students using pubs, bars and restaurants will have a massive knock on effect. It will drive up standards and make the town a nicer place to be for locals and tourists.
Preston is, sadly to say, a much nicer place to shop and spend time during the day and that’s despite there not being an awful lot there and it generally being a shit hole. Blackpool needs to find a way to at least get on par with our neighbours.

There's a lot happening in the town and the town centre had some decent places, lots of good restaurants, new shop fronts.

Just waiting to see how the green infrastructure is implemented, aka they've been putting trees around the town in easy areas like verges, obviously in town there isn't many quick wins so it needs more costly work. Edward Street had been transformed, ok not at a cheap cost but its miles better.

Be interesting to see how they get more greenery into town.

I think Blackpool town centres alright, Preston's is decent but also has beggars in front of loads of shops.

Once dwp and the uni is there the extra footfall will be enough along with locals and tourists to be a thriving town centre. Blackpool central only adds to that further, plus the cinema etc.

As said above all tatty shop front have or are being replaced, there's tons of new places popping up of a higher quality than previously, tons of good bars, food outlets etc.

It's amazing that Blackpool is still such a crap destination for shopping, still one of the biggest destinations for tourism specially day trippers and one night stays. Because most of the retail is based on cheap as chips crap it means most of the hospitality is as well. I wouldnt surprise me if most short stay visitors spend more getting to Blackpool than in the town.
