I read an article in The Mirror about 3/4 weeks ago.
It was about claiming Marriage Allowance.
I duly followed the steps, Google Marriage Allowance and follow the steps.
Basically, if your Husband/Wife/Partner doesn't pay Income Tax because their income is too low, then he/she can make the claim.
It's easy to fill in on-line.
MrsDP doesn't pay any tax because her pensions are too low, I pay the 20% after allowances.
I, or should I say she, filled the from in. (Actually I did it, as her) 😉 .
Less than 3 weeks later we received a cheque for £900.46p.
You must do it before April to get the full benefit. It took us back to 2015/16 and did each year.
On TV only yesterday they said that there are 2 Million people who haven't changed
DO IT NOW.

I didn't receive any remuneration Dave but I did have my personal tax allowance increased to over 13k basically nicking some of my missus's because she's not working.

This is something that should be automatic rather than an allowance to be claimed. The data is already held by Gov. The claim is current year, and 4 years prior.

That said, unofficial civil partners etc are now saying it should be extended to them. There should be a perk for marriage - stability etc. That said it only really helps retired or where one party works part time.

Dave - I think this is the marriage allowance transfer. You are right in that you can claim back to 2015.
If, as in Mrs P's case, you don't earn your own personal allowance (£12,500),then you can transfer 1250 of it to your other half

NB - if the other half is a 40% tax payer then you can't do it.
Thanks for the reminder Dave - I will have a go for the 19/20 tax year
Will say hello when I'm on my way to my seat tonight

Cheers guys.
If only one person gets the benefit it was worth posting.
Do it now before the next Tax Year.

Wish I had a wife that was a 40% tax payer 🤣

Same here Greeno
I meant that, when I was working I was a 40% tax payer . This meant that Mrs Dave couldn't transfer her allowance even though she was not earning

Agreed Dave an absolute no brainer for anyone eligible. Upto £250 per year and as you say back dated for three years.

EXAMPLE (From the GOV.UK website).
Your income is £11,500 and your Personal Allowance is £12,500, so you don’t pay tax.

Your partner’s income is £20,000 and their Personal Allowance is £12,500, so they pay tax on £7,500 (their ‘taxable income’). This means as a couple you are paying Income Tax on £7,500.

When you claim Marriage Allowance you transfer £1,250 of your Personal Allowance to your partner. Your Personal Allowance becomes £11,250 and your partner gets a ‘tax credit’ on £1,250 of their taxable income.

This means you will now pay tax on £250, but your partner will only pay tax on £6,250. As a couple you benefit, as you are only paying Income Tax on £6,500 rather than £7,500, which saves you £200 in tax.

Thanks for this DP. Just looked into it. Worth mentioning that if the partner paying Income Tax earns more than 50k you're not eligible for the allowance.

Been doing it for years mate, worth about 250 a year but better in our pocket than the governments

Unfortunately, I can't do this as I am paying 40% tax on some income. But transferring some savings to into wife's name can save tax as she has unused allowances

My accountant mentioned this a while back but I dont like to get our marital finances too close-only because of the amount of money I get knocked every year (2k last year the bar stewards).
Would probably have gone for it this year but not sure whats around the corner.
