Off topic - Stay Close (Netflix)

As a precursor to getting jiggy with the wife on NYE, I'll be watching 'Stay Close'.

Set in Blackpool and apparently beautifully shot, dark secrets abound in a seemingly happy middle class family. A Harlem Coben adaptation with James Nesbit as the investigating detective.

Up the Pool.

Managed the first 2 episodes last night….enjoyed it and can’t wait to binge more over the weekend.

I don’t know about you, but knowing all the filming locations well…Blackpool, Formby, Runcorn, Morecambe, Manchester & St Helens, made continuity and bit difficult….eg….in the series, all set in and around the same town…..but in reality, one minute they were driving in Blackpool, then moments later drive over the Runcorn bridge and then arrive in Formby.

Enjoyed it though …thanks for the heads up.

Happy New Year and UTMP

Will be giving this a whirl.

Really enjoyed “The Stranger” he produced on Netflix so this sounds good!

There was another series which was good and the name has escaped me, think a couple of children went missing from a housing estate that was secured with a gate, that was good too and sure Coben was involved with that as well.

I told the wife it was set in Blackpool...and being from the mean streets of Chipping originally I'm not super familiar with the place once I leave the front. I did wonder where the big blue bridge was.

2 episodes in and it is pretty good so far. I've no idea how it will all knit together but there is plenty to keep you guessing.

Just finished it after a weekend binging….excellent right up the the end.

That was called Safe mate - also good 👍

Watched it over the last couple of nights and thought it was good. The Barbie character has more than a bit of Villanelle about her, and that can only be a good thing!!

Watched 6 episodes last night. Compelling viewing. Will finish tonight after the football

Loved Barbie and Ken .. would have suggested a spin off series but .... 🙄

Watched it all with the other half - she really enjoyed it, I found it a bit of a dog’s dinner plot and continuity wise. Also hard to work out if it’s a dark comedy or drama, due to some ridiculous characters in it - think they aim for ‘Killing Eve’ with the couple but they just add farce. Watchable, but not great for me.
The shots of Blackpool will always enhance any series though.

Weird locations as it goes from a scene on Morecambe prom, to Blackpool North prom to the pleasure beach, and then a bridge in Runcorn and various suburban locations in Manchester and Merseyside.

It was bugging me in the first couple of episodes where the bridge was as it seemed to be indicating an entry point into Blackpool, I haven't lived there for a long time but Im sure I hadn't forgotten that bridge. Had to check and it seems the director was trying to create Atlantic city where the book was set.

Finished it last night, really enjoyed it and the serial killer definitely caught me off guard, I thought the cameraman would be too obvious as I thought he was responsible in the early days but I did doubt myself many times about him.

One question though, David was it, was he aware or not about the body in the boot when he put it in the lake?

Ken and Barbie by the way 😂

I won’t be rushing for a night out at vipers anyway.

My mate said he gave up after 15 minutes, said the acting was terrible and James Nesbitt hadn't even appeared at that stage. 🤣

My wife and I both enjoyed it, I understand why it may not be everyone's cup of tea. I was less than impressed with the ending of The Stranger, so was a little concerned it would annoy me but thought it was a good watch.

Coben's books are utter shite anyway.

Binge watching it now. Just started episode five. Crazy with the different backdrops supposed to be the same place. And a woman tries to go missing iand tries to create a new identity in her own town. Not sure about that.

Yeah I said the same today at work. It's just too stupid for me. I haven't rated it

potential SPOILER ALERT

watched the whole lot last night. Enjoyed it but certainly don't understand how a woman can go un-noticed in her own town and I didn't buy into the logic that a serial killer would then not say that they were attacked by the "silly character" at the end and killed him.

Not for me guys, poor series full of stupid unrealistic plots with cringeworthy acting to boot.

I didn't get past episode two.

Harlan Coben is one of my favourite authors. I read 'Stay Close' last year.
I'm currently reading 'Caught'. A bit overloaded with characters at first, but now I'm over half-way through it's beginning to 'gel.
I've read almost all his books.
The Myron Bolitar ones are the best.
P.S. this should be on the Politics etc, off topic forum.,

One thing I found stupid was Nesbitt and Tanya from Eastenders finding all the bodies, surely the area would have been searched many a time and the bunker wasn’t excatly disgusted the hardest.

I did enjoy it though but I’m non the wiser if David put the car in the lake knowing the body was in the boot or not.

Easy to say he attacked and I defended myself - same here

Watched the first episode of Four Lives last night. Really good so far, in a true story about real life murders can be kinda way.
