Our support at home over the last few games has been shite. No support at all. It's better away even though there hadn't been much to shout about.
Which simply goes to show how, the worrying reduction in the level of attendances we're currently seeing at BR, whilst clearly not a reflection of the results we've achieved on our home patch, has to be symptomatic, ironically, of just how desparately poor the quality of football on display at Bloomers has become. Because, in truth, it really has been shocking. As evidenced, particularly in more recent times, and somewhat worryingly, by the booing emanating from the home 'support' at regular intervals, and especially at the sounding of the final whistle.
Talk of qualifying for the play-offs, let alone successfully making our way through them, seems, at best, to be a tad fanciful - or, to adopt a somewhat more realistic appraisal, represents what could be described as nothing more than pure 'pie in the sky.' And yet, to adopt a slightly more positive tone, perhaps my rather bold pronouncements may subsequently prove to have been a little premature. I guess we'll just have to wait and see ...
At present, Blackpool, as a Div 1 team, are doing nothing more than 'treading water'. We've consolidated our place just below the play-off spots, by performing 'competently', and there is no shame in that, given the fluctuating nature of the campaign we've had. But, we must now take stock of our current standing, whilst also then analysing those areas in our current set-up where there is undoubtedly ample scope for change. And, further to that point, I think we are now at the stage where we can safely say the ball is well and truly in Sadler's, and, possibly, Critchley's, court.
Although the 2023/4 campaign still has a little further to run, I think we all know, as things stand, how the season is shaping up, and, as I type, it seems we're almost certain to remain in what I, personally, refer to as 'the quagmire', otherwise known as Div One, for at least another season.
This season, we have been on a huge learning curve and although there have been many highs, and lows, we have encountered along the way, it can only be hoped the team, and whoever is the manager, learns by some of the experiences we have had to endure on this rather eventful journey, and that, hopefully, in future, we avoid the various pitfalls we encountered as the campaign progressed - and continues to progress.
Upwards and onwards
