Anyone else getting a Nathan Delfounseo vibe from him? Another player that has the tactical awareness of a premier league striker, but the finishing of a league 1 striker. I have a feeling the championship is a step too far for him.

No ! He is a good player learning his trade, he will be exactly like the rest of the team who will improve the more games they play !

I see him more as a playmaker than a goal scorer. Of course you want anyone who's gonna be in and around the goal to be able to make the finish when the opportunity arises, but he's done a lot of great work in buildup play and setting up his teammates this season. Not the kind of player I'm gonna judge on goals scored.

I get that and agree, but at the expense of Yates?

We've Lavery,Yates,Madine &TJJ and out of those perm of four strikers I don't think some work as a partnership.
TJJ is different from the other 3.

I think he has good qualities and will turn out to be a real asset given the chance. Young lad plenty to learn and definitely at the right place. He will be rotated along with many others giving him time to reflect on where he needs to improve be coached and come back better . Some fans are far too impatient imho.

What is good training?

Tell me and I'll forget. (try)

Show me and I may remember. (improve)

Involve me and I'll understand. (score)

Think about Ellis Simms last season, it took him a while to get on the score sheet and make his presence felt, but once he got going, he was unstoppable. Give TTJ a chance and I'm sure he will be much the same.

The opposition seem to be targeting him early on in games. Presumably the persistent fouling means he worries them. Part of his learning process is dealing with that

have to say that so far been extremely disappointed with him. He might be technically gifted but he just doesn't offer enough in a game imo. I hope he turns it round and he perhaps just needs a goal to do that. Apart from saturday, I can't even recall him getting in position to have a chance of a goal though. How many shots has he had this season?. Not every loan signing works out, Woodburn and Kemp for example and I fear it may be the same with this lad. Hope he can prove me wrong maybe starting tonight..

He scored 2 on his league debut in the 5-0 win against Wigan

I like him. He drops between the lines and looks for the ball, creating space for other players. Of course he should have done better with a couple of chances but that also applies for the rest of the team.

I haven’t seen another partnership work so far, and he’s been playing in our better performances so he stays in for me.

Technically very good, can see the game and spot a pass, needs time and a goal. I think he will really kick on once he gets a goal.

Pretty sure Nathan Delfouneso had scored in the prem by now and actually scored for us.

TTJ needs a goal to be honest, but an Arsenal player should be doing better than he has so far. Ballard took a while to get to grips with League One mind. So give him a chance.

If Critch has confidence in TJJ being a Championship forward, then he'll get the best out of him - or he'll eventually be on the bench. Saying that, he did miss a clear chance on Saturday and he / we can't afford to miss them too often.
I assume that if TJJ isn't playing on a regular basis, we risk Arsenal recalling him, and that PL clubs often insist on a player getting playing time before agreeing to a loan.

difference for me is that Simms was a grafter whereas i don't think TJJ is. And Simms wasn't afraid to put his foot in. On saturday, TJJ actually pulled his foot out of making a tackle.

the game where he really contributed he was playing a bit deeper behind lavery almost as a very forward midfielder. a lot of the time we seem to be asking him to be a target man.

I recall Simms scoring twice on debut. JJ doesn't look a goalscorer to me, 1 goal every 6 games is his current career ratio.

This is true, I think some people are maybe wanting him to be something he isn't. Teams and formations come together gradually and sometimes individuals don't click until the right combinations are found and have time to develop. I think TJJ is more a provider than a finisher, and maybe he should gravitate to playing a bit deeper and collecting the ball from Kenny and Wintle. He may even score more that way, by taking the pressure off him and allowing him to ghost into the box rather than play more as a frontline forward. It'll come together I think. Hope.

Like any striker he desperately needs goals.

Difference between him and Yates is he’s getting the game time Jerry isn’t.

He’s technically very good. You have to be to be at Arsenal. I am beginning to question whether he has the mentality to be a success though. He doesn’t run as hard, chase down as much, jump as high or fight as much as I personally think he should be doing. I get the feeling he wants too much time and space on the ball and just isn’t quite cut out for the competitiveness of first team football just yet. It’s a trait noticeable in a lot of youngsters who are fresh out of U23 and development leagues and it’s going to be a hell of a learning curve. I sincerely hope the lads up to it though. Based on what I’ve seen so far I’m not so sure. Simms and Ballard looked to bust a gut from day 1.

What, like a forward who scores and creates goals? There's certainly similaries between him and JET who ultimately proved himself to be neither good enough for either Arsenal or us. He certainly needs something to happen to kick start his season . Agoal tonight could go a long way to doing that.

The 'Irish Pest' has all those attributes. Perhaps TJJ needs to learn from him, or his time in the starting 11 may well run out.
Jerry can't be happy and must already be knocking on Critch's door.

Not what we need at the moment offers very little to the team ,in my humble opinion ,we need a big strong centre forward who Yates ,and Lavery can feed off ,because even now we seem to have found a couple of gems going forward on both flanks we aren't strong enough when the crosses come into the box!

Strange that Critch keeps starting him really innit? What IS he thinking?!

Absolutely. He's talked about Madine's influence with the squad in training. Must be that. 🤣
happy to keep going round in circles if you want. You rate TJJ, i don't yet, I rate Madine you, don't and never have. That's football.

I'm giving TJJ a chance, he's a young lad who plays for England U21s and clearly has potential. Madine has done very little in his time at the club. In my opinion. His cameo on Saturday was one of the worst i've ever seen in a tangerine shirt, honestly. I accept he needs game time, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to give him that time, tbh.

I still say he would have slotted that one on one away that TTJ tamely tapped straight at the keeper. I know you don’t agree.

Not won me over yet. Give a sigh when I see hes starting and slightly annoys me when he prancies around like a show pony around the pitch whilst Lavery is like the tasmanian devil getting stuck in BUT I get the sense if he gets just one goal then others may follow rapidly..... I hope.
