How the heck is Denzil this evening and what did he have for tea?

Denzil has been amazing He pulls on his lead a lot less. He sits, he shakes a paw, his recall is very good and he is just so loving.
Sleeps well through the night and naps during the day. We have two 35 mins walk a day and some ball throwing in my garden afterwards and he is just an absolute pleasure. We struck very lucky

He looks a lovely dog, although I'm sure you'd planned on getting 2 bassets a few months ago?

You'll enjoy your walks a lot more when you know him better and trust him enough to let him off his lead on the beach /park. It's great watching them run freely and tiring themselves out.

I did want bassets originally.
The reality was I just bided my time for the right dog to come along who ticked all the right boxes and especially with the right temperament with my granddaughter being here.

I’m sure bassets have that but I was put off by how much they dribble

He sounds and looks wonderful! I’m so glad he’s fitting right in with you all..it’s ace having a cute ‘hairy creature’ in the house, isn’t it.. . a completely different vibe.

He has his own dry food made up from tails.com. I am being very careful about not over feeding due to their potential to put weight on, but I do put a bit of meat in with his food. Just a bit of ham or beef or chicken , not a lot !!

That sounds eminently sensible! It’s so hard though when they look intently at you with big (brown in your case) (amber in mine) eyes, isn’t it. Henry’s getting just a touch porky though so I think I’m going to have to toughen up….

Only gone and got one

I‘ve posted before about considering getting a dog, then spent loads of time looking for one, and now I’ve gone and got a 9 month old Labrador that needed rehoming.

Picked him up this morning and its all quite scary.

He is adorable, friendly, fun, loving and lively I think I’m in for some very long walks and a lot of heavy petting

There's loads of stuff on you tube about training pups, mi e has just turned 1, the first 6 months are the hardest, get him loads of toys and definitely get him crate trained.

Sounds like you've got an oven ready dog (so to speak) house trained a few tricks & decent recall. Any chewing? I wonder why he was up for re homing?

No chewing. The couple that had him had split up and she worked nights and he couldn’t take Denzil with him. I’ve been very lucky.

You seem to have got a cracker with him. If he’s like ours temperament wise you should also be able to take him on his holidays with you. I can recommend some top class restaurants around Kirkby Lonsdale, Skipton & Keswick to name a few where dogs are welcome.

He is very clever but a bit clumsy with it so very endearing

I can honestly say I am completely smitten 4 weeks on Monday he‘s been with us.

The twice daily walks are doing so much for my energy levels and well being, and his intelligence, playfulness and love are just too much !
Best decision I have made in a very long time.

Part time home working wasn’t agreeing with me prior to getting Denzil, not through loneliness as my house is so busy right now, but I was getting stale without the incentive to get out twice a day on my home days.
Love it.
