Only gone and got one 🥹

I‘ve posted before about considering getting a dog, then spent loads of time looking for one, and now I’ve gone and got a 9 month old Labrador that needed rehoming.

Picked him up this morning and its all quite scary.

He is adorable, friendly, fun, loving and lively 🤭 I think I’m in for some very long walks and a lot of heavy petting 😲

Amy tips greatly appreciated.

Dogs are ace Lala.
Typing now with mine squashed up next to me.
You'll meet loads of nice people out walking him/her.
Can't think of any down points.

MY son has had one for about two years. its actually our grandaughters but HE DOES most of the dog walking duties. he has got some recent stuff on his phone . ella the dog are ading in great big pools of water where he lives just outside preston. WILLOW has sort of made friends with a horse. it gets upset when she doesnt get to see it. it wakes him up in the morning with a big lick.

My granddaughter lives with me, as does my daughter (her mum) . My granddaughter is over the moon with Denzil, they are wearing each other out already 😀

Labs are ace, my sister's had them for years, never met a bad one.

They're just cozy reliable loving dogs, the dog equivalent of a Sunday Roast before falling asleep in front of the fire.

We've always had Border Collies, the dog equivalent of a weekend e'd up to the tits and only drinking Red Bull.

The only dog more hypo than a BC is an English Springer. Much prefer BC's and Ive had a few and bred a litter. Great dogs.

Considering he’s‘s only just met us he is unbelievably loving and a little bit bonkers !!!
I love border collie’s but doubt I could cope !

We had a rescue labrador for 13 years, best £65 I have ever spent. Lovely temperament but also a fearsome guard dog when required. When we first brought her home I was still unsure if it was a wise move to home a dog with an unknown past but never had a single moment of regret that we did. So sad she is no longer part of the family.20180427_223352.jpeg

Lala, you can't beat a Gundog.
We had a Golden Retriever until he was 14 y.o. when we lived in Bedfordshire.
The most faithful and intelligent dogs, very loving.
Funny too. Every night we went to bed after putting him in his basket.
If we had forgotten something and had to go downstairs he was already on the settee, and looking guilty, but 'smiling at you.
Took him out for walks and everyone loved him.
Enjoy him/her.

You wont have any time for that heavy petting now Lala 😉. Just enjoy your new family member

Dogs are fantastic a man’s best friend for life but sadly like everything else old age gets the better of us over time.

My boy is a Dalmatian he’s 12 now got him as I retired but these days he’s slowly but surely on his last legs to pardon the pun.

His back legs have gone now out of sync from his front legs so it’s only very short walks even then he still falls down all the time and I have to help back on his feet and being a big Dog isn’t easy.

He’s not in any pain and still loved his food up to a week or so ago but the days he leaves food something he’s never ever done in his life.

He’s on medication but it’s just a slowing down process not a cure no one can put off the inevitable from happening.

That day is drawing nearer and nearer now as I don’t want him to suffer I’m just dreading the day Im going to have to take him on a one way visit to the vets.

Enjoy him Karen as the earlier years are so much better.

Aw that’s sad Jaffa ☹️

The worse part of having one Jaffa, is when they're poorly and you know it's near the end. Truly heartbreaking.

We got a 17 week old Chesnut Lab on Thursday and he is just ace, so know exactly how you feel.

I'm sat at work now and I genuinely can't wait to get back home to see him.

Good choice. We had a Black Lab for 15 years before his back legs packed up, great dog.
We now have a Husky/Black Lab which we have had for 7 years, the softest most friendly dog ever and he has never barked!

I would say get him used to being off lead as soon as possible, have plenty of treats with you for recall, they soon get the idea.

Good luck

Good tip, thanks. Just registering him at the vets and sorting out some insurance.
Ring round for vet quotes Lala, some are extremely expensive round here. I can’t name names with obviously being in the same line of business but it’s worth a few phone calls 👍🏼

Probably the reason why we always have more than one dog mate. At the moment we have a 5 week old puppy that we have bred from one of our 2 bitches. The other has had cancer for the last 3 years and we know she isn’t going to last forever 🥲

You DEFINITELY won’t regret having a dog. Does it take you out for a drag morning and night?
He will do !

I’m looking forward to the morning walks.

I’ve got lazy with all this hybrid home working and I need to up my game.

We’ve had a walk early afternoon and he’s a little pully on the lead but not too bad at all really. Big long walk later after he’s had his tea.

Good shout Mosser, thanks 👍
Also get good advice on food for him. A better food, which isn’t always more expensive when you work out feeding amounts per weight of dog, will definitely give him a healthier and longer life…… look for a range in any independent pet shop that is available from puppy to junior to adult and then to senior with several varieties of adult in case he develops allergies or skin/stomach problems 👍🏼

We’ve got two little terriers (actually my daughter’s) but muggins does all the walking! My ex daughter-in-law has kept the Labrador (Otis as in Redding). Brilliantly intelligent, tricks galore, miss him. Son’s new partner has two British bulldogs: more slobber than a breaking wave.

have a great time with him, They are really your best friend.

An amusing analogy. You take your dog out for walks but never say hello to strangers who don't have a dog. If they've got a dog, you'll always say hello and soon start to stop and say hello to each other whilst the dogs get to know each other.
