OT - Mason Greenwood

Man Utd have announced he won't train or play for the club until further notice. Quite right too, if it's him in the recording and the assault/rape is true I hope he gets jail time!

As someone posted above, I'm sure he was accused of false imprisonment at one point as well, sounds like a complete scumbag 😡

End of his career if he gets sent down.

Feel sorry for his parents more than
anyone all the time and money they must have spent on him as a kid for him to be a professional footballer.

The police have been at her home to investigate this morning so it all seems pretty legitimate and straight forward if they are arresting him.
Her father reportedly told her to take the stuff down from her account, which in it itself is quite sad and could exacerbate invalid feelings of guilt and shame on her. I hope that’s not the case and she is supported with love and kindness.
Her dad said he is devastated as the lad has been part of their family for 3 ish years.

Nobody wants to believe this kind of stuff is going on under their nose but denial isn’t the way to go ☹️

But surely all parents want the best for their children?
And yes of course you feel sorry for the victim.
Of course you want the best for your children. I have four children myself and hope that my wife and I have taught them what is right and wrong and to respect others. They all appear to be be very much in tune with that upbringing and are hard working, well adjusted individuals with nice partners.
Something appears to be seriously wrong with Greenwood

I dont know Mason, I dont know his girlfriend. I dont know what's 100% happened - I'm going to wait for ALL the evidence to emerge. If what hes alleged to of done is proven by the courts then ofcourse he should be imprisoned and not allowed to play football again ........BUT remember the Ched Evan's case!!!

Lock him up and throw away the key the dirty scumbag. Things he’s Billy Big Balls cause he’s a Man United player. He deserves everything they get in the slammer.

The thing that shocked me the most was the recording....... It actually sounded as whoever it was shouting truly believed it was OK to do what they did because they asked nicely at first.
The mind boggles and PEOPLE should understand NO means NO.

Unfortunately, in many domestic abuse cases the victim has suffered abuse many times previously and before they finally speak out. Coercion, dominance and bullying are the modus operandi of most abusers

Pleased this girl had the strength to bring this to light. Now let the authorities and courts deal with him.

A long time ago I supported an ex-girlfriend through an even more harrowing rape & sexual abuse case against her father who was quite high up in the army. It made the National newspapers at the time. She got justice in the end, but at the expense of tearing her family apart. Her mother sided with her father and the siblings were split. No real winners but at least it enabled her to move on with her life.

Its hard in these cases to gather enough evidence for the cps to prosecute, hope they can get plenty. Plenty in the past have got off scot free.

The recording is horrific, I'm always a bit sceptical when the media is driving it. Why did she record it, who told her to release it to the media. She probably should of gone to the police first. That said your guilty until proven innocent these days so the lads career is pretty much in the bin. If he is guilty then he should be put away for a long time. In other news Benjamin Mendy is still out on bail after multiple counts of rape, and Sigurdsson is out on bail, why ? what's happening with them both ? too much swept under the carpet for me. Will UTD come under pressure from their sponsors as city an Everton don't seem to have.

Presumably she recorded it, because it’s a frequent occurrence and she’d decided that she’d had enough and next time she’d get the evidence needed to make sure he couldn’t get away with it. A phone is readily on hand these days…

In fairness, my approach to any allegation of wife beating or rape is to assume guilt until demonstrated otherwise. If you adopt that approach, you’ll be right significantly more often than wrong.

We give way too much credence and attention to the whole innocent until proven guilty bullshit…. Too many wankers getting away with this shit.

I forget that Ronaldo had a rape case to answer to as well. Lovely club!
We had a rapist chairman, a player accused of rape recently, employed Lee Hughes after he killed someone in his car and did 6 years for it. People could say' lovely club' about us too. Or maybe understand it's not a club culture, it's individuals. Poor to have a pop at Utd over this.

If the allegations are proved true (and its looking pretty likely with supporting audio clips and photos) then i wonder what will happen to his career?

I’d like to think that will be curtains, and rightfully so, but unfortunately strikers are in short supply. At the very least i’d hazard a guess his united career is over.

I wonder if this could also mean prison time? What a waste of all the privilege he’s been given!

I’d say his football career is well and truly over completely, never mind united how on earth does he ever step onto a football pitch again without being chased off? Look at the evidence it appears to be extremely damning and if proven true then he’s jail time 100% and he’ll never play football again and if he does he’ll have both his legs broken

I don’t really get this ? Why would somebody record it in the 1st place plus the recording should definitely not be being banded about on social media. Christ what has society become.

On the fiirst question on recording it. Many domestic abuse victims are typically bullied, coerced and abused repeatedly before they work up the courage to expose it. Perhaps she thought that only by covertly recording the next time she was abused would anyone believe her? Exposing it could be that cry for help. And we know that celebrity footballers often have high powered lawyers and supporters to get them out of trouble. I think it took some guts to do what she has done especially being so young

I don’t blame her for recording it, although a lot of it was for the benefit of the recording. Making sure she says his name and saying out loud what he’s doing. Also Greenwood saying “stop talking to me” and “stop pushing me” probably means she was trying to get a reaction on record from him.

So you are saying victims of abuse should shut up and be quiet? I think if you are genuinely being abused and beaten it's a ** brilliant way to hang the fcker dry.
No, it's not. It's completely the wrong route. A person should follow due legal process at first i.e. go to the Police...
Otherwise you get "trial by social media", the "mob mentality" etc as demonstrated by some of the comments on here.
Just imagine if it was you being accused on social media of something unpleasant - which does of course happen to many "ordinary people" all the time. What hope for justice in this country if people believe what someone posts without proper, legal investigations. That's why we have a legal system - with a 12 person jury for serious crimes to decide the outcome. I find it shocking that many people think this is the right route for proper "justice"...
Btw, if, after a proper criminal investigation, he is found guilty, then he deserves a long prison sentence.

Totally agree that she was right to record what was going on (allegedly), because of fear of not being believed...
But publishing on social media instead of going via the correct legal channels was the wrong course of action, in my opinion - and may well prejudice her case as his lawyers will argue that he has no chance of a fair trial now.

When you think of the true gentlemen of the era of Mortenson, Finney ,Matthews and Armfield and then see this then you just feel sad for how the world has gone.
An awful lot "happened" in the past that was never publicised...there is nothing to suggest that human beings behave better or worse now than they ever have.

That's true but by and large footballers had families, prioritised family life as the most important thing and respected fellow professionals.

Jimmy Armfield for instance decided to pursue a career in journalism rather than football, but did so after talking through with his wife.

Many of today's footballers have far too much wealth early and seem to materialistic, which is why we'll never see one club players reaching 500 appearances etc.

You are making some assumptions there King

Not sure that’s correct

Ever heard of super injunctions? The law is not blind, the law favours the massively rich

I think if you take a step back and reject the phone hacking excuse, the most likely scenario is a very fragile girl has felt angry, hurt or scared enough to post this in the early hours of the morning after god knows what provocation...and then through guilt or loyalty has tried to walk things back.
I'm not having a go at you, but I don't think anyone really has the right to tell her what the right or wrong thing to do is. It might not be the smartest thing to do in a legal sense, but that's clearly not where her head is.
