Our season so far (minus the first six games)

Stumbled across this and found it quite interesting:

If we ignore the first six games of this season, we’d be sat comfortably in 9th place with 3 games in hand over 6th, 1 point away from the play offs and 4 points from top of the table.

Meaning, if we maintain our current form we should make the play offs.

Critch quietly effective despite the criticism, we were always going to play catch up after changing the whole squad, can’t argue with the stats since. Fortress Bloomfield is it it 8 wins out of 9 at home? UTMP

Interesting stat and one which backs up my "gut" feel that we are one of the better teams in this division. Will be a big ask though to maintain progress and reach the play offs given the congested fixture schedule. The next 3 games will be key against teams above us. Four points plus from those games might provide the necessary impetus.

The next 3 games will be interesting Portsmouth away, Doncaster home & Charlton away. Let's see where we are after that. I would suggest we need 5 or 6 points to stay in touch.

Funny old league at the mo Doncaster list a few Hull up and down Lincoln still getting results and Sunderland looking better

Also Accy still well in there - feel we have a decent chance of the playoffs in a very strange season

But if not a great base for a promotion push next

Me too. We absolutely annihilated Plymouth in that first game. Wonder if those first 6 games would've turned out as bad if we didn't concede within the first 2 minutes? Certainly knocked our confidence.
 
I’ve always looked at the play offs and generally thought 70/72 points gets you in (6th place usually) on average points were not too far off that at the minute and as said baring the poor points start we’d be well in contention. Although I have to argue with myself now as I think it could take 75 points to get in this season. It wouldn’t be a disaster to me as I believe next season we could potentially really kick on with a very healthy squad and give the manager the time he needs.
 
Now with Games in Hand on the Top Two - I reckon win the next two games and we would be the in form side since Game 8.

If we gain the same amount of points we have in the last 20 games over the next 20 games we should finish the season on 72 points.

For context that’s been enough to make the play offs in 3 of the last 5 league 1 seasons.

I worked out the last 19 ( ignoring the first 7 )
Our return since then is 1.73 per game
If we replicate for last 20 we are on 76 points
Didn’t look at last year but 5 years before that gets you in play offs
 
If we’re looking at replicating the last 19 games we have to factor in the vast majority of those were played away.
A home / away weighted replication would give us well into the 80s.
