Oxford United v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 18.04.21

Will that be 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3?

Stewart and Dougall protect the CB's, allowing Turton and Garbutt to get forward and provide width. Anderson/Embleton playing as a more attacking midfielder, with the other and Yates playing off Simms down the middle.

Only guessing.
Now you mention it mate, it could be one of Critch's sneaky hybrid tactics. I hope so tbh.

I was expecting to see Thorniley partnering Ballard, with Husband at LB, and Garbutt at left midfield.

But what do I know? In Critch we trust.

2-1 to the Pool. 🍊 🍊

Im doing a bit of pre match stretching, to pass the time, dont want to pull up part way through with a cramp eh??

Not a clue, i just hoping i'm not shitting myself the whole match, mind you if you are shitting it it's close. The thing we have shown all season is composure, yes we conceded late goals at home but not many teams have rattled us over 10-15 minutes, they don't lose the head. Not always the most exciting but the most professional team we have had in an age, plus they work their bollocks off.

Doing press ups 3rd beer about to be opened!!

Would have preferred keeping partnership of Ballard and Thornily , not a big Husband fan but he has performed better when at centre back. Tends to get caught out of position, short of pace and not great distribution when playing full back/wing back.

I've been critical of Critch and his penchant for changes, but if you look at the bench - assuming that nobody has been left out for reasons other than fitness - the options are limited. This could be a good way of providing both defensive stability and attacking options. Plus changes could be made in shape as the game goes forward that would allow for tactical changes without putting square pegs in round holes.

Missing both Ward and Kaikai from the team and the bench looks like a big hit. A lot riding on Embleton, Anderson and Mitchell off the bench.

The two wide players are excellent for Oxford, Garbutt decent going forward but not defending, worried they’ll have a field day down our left flank especially. Now wasn’t the time to piss about and try and be clever. And I find it hard to believe that Kai Kai and Ward aren’t fit enough to play they were back full training last week so u can’t lose fitness in 2 weeks. Find it all a bit strange if I’m honest that he lose the back 3 which has been solid. Think we’ll be overrun. Anyway I’m bowing out for the evening. Up the Pool

Concerned about Embleton, so come on please and prove me wrong, pity no KK but would have gone with Mitchell

Feels a bit like we're set up to hit them on the break. Good to see Keshi get a start, Thorniley unlucky. So nervous!

Sounds like you've given up already.

Even after looking at the named team for 40 mins i don't see a proper formation in there. Hope i'm wrong but i fear we may struggle with this lineup tonight.

Not the side or formation I expected. Obviously Kaikai and Ward being unavailable is a blow, hopefully they aren't far off. Their best players seem to be Henry and Barker from what I've seen, if we keep them quiet we have a good chance of getting a decent result.

Looks like a holding selection to me, frustrate them into mistakes and come away with at least a draw.
Saving the big guns for Friday
That worries me. We've been better away this season and also when we take the game to opponents. If we sit back and soak it up, think we'll be chasing the tie

Yup took me by surprise that. Thought we’d be 5-3-2 with Keshi or Embo behind the front 2.
4-2-2-2 then. Oh Christ I’m nervous
I agree Chunky. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm a lot more nervous now than I was before I saw the lineup. I think although Oxford are down as 4-3-3, I think the reality is that they are going to overload the midfield so more of a 4-5-1. If so, the danger is that we get outnumbered in midfield and struggle to get our passing game going and control the game. History tells us this is when we find things difficult. Anyway, fingers crossed that I'm talking boll*x and that Critch knows best...

I'm completely calm which I don't know if it is good or bad? For some reason I've always thought 0-1 and not changed my mind

CMOOOOOON THE POOL!!! If that’s all the Oxford fans can manage I feel sorry for their players
