Pay per view (regarding the Prem and of course us too)

With all the current talk and upset to the Premierships pay per view at £14.95, what are peoples views on this ?
Is it too high or just too high or fair?

if people think it’s high or too high what do people think of the £10 per game on i-follow?
Or even the season ticket price for league one teams which in our case means paying £13 a game currently (I?

helping the club out? Too much ? Any other thoughts.

everyone seems to have a view on the £14.95 but no one mentions leagues like ours just a thought.

I really don’t get the problem with this sky sports ppv. It’s not like Sky have reduced their service on the general sky sports subscription. It’s just an added extra. People just complain because it’s not free or costing a nominal amount for something Sky pay hundreds of millions for.
I also think the £10 we pay for ifollow is more than fair.

People already spend a fortune to watch a shed load of Premier League football. The clubs don't need the extra money, and if the broadcasters do then perhaps they shouldn't bid multi-billions for the rights to televise games.
It's the "fans have no choice - they'll do what their told" mentality of the elite hard at work again Great to see the foodbank protest and the money that has been raised for good causes. Maybe one or two greed league fans have woken up a little of late.

I put iFollow in a different category. Our games wouldn't be televised/broadcast without the service - OK, occasionally there might be a dodgy foreign stream but as a rule, if you don't want to drive to Plymouth/Colchester/Eastbourne, you're stuck with Radio Lancs or Ceefax hopping. Getting to watch us on the box is a rare bonus.

I see it as being a tenner well spent to watch the Pool, even if it is just Jerry Yates falling over for 90 mins, as under no other circumstances would I be watching these games without physically attending. And we're not able to physcially attend. And there's certainly no global market watching Crewe v Blackpool to justify the cameras/commentators/streaming tech being there

The Premier League has shown it has the capability and infrastructure to broadcast every game, and do it at no further cost to customers if the desire is there. Fears about devaluing its product have seen the money men come back to its weary, worn out and hard up customer base and ask for more for something they had previously been gifted for free. Never going to work.

A home supporter who has purchased a season ticket shouldn't have to pay twice for the privilege of seeing their team play. I don't fully object to away fans paying even though £10 would be more reasonable. But every credit to those fans who are donating that money to foodbanks and charities.

I don't get the outcry re the prem. The games weren't due to be televised in the UK. Until this pathetic stance of not allowing fans in is reviewed the prices bring charged are reasonable.

It's the armchair fans who aren't used to paying to watch a game over and above their sky sports subscription ( assuming they actually pay )

I should of added I pay it, and don’t really understand the outcry in the present climate.

Was it just me or did the coverage work quiet well before October.

All games were shown live keeping the public’s engagement with the Premier League at a time when it was crucial to do so for so many reasons, short and long term.

BT and Sky could divide out the lions share as per their deal, no doubt taking in plenty of money from tv advertisers, and the less profitable games got farmed out to BBC who were just grateful for any old scraps.

Fans of any team could watch every game, the staggered starts meant that exposure was at levels probably never seen before in the broadcasting world?

Am I missing the simple point that everyone thought they could make a fast buck out of this?

I know Mike Ashley’s statement is just an act, but when a lot of people are going to be on their arse financially in the next few months and the ease of access to high quality free streams no ones even going to pay a fiver.

The Premier League just don’t get it again, they’d actually worked out a decent solution pre October but have found a way to let greed get in the way of the overall picture.

That’s just it they don’t have to pay anything. Just do nothing, they wouldnt have been able to watch these games anyway. It makes absolute zero difference to anything.

Think an 'away fan' block ticket could be a way forward in the future. You'd have to buy in blocks to prevent home fans not stumping up.

I could see, from our pov, 1000 watching 15 away games at £10, which is £150k less VAT. Worth pursuing imo.

Seems like a good idea fcb. 👍
Of course, you might have to miss a game or two, but a lower price per individual game would even the price.

Don't see the issue with the 14.95 to see a prem game if you compare want we have on offer for less than a fiver more.
Proper production different camera angles and commentators not local radio it's day and night.
Sky and BT are still showing the same amount of games anyway.

Ifollow is what it is crap but at least its something but unlike attending BR not really bothered if I miss a game and for what pittance in puts in the till it's hardly going to save clubs.

I think the crucial differences are these:

Prem fans with season tickets don't get access, we do.

The £10 iFollow isn't new. It's in line with what ifollow has always cost. It's just now more games are available.

All the Premier league games are filmed and commentated upon anyway for highlights shows and foreign coverage. The idea that they're facing extra costs is a nonsense.

People already subscribe to sky/bt etc and it ain't cheap and it smacks of a way to make extra money for broadcasters

The loss of revenue for clubs at elite level is less significant than for lower league clubs

Lower league clubs have agreed to cut wages and control costs going forward, whilst Premier league clubs haven't even discussed it as far as I know.

I think it is not needed in the prem due to the massive amount of TV money they get.
BT & Sky didnt want it. Imo it was an experiment by the Big clubs to test the viability of PPV in this Country,
It looks like it has backfired.
I can see the case more for ifollow as there is very little tv money for the lower leagues and it gives a chance for fans to see the games while being unable to attend in person.
Obviously there is not a lot of money in it and production values are low,
Something is better than nothing.

I quite like the fact the production values are low. They less whistles and bells the better - no effing offside lines, dissecting every little action point or death by statistics. It's rather like going to the game... don't risk blinking as you might miss something.

It would be even better if I could watch the games, with 'crowd' on-the-pitch noise without having to listen to Chissy and Mark Atkins (or more accurately, from here on in, the away commentator of whichever team we're playing)

My eldest and his young lad are, unfortunately, season ticket holders at MUFC. He says he's happy to pay the £14.95 compared with the £60-odd he pays when he and his son go to OT (Programmes, KFC, drinks etc.). He thinks it's value for money. Conversely, I wouldn't watch United if they were playing in our back yard!
