Peterborough v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 21.11.20

Posh will be fired up having been turned over by Crewe, I think that result makes this game harder for us. But we will go there in good form and good spirits and with a strong line up. The makings of a good game.

Although results have picked up of late. This is a big step up in quality of opposition. I think we are still a work in progress and although I hope to be proved wrong, I think this is a tough ask at this moment in time. Home win. 3-1

I suspect it will be a tight game. I'd opt for a score draw, 1-1 or 2-2.

A 2-1 home win wouldn't surprise me, in a game we should have taken something from. Can we finish our chances?

Would take a point now, in all honesty. Got a feeling we'll bag but our back line is still a little way from being settled and I think P'borough, as the joint top scorers in the division so far, will fancy their chances.

Either way, like Mex says, might be an end to end one. Come on the 'Pool.

Has southshorepool arrived on the thread yet? Does he ever arrive (guffaws)

We need a strong start and all the players concentrating and ready from the kick off. It's going to be a very hard game. We need to be organised at the back and take our chances upfront

Bound to be a tough game this. Going to be a good barometer of our progression. I don't do the prediction game, but I'd be happy with a point.

Don't do predictions . This though is our biggest test for a while. I probably think Peterboro are better than they actually are and I've thought that for a few seasons. They always seem to have such a potent strike force.. But their result and performance at Crewe suggests they are beatable. Look forward to it and perhaps it'll give some indication of where we are at with regards to our progress.
Jeez, just read straiters post. 👍

Would really like to see a back 4 of
Turton Viking Ballard Husband
Honestly think we need to drop Marv for this game.

"Posh are keen to extend an outstanding home record in 2020 against in-form opponents tomorrow. They haven’t lost a single game at the Weston Homes Stadium this year.

“We’ve had a good week’s training to get the Crewe game out of our system,” Ferguson added.

“It’s all about getting the basics right tomorrow as our numbers re distances covered and high intensity sprints were way down on normal last weekend. We want to be solid and to keep a good shape as we know we have forward players who will score goals.

“We’re proud of our home record this year and we want to extend it.

By the time we get these effing internationals far enough out the way and actually get to play our best back 4 Ballard's loan will be nearly up.

This will be tight. Head says we lose by an odd goal or score draw, heart says Posh have a bit of a wobble and we win by 3 👍

I actually dreamt we won 4-1 last night. It was 3-0, they got one then we added the 4th in injury time.

I was asking about his dream, not a prediction for tomorrow.
Didn’t notice any fans in attendance and only remember the 4th goal which was very Yates-esque, a bit like his one against Eastbourne, slotted low past the keeper from the left. It’ll happen, mark my words!

Us to win 4-1 and Jezza to score last is 225/1 with Bet365. It’s got to be worth 50p surely...

Why? Can't see him dropping Marv, feels like he's coming into his game more and more and is probably the first defender on the team sheet at the moment. The likelihood is that Ballard won't start given his two appearances this week.
I agree, I think at best Ballard will be on the bench. Though while Marv hasn’t really done much to get dropped I can see Ballard and Gretarsson pairing up soon, maybe for a couple of Tues/Sat games

He played last night though so will only return today and won't train til tomorrow. I suspect he'll be on the bench given Gretarsson has trained all week and rested. Probably.
If fit I would definitely play Ballard with Ekp. He is a full international, performed well apparently and just don't see the logic in leaving him out. If anything I would keep the option of going to 3-5-2 with Gabriel in the starting line-up and Mitchell/Viking in reserve if we have to change systems.

Gretarsson is also a full international. Iceland / Ireland - hardly a letter of the alphabet between them.

I think there is a logic. He's been away on duty abroad, played two games, got back yesterday ,not trained with the squad all week in preparation for Saturday. Seems like logic to me.

I wouldn't go 352 personally. We just need a well organised and capable back 4, and some control in midfield. Just my opinion. Those things have been coming together in recent games.

My thinking was that Peterborough have probably the most potent strike force in League 1 in Dembele and Clark-Harris and we should put out our best defenders. Gretarsson is still finding his feet in my opinion and Ballard is better equipped to try and neutralise that threat. Whatever team we put out it's going to be a good indicator to see where we stand.

It's a tough call re Ballard. Change a winning team? change a team that's kept clean sheets? It's a tough decision and that's what Critchley has to do. It's his job to make tough calls.
For me Ballard is our best centre half, so I'd bring him back. If VVD was suspended for 3 games for Liverpool would they bring back even if he'd been away on International duty. Think it's a given that they would.

Maxwell
Gabriel Marv Ballard Garbutt/Husband
CJ Dougall Robson KaiKai
Yates Madine

1-1 with a solid performance
I think the only question marks are over Ballard or Gretarsson and
Ward or Robson/Turton.
Woodburn will of course return to the bench.
Edit.
I'm sure Husband will start.

I hope I’m wrong but i think we will be slow out of the blocks. Im not a fan of an extended break. It makes you sluggish. If they take the lead we’re dead. Just an opinion of course.

Blimey...as things stand Ballard is only here until January. He was unavailable for selection over two international breaks had a three match suspension in between and now we are talking about resting him as he might be a bit knackered!
I would play him today personally as the back four have a much more solid look about them when he plays.

I have an irrational dislike of Peterborough - think it's the name "posh fans", that tw@t Durham off the radio and the son of red face all combined

For me Ballard has to start, Grétarsson is starting to find his feet but Ballard has already found his. Agaist their strikers we can't have any slip ups and right now our best chance of that is will Ballard.

Yes I can understand that view and it will be a call for NC and CC to make, judge how tired he is etc. Maybe we need to handle him with care to keep Arsenal on side though, with a view to extending the loan, which must be on the cards.

Ballard should start, got great reviews the other night. Would only have Husband on the bench. Looks like maybe we have learnt to play ugly and win and not all the tippy happy we played a the start of the season. Think Critchley has realised that you cannot just play your way out of this league, you need to scrap and we have lacked scrappers and still do i think.

Big game for me this one - get 3 points closer to the top and show the recent form wasn't just because of the opposition we were playing.

Whilst he may or may not be tired it's an easy get out for Caldycritch not to drop Greta- possibly.

On any extension, I'm a bit dubious that they will extend part on the basis that they will have a lot of Cup games he could be involved in and partly he has shown internationally that he is better than L1 If he can have another loan Club that may suit Arsenal better if it was C/ship.

I'd love him to stay but it may take a very tidy sum to offset the reasoning for him to return home.
