Done themselves no favours if that’s the case, which I doubt it is. I think they just couldn’t handle Hull.

A one off performance catching Sheff Utd at a good time. Look at Stoke, Millwall and Rotherham for a more consistent picture. Home games against the likes of Hull will be the deciding factor on whether we stay up or not and tonight showed us we aren’t good enough.
 
A schizophrenic performance tonight. Couldn't be any different from Saturday. Poor all over the pitch. I really wish we would stop trying to play out from the back too. Just leads us into trouble.

“One eye on the Preston game!”
What a load of nonsense.
It may be a local derby to us but to the players it is just another game and if players go into any game thinking about the next one then they don’t deserve to wear the shirt.
We were the better team for the last 2 games but tonight Hull, despite their league position, were the better team and deserved the win. As simple as that IMO.

Maybe you’re right…. But you can’t tell me the intensity from the players on Saturday will be the same as tonight? They will certainly be more up for it than a Tuesday night against Hull! So yes I 100% think the players will go into Saturdays game with a different mindset.
 
I'm getting a bit fed up with this playing out from the back. We are just not that good at it. The Hull players new where we were going g to pass it before we knew, it was that predictable. As has been said earlier, Thornily and Yates were the only ones who seemed to be trying . A very disappointing night.

I don't know what sounds more daft

Calling it a schizophrenic performance? Did the performance hear voices or resemble psychosis? Like what are you talking about.

Questioning playing out from the back? Show me a side above mid table championship that doesn't do this. It invites pressure and creates gaps in behind when they press us high, its how every modern team plays. What's the alternate? Hoof it to Madine and play Simon Grayson football?

They are professional footballers they should go into every game 100 percent committed no excuses.

Playing out from the back is a great option when you can actually do it.
Time after time Blackpool play the ball short from the goal kick, knock it to a centre half, he plays it to the other full back who then proceeds to knock it back across the defence.
By which time the players have been closed down and we resort to hoofing the ball anyway.
The lack of movement ALL ACROSS THE PITCH prevents any decent build up play playing this way.
In fact, the fact that most of our players play musical statues for the best part of 90 minutes is the reason why teams can play round/through us with such ease and why Patino looks clueless trying to find players in space.
Couple that with the amount of careless passes we waste and its a recipe for a relegation battle this season.

FYI. Cambridge dictionary definition of Schizophrenic:

Having qualities that are different from each other and do not work well together.

I think that is an apt term for last night's performance.

As for playing out from the back, it's fine at times but we now do it EVERY time. Makes us very predictable and some of our defenders look uncomfortable bringing it out.
Even Prem keepers sometimes kick it long.

Serri and Docherty would walk into our team, I think Hull had a better game plan and better players than us last night. That's why they won.
