Ian Marshall was absolutely fantasticPhil Stant & Ian Marshall Anyone ??
And then of course Cartmell wouldn't stump up the money to buy him.Malcolm Smith, 5 goals in 8 games on loan from Boro. And that was during Harry Potts' Catenaccio period!!
Eric OrieWho was that Dutch (?) player we had one pre-season late 90s early 2000s? I never got to see him as we didn't sign him up, but he seemed to be getting some good reviews.

I think the term ‘cult hero’ is being stretched to the limit in many cases.
‘Players on loan / short term contracts who weren’t completely useless’ would accurately describe quite a few of the above.
Still remember his first trial game and he looked brilliant, the old 'sign him up' chant was to be heard, not so much after the 2nd appearance, think he would have been a cult signing though.Eric Orie?
He was worth a pop back then, not pragmatic enough for Megson, better to blow 275k on MalkinStill remember his first trial game and he looked brilliant, the old 'sign him up' chant was to be heard, not so much after the 2nd appearance, think he would have been a cult signing though.

I've referenced that banner Mark several times to the degree any time I hear the name Macdougall my immediate thought is "tap em in ted"
Ted MacDougall. Anyone remember a banner in the south with "tap 'em in Ted!" Written on it?
Lovely bloke. Taught my kids maths. Slightly embarrassed that he scored a hat trick on his debut but no more after that.Nigel Walker got a hat-trick for us on his debut but never managed to score again in his next 9 appearances so was sent back to his parent club.
Just seen on WIKI he died in his 50's from cancer a few years ago. RIP Nigel.
Absolutely no way. Cost us a fortune in wages and did nought.

Wasn't it a favour from Alan Ball for an old mate? He really was knackered by the time he came to usI've referenced that banner Mark several times to the degree any time I hear the name Macdougall my immediate thought is "tap em in ted"
Without checking, dont think he ever notched for us!
Scored the goals in the end of season away win at Rotherham that kept us upPaul Fletcher.
Bobby TynanBobby Tannion would have been a superstar got injured in a pre season friendly I think
I was surprised when I wiki'd him that tap em was only 33 when he came to us in 1980. Performance wise I thought he was in his 40's. And for someone who'd averaged a goal every other game we couldn't get one out of himWasn't it a favour from Alan Ball for an old mate? He really was knackered by the time he came to us
