PLEASE.. No Driving to "daily exercise" or to walk your dog...

Have been amazed the last few days that there are STILL people who think they can drive about e.g. to the Prom to walk their dog/go for a run etc.
It should be done from your house only. Please read the guidance below if you don't understand (or risk police action).

If too many people continue to take no notice, the next step will be "NO exercise outside or dog walking at all" (as happened earlier in China and currently in parts of Lombardy, Italy). Follow the rules 👍

I know what the rules say.

It's OK for me to walk to the beach(or any open space), avoiding other pedestrians as best I can.

Then, excerise my dog off its lead on the beach(or any open space).

Then walk back from the beach, avoiding other pedestrians as best I can.

But if I drive to the beach (or any open space), I'm an idiot!? 🤔

You've said you can walk there so what part of driving there is essential?

Driving is not essential for me because I'm fortunate enough to be able to walk the mile to the nearest open space, or two miles to the beach. But many others can't walk that far.

Also, were I to drive, I wouldn't have to avoid all other the pedestrians there and back, because I would be totally isolated in my car.

It's all about the owner's personal circumstances, and using your common sense.

I am not arguing with any rules but just a couple of questions please.

1. Why are dog walkers not allowed to drive their car to get ro somewhere where they can exercise their dogs ?

2. Are dog walkers allowed to let their dogs of their leads in playing fields when other members of the public are exercising ?

BBC News - Coronavirus: Stay local to exercise, says government

My interpretion of the above is:-
1) They can if it's a local space.
2) They can if it's under control (as per normal rules).

I drove to my local supermarket and detoured half a mile to walk in a nature reserve with my other half.
She is recovering from knee surgery and the nearest decent park is nearly a mile away from the house.
Surely I am doing no wrong

You can drive to a local place, I can and did drive to Stanley Park tonight in my enclosed car instead of swerving around people on pavements, at the park I could easily stay at least ten feet away from others instead of a couple of feet on narrow pavements.

I was much more isolated than had I wandered around local streets.

Expect on Monday a TOTAL lockdown where nobody will be allowed out to exercise, cycle, walk, or dog walk.

This weekend will see the selfish idiots go out in numbers and fuck everything up. Probably the same selfish pricks that panic bought and have now filled their bins with out of date produce.

The police have the power to fine you.

If you are unfortunate enough to be unwittingly carrying the virus... travelling by car and exercising in a new location could infect a naive area and visa versa. My farm yard has a public right of way through it with 3 gates to open and close... possible contamination point . Please observe the rules for all our sakes...stay local. During the foot and mouth epidemic I didn’t leave the farm for nearly four months... footpaths we’re closed etc . There should be no reason to close footpaths ( spoiling it for locals) unless people ignore advice. Cheers 👍

No one is suggesting travelling out of area.

If you are going in car with your dogs in the car make sure they are properly secured or suitably restrained or you could end up with a fine for driving without due care and attention aswel as being on the road.

we’ve had the plod inspect our workplace today to assess tgeeven though we are an exempt business so they are looking to enforce this lockdown quite seriously.

I know you don't make the rules Donk so I am not arguing with your goodself but how the feck can a dog be under control when it is running around without a lead and nowhere near it's owner ?

Essential work Courts haven't shut down and we still have to comply with deadlines etc
Most now work from home ( after a serious spike in our IT capability ) however I'm the manager of it all and need to be in the office

Cheers Hard week sending good people on furlough and trying to get down to a skeleton staff whilst complying with draconian court orders and judges who don't want to adjourn trials ( how the hell can they take place ? )
Hopefully will settle down next week

2020 My dog is always under my control, regardless of whether it's on a lead, walking at heel or chasing a ball.
It returns to me when it is called and doesn't bother other members of the public.

I haven't managed to stop him jumping in muddy puddles, but that's my problem 😬

I can't speak for other owners or their unruly dogs.

My daughter is going through a similar excerise with her business and staff, she's very stressed out at the moment.
Best of luck 🤞

Perhaps the reason they’re warning people off this is because come tomorrow when the sun is shining, most people will end up going to the same place.

I wasn't getting at you for a second Donk and have no need to doubt what you say about your own dog and your training skills.

Most dogs are not under control when allowed of a lead and whenI go for a run on large playing fields more often or not my run will be interrupted by dogs whose lazy owners can't be @rsed keeping the dogs under control.

Again, please let me stress that I am not doubting you for a second but your dog and yourself are in the minority.

Absolutely Donk.

It does annoy me that my exercise is hampered by their lazyness.

Just about all of them think that I should be impressed that their dog wants to run at me and I get the impression that I am supposed to stop, stroke the dog and make small chat with the owner.

I'd rather they just kept their dogs on a lead.

Who gives a fuck what you “would rather”?...I would rather my dogs can have a run which they can’t have on a lead........so what you are really saying is dogs should be banned as Pets.......if so just say so...be honest pal

I don’t have a dog but do they not need walking more than once a day? I hope you’re all sharing the walks amongst family members and not going out twice

I am not saying anything of the sort Blood.

I am saying that all dog owners should keep their dogs under control at all times.

I am only stating the obvious unless there is anybody who believes that it is acceptable for dog owners to fail to keep control of their dogs.

Not suggesting for a second that people should not keep dogs as pets.

Yes Blood and I stand by that.

I fail to see how a dog can be kept under control if it is not a lead.

No problem with discussing associated issues Blood but what I was actually asking was whether or not dogs have to kept on a lead and under control on public land ?

I didn't mean in your eyes, my eyes or any other forum member, I meant in the eyes of the law ?
