Did one of these after Critch appointed, and before the Burton game. Now the window has shut and we are 6 games in what do you think?

Edit. I suspect we'd have got very different results last week....!

Get in. I love a poll that’s not anonymous!

I imagine most will bottle doing it because they want to remain faceless though

I voted for play offs in the previous poll.
Only 6 games in, I haven't yet seen enough to change that view, so same again for now
Not played consistently well but still only 4 points off the top.
Hopefully things will pick up if we stay with 4 4 2 (please no more back 3) and Joseph performs well when returning from injury.

Here's the thing, League One seems less strong this season. I think a lot of teams will be separated by only a few points, with no real standout side. Last season three teams were head and shoulders above the rest. We need to be in that group and hope that we get stronger once the long term plan for the season kicks in. I think we will be in the mix.

Not convinced
Better on Saturday, but a lot of average teams vying for honours.
Unsure whether we'll be more consistent than them and if we're already thinking about Jan. Window, then can't be much confidence in what we've got till the New Year

If you'd asked me before Saturday I'd have said mid table at best. But I saw enough on Saturday to convince me that we actually do have the players to beat teams in this league, even if we're a bit short of firepower. We won without Lyons, Gabriel, Lavery, Joseph, and we didn't get to see Dembele, all of whom you'd expect will be considered first team when fit, so that bodes well.
I also saw a manager that wasn't too stubborn to switch style, because it was crystal clear we'd purposely ditched the possession game.
Keep that adaptability and we'll do ok. I think a lot will hinge on the quality of Dembele as we need that spark to break down teams that come and sit back - which will be most teams this season.

It’d be good if we kept this as a sticky; I will be delighted if I am wrong and admit it if that is the case. My username notwithstanding, I won’t gloat if I am right.

We’ve only featured in the POs in this division in what, 3 times, in too many seasons to mention; this is going to be a slog.

First two polls i went for playoffs. Pre Saturday I might have dropped to 7-12th. But I've gone for automatic! Why not? Very optimistic but there's no stand out team and we will improve. Exeter top and we handled them away fine in our shit phase. Beat Wigan who have looked top end. Rhodes looks better than I expected. Weir looks quality. Our defence looks good. Dembele might be very good in this league, but it's an unknown. So I decided to be bold.

It's early days so I'm not ruling anything out. We have, on paper, a very tough run of games in the next five. Ask me again after those, and I may become similarly emboldened. It was Saturday's performance, regardless of result, that gave me hope. It wasn't a flukey win, it was very convincing.

3 Things will determine where we finish ..
1. How quickly we get Joseph and Lavery back
2. Whether we can keep the squad fit
3. If we have funds for some incomings in January

We always end the season well and, for me, the important thing is to stay within a couple of wins of the top two (preferably a bit less) by the end of the year.
Wycombe away won't be easy but we need to prove ourselves away from home this month to really kick on.

We have the squad for automatic but not yet confident enough in Critchly to say so, so play offs for now subject to change.

We've done three of these polls over the summer with these results....

% voteEnd of JuneEnd of preseasonEnd of transfer window
Top 216.527.618.6
Playoffs38.751.555.7
7 to 1235.616.420.7
13 to 207.73.74.3
Relegation1.50.70.7

Optimism jumped in preseason and we were most optimistic about a top 2 finish at the end of pre season. Three quarters now think we'll finish top 6. Only 5% think bottom half. We know who you are. 😀

The last poll.was taken just after Wigan. If it had taken place just before beating Wigan the results would have been pretty different, no doubt. Such was the poverty of our play, and the long 9 hours without a goal. The change of system and impact of Rhodes and Weir, Pennington replacing Marv and CJ further forward v Wigan made us look a different side and got our optimism back on track.

Too soon to say.

The picture will be clearer end of Oct (possibly April).

I do get the feeling that away form will be the decider.

Play Offs and sadly defeat .. this one would be an important one and just get the feeling we wouldn't do it again!

We have played 3 shit games and 2 good ones , mid table at the moment ,but will change as season goes on no doubt.
We've had 6 league games.

Burton. Decent first half poor second.
Exeter. Solid and organised but few chances.
Port Vale. Ditto
Orient. Ditto
Lincoln. Shitshow.
Wigan. Loads better but nearly drew again.

Attacking wise we are still struggling really.

Sorry your right ,but my prediction is still the same at the moment.

and we have a centre forward now too who's already scored a quarter of our goals !

Agree with your summary, but Rhodes, Dembele, Kouassi and return of Joseph, plus Wier looking to score things are looking much better so confident that top 6 is easily achievable.
Rhodes will also improve Beesley and Lavery and that was clear to see against Wigan where he was talking to CJ and Beesley all match.

There's potential to improve of course with the arrivals of Rhodes and Dembele, and possibly Kouassi. We just don't know how much. The main worry is probably injuries and fitness. Joseph and Lavery may miss a lot of games, they seem fragile. Rhodes can't be expected to start twice a week all winter. Beesley has been injured a lot of the time he's been at the club, and he seems goal shy too. It's not the most robust strike force and we have managed only 4 goals in 6 games. We will improve, but how much. Which attacking players will do it week in week out for 8 months? I'm not sure yet.
