Realistic expectations for next season

Promotion top 6 has to be the main aim of this football club SS will invest wisely on players this summer for our new manager who will hopefully be Nathan Jones

Top ten minimum with play offs as the ultimate aim.

Expenditure depends on many things:

How many season tickets are sold?
Sponsorship: shirts, boards, other deals
Selling players in terms of both fees & freeing up wages
Selling merch aka shirts, scarves, tracksuits etc

For arguments sake a transfer budget or £3m-£4m to spend on 6-7 players and using the loan market wisely, like Ronan and Dewsbury-Hall who, despite results, have definitely improved performances

Anything less than playoffs is a failure.

Talk about setting yourself up for failure!!

We really do need to get real or it’s going to take years to get out of this division.

Of course we want to aim for promotion, but we really need to stop this “anything less than” shyte, because it’s really unhelpful.

As it stands, step 1, is to stop losing every week. Right now, that will be a success...Then we try and build from there... game by game!

Agreed. Yearly improvement, or date I even say “measured growth!”

The reason Grayson was sacked was because we were going backwards from where McPhillips left us last season. Finish lower than 10th this season then it’s been a failure

I do think the 10th place finish from McP was a bit of an illusory representation of where we were as a club TBH.

We only scored 50 goals all season and so it was our ability to hang on by our fingernails that saw us finish so high.... In another seasons, scoring only 50 goals might well have seen us relegated.

This season has been a shambles, we’ve got no real idea how the new players are going to gel.. There’s no sense of stability and no real established spine to the team.

I seriously think that we can’t ‘expect’ too much from next season at this stage.

That might change if we can finish this season well, but as it stands, I think a top ten finish next year would be a result....

I expect top six, possible top 2, I think Sadler does as well, which is the only opinion that actually matters.

I honestly have no idea at the moment....everything is in total flux on the pitch......maybe when we see who the new manager is and maybe finally see some shape/formation and a much needed uplift in spirits we might see where we are going.

Saddler will be aiming for top two, in terms of investment in the playing staff we are now dining at the top table.

Last year we finished tenth under a rookie manager who had no real backing from the board and an empty stadium for most of the season. Top six isn't unachievable.

We are miles off promotion and managerless at the moment, giving any kind of prediction is almost impossible. If Gnando leaves and the loans all go back we are so many players short of being where we are now, let alone improving. It would take an incredible summer transfer and an inspired choice of manager to bring a play off spot, never mind automatic. That's not to say it can't be achieved but seems unlikely at this point. We just need to start making good decisions as a club, the first being the appointment of manager who we all believe in.

I share the same aspirations as Simon Sadler who, when asked the same question said he would be disappointed if we didn't finish close to the playoffs this season and VERY disappointed if we didn't at least make the playoffs next season.
I think that statement of intent showed what his ambitions are and we should be very pleased to have him as owner.

Certainly, as it stands , there’s nothing in the bottom half dozen or so in the Championship that potentially could get relegated that I’d consider Next seasons run away leaders.

no reason, with the right guidance our bunch of misfits could be up there challenging.

Generally speaking though, it’s the teams that get promoted from league 2 that are often the ones somewhere up there ( or thereabouts ).

Top 6 for me next season. Especially if they do their buisness early in May and June so all the new players can play together in pre season be gelled and raring to go come the start of the season. I think the season kicks off next season on the 1st August 2020
