Rhodes announced

Let's be honest, with our defensive record we only need him to stick one away for the three points. If he'd been playing for us against Exeter and had been the one with the late chance rather than Virtue, we'd probably be in the top six by now. It's really fine margins in this division and it won't take that much to tip the balance in our favour.

I think some are looking too much into this signing - imo it's been done to cover an injury. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is. As loans for covering injuries go, it could've been worse. This should not be a signing that prevents us investing in one or two young players with great potential that can slot straight in to the team as well like we did with Yates and Anderson three years ago. I'd expect this won't be the last signing before the window shuts, at least it really shouldn't be.

People saying we should get Madine in January and that we need a big experienced striker but then are unhappy with this? Bizarre. Yes we still need decent delivery and the wide areas need improvement but one thing at a time...

As someone pointed out - "He's played the equivalent of 24 matches in the last two seasons, scoring 8.
Which might not sound much, but it's the same scoring rate as the likes of Nahki Wells, Will Keane and.......Jerry Yates achieved in the Championship last season"

I really though Rhodes was a lot older as he seems to have been around for aeons. For me this is nothing like a wow signing but I wish him well.

Unfortunately it just shows how low our team has sunk when we have virtually given our star man away and are having to "loan" a 33 year old from Huddersfield ☹️ has our owner lost any ambition he once had?

Going to be another long season.

We sold our star man for a large profit and signed a highly rated replacement, then we’ve loaned a proven goalscorer from a higher division… is another way to look at it 👍

Although initially, his stats look good, most of his goals were at the start of his career, his recent goalscoring stats even make Gary Madine look
prolific. He never had blistering pace which at least means that his recent barren goalscoring patch isn't due to the fact he is now much slower, but what he does rely on is decent service and crosses.

My anticipation level has risen a little at this news. Looking forward to seeing how this will pan out. Could be a decent loan for us - hamstrings permitting 😬

He's 33 now best days long ago but he's still better than the two currently playing up front.

Could be a dave Bamber could be a chris malkin
It just bothers me that it looks like it's a signing made out of desperation instead of Cosgrove who may have cost a few shekels more in wages but has youth on his side
The clock is ticking ..
Will we find the combination to the transfer kitty safe in time??
He has a better goals ratio than Billy Sharp and is 4 years younger .Folks would be doing cartwheels had we signed the former.

Judge him in Tangerine
This could go either way. Andy Morrell was a cracking signing in League 1, mainly because his heart was in it. If he is still motivated then this could be the same. We will soon know. We also have to create more chances just like the Morrell team did.

Andy Morrell was a few weeks short of his 33rd Birthday when he signed for us. It didn't stop him bagging 4 goals at Swansea to secure our spot in the play-offs, did it. 🥰

If Rhodes turns out to be anywhere near as good as Morrell, he'll finish his career as a Tangerine legend! Give the guy a chance to show us what he can do!

If we can top it off with a Poveda/ Rogers /Bowler type player on loan from a premier league team then that’ll do for me 😃
At the moment we don’t have any tricky/speedy players out wide ( apart from CJ) like we’ve had in the past and that’s when we play at our best.
I’ll never forget the good times with Marty Philipps and Ince on the wings

Many moons ago we signed a washed up Man City cast off called Paul Dickov .He became one of my all time heroes. Not just for his playing but his "sheer skullduggery" he could get a pen out of nothing. And score wonder goals . This guy could be our new P.D. its not a gamble but a shewd signing .Can't wait!!
Gone has :honest" Pool roll on streetwise Pool.

I wonder if he will take on a ‘mentoring’ role as I reckon Shane and Jake and even the young lads could do with some experience.

I’d say Gaz certainly had dressing room presence. You could just tell.

Good shout. Marv could do with a Keogh type back too.

Well I've not really seen much of him recently so I'm not really sure where he is at but surely is a better option than Beesley. Tbh my real worry isn't Rhodes but more our lack of creativity from midfield. Whether that's the players or the tactics isn't clear or maybe it's a bit of both.

This reminds me of the James Beattie loan deal back in 2010/2011 and look how that one panned out 😔.

Totally underwhelming, he is not what we need and another wasted squad place.

Feels like about 25 years ago since he went to Blackburn for 7 million, was surprised to see he's only 33, thought he was almost 40!

Lets give him a chance, I don't think it's as bad of a signing as some are making out. A lot depends on his attitude and how much desire he has remaining, he's gonna be showing up to training in a very very nice car, will he be a Poveda or will he be a Paul Dickov, who knows but he has very good pedigree and is playing at a lower level than he's used to.

That was in the PL against some of the world best defenders not Division 3 football, Beattie was overweight and unfit same can't be said from the picture of Rhodes.

He's exactly what we need as one of our four strikers(one we've yet to see) in our squad since losing GM.
Madine has been brilliant for us without him Jerry wouldn't have scored all his goals( 3 braces last season with him wide of Gaz for example)JH is better player than GM so hopefully has still got it in him.

Year left on his contract so we weren't going to pay him the wages he was on with Udders and Rhodes wouldn't have wanted a pay cut at this stage of his career, they get some of his wage of the books and we get a very decent centre forward cracking signing.

I think we’ve never recovered since losing Keogh. He was ace.
Marv needs a bit of a "re-set" tbh. Great defender but genuinely needs to work on his distribution. An extra defender may well come in but that may depend on what happens to Tharme. In the meantime I would choose both Pennington and Casey over Marv.

Get some wingers in and this won’t be too bad.

I’m still hoping Lavery will hit at least 15.
Hope you are right re Lavery, needs to sharpen up his finishing, three clear sights of goal last week(keeper saved, hit post with keeper beaten and missed target) should be getting one of them in the net.

Agreed. I’d like to see Pennington get a run of games and further gelling time. Casey is improving.
Marv we all know has his strengths but don’t know what’s happened- seems to have lost some confidence and I hope we can help him get it back.

Lincoln fans on Rhodes:

"Rhodes is a strange signing, has only managed one goal every six games since 2015 despite his reputation. At 33, I am not sure how much he has to offer them."

"Jordan Rhodes on loan from Huddersfield, surely past his best and has been for the last 5 years."

That is the truth but can’t blame our fans for clinging onto false hope.

Couldn't help but copy this post from a thread on twitter (or whatever its called these days).

Blackpool fans are absolutely deluded and miserable atm.

Sign an experienced striker on loan = moan we aren't developing our own talent.

Sign an up and coming striker on a long-term contract = moan that's he's not good enough yet.

Does that just about sum it up?

It appears Lincoln fans are as poor at interpreting stats as some of our fans.
Since 2015 he’s averaging better than 1 goal in every 2.5 league games if you ignore time sat on the bench.

Chopra was experienced. Who cares if they have experience or not. It’s about quality and goals.
