Right, fantastic result against Forest, who starts against Watford?

After such a good result with four different goal scorers, where do you start with the team selection against Watford?
Some interesting choices for Michael Appleton to make, will it be the return of the messiah Bowler, back to Madine and Yates up front of a 4-4-2, Lyons instead of Connolly? Rogers or CJ or both. Just where do you fit them in?
It will be very interesting who gets the nod and who doesn't, plus any other new additions, fascinating times ahead.

Grimshaw, Connolly, Thommo, Williams, Patino, Rogers, Madine, Lavery

Although I think MA will play that team but have Patino in for Dougall, Connolly in for Lyons and Madine in for CJ and Yates out on the left. Plus we may have one or two new players in this week that could change it again so he has options for the first time since he has been here.

The team I would like to see start has to include CJ over Rogers as CJ deserves to keep the shirt after yesterdays performance.

It’s beginning to look like a squad with options.it’s been awhile since we have had subs we could change games with

I’d have Husband in but couldn’t decide wether to have him central or on the left

Struggled to decide between Yates and Madine but when with Jerry just on yesterday’s performance

Not a bad shout, but not sure if the formation is 4231.

Also yeah you have to pick players who have played well otherwise it doesn't reward merit and sends the wrong message.

However whichever way we do it with the wingers, whether Rogers on as a sub or CJ against tired legs, either way there's good pace and threat to come on.

This is the best shout.

Bench: Grimmy, Williams, Connolly, Carey, Rodgers, Lavery, Madine.

Beesley hasn't been up to much, Dom Thompsons first impact against Forrest was to foul someone in the box, he's good but a liability.

Based on what I saw yesterday this team deserves a go against Watford.

You want Thompson on the bench as with him and Hubby both lb and cb are covered for injuries mid game.

My view would be

Maxwell

Lyons
Ekpiteta
Thorniley
Husband

Connolly
Patino

Poveda

Yates
Madine
Hamilton

Bowler will not be match fit for a few weeks so him and Rogers to be used as subs.

Grimshaw
Thompson
Carey
Dougall
Lavery
Bowler
Rogers

Some difficult choices and it's nice to be able to say that for a change, I'd go with

Maxwell

Lyons (we need to see if he can perform at this level)
Marvin
Thorniley
Husband

Carey (because I think Patino needs a rest)
Dougall/Connolly
Poveda

Yates
Madine
CJ (hard to leave him out after yesterday but if Bowler is fully fit, sorry CJ)

Grimmy, Thompson, Rogers, Bowler/CJ, Lavery, Connolly/Dougall, Patino

Could all depend on any further incoming players this week though.

Next home game Bowler must start though, just to perk the crowd up

Curious.. are people leaving Grimmy out because they’ve just accepted Maxwell will start? Or genuinely believe he’s warranted his spot now?

Harsh on CJ after a decent performance and a good goal but I think that’s our best front three.

Stats (facts) show he scores more at this level cutting in from the wing.
no they don't. Facts ie video evidence show that he's scored most of his goals from being inside of the penalty box when the ball comes in. Yesterday being an example.

That's two separate points... I'll make it simpler.

My point is Yates is more prolific (scores more goals) when he's been played on the wing, this season compared to last literally proving it, especially when you look at goals per minute on the pitch.

You're trying to say Yates scores inside the box? Correct and supports my point, Yates is better cutting in off the wing (this means running into the box from the wing) rather than playing directly down the middle with his back to a defender or running off a defender.

He's being played on the wing as when he cuts inside to the box he's often unmarked and has the space he needs to score, unlike last year being played as a central forward.

Thanks for proving my point.

you think some-one who hadn't scored in ten games was "in form". 🤡 And that wasn't what you meant at all.

Great reply, loved your choice of facts and stats to back up your point.

I realise this is a board for debate and fun and acknowledge some are more knowledgeable about modern football than others.

I'd love to know your seat number so we can chat in person.

ooooh, is that a threat my little stalker friend?

Not at all, you said you wasn't a keyboard warrior so I thought you'd be happy to oblige.
happy to oblige what? I've told you enough times where I sit but you continually want to abuse me and the stands that other people sit in.

Bit vague saying a row of 40+ people 😂

Thought as much anyway.
Plenty of people on here know who I am and have met me. You on the other hand? Not me, that's the keyboard warrior. It's not me that stalks you is it?

I think at this point there is nothing between them, but maybe Maxwell has more presence, but Grimmy has the benefit of youth so can develop further.
I do not think it is a selection that particularly worries me, if Grimmy were to start next few games and Maxwell drop to bench I would be OK with that selection also.
As we are, so tight on squad numbers a more interesting question would be should we loan out Stuart Moore and name our development keeper as the 3rd keeper. We have had to call on 3rd keeper once in 2 years

Maybe Dougall for Patino needs a rest.
