RIP Joey Beauchamp……

…….no age dying at 50 😢 Anyone else at Oxford that Easter Saturday when he scored the 30 yard dipper past Eric Nixon???
very sad, i was there, it was quite local to me at the to me at the time as i lived in Northampton, RIP young man!

Very sad, real talent. Famously got a big move to West Ham and after a couple of months went to Harry Redknapp and said he was homesick and went back to Oxford, sounded like a gentle, sensitive soul , definitely in that group with Stuart Barlow, Andy Booth, Tony Ellis and players with champ/PL talent who looked like stars in div 2 (old money )

I was there too.

RIP.

I remember it well, Banks would have got it, a typically attacking Fat Sam set up there. I think it was the start of our one win from the last seven games. Oxford went up automatically and they were miles off the pace before that game.

RIP Joey, far too young.

I wasn’t there but remember listening to the match on the radio with my then 5 & 6 year old, went in the kitchen and heard be…… jumped around thought it was Chris Beech who had scored🙄

Tragic News like every one thinks/says……far too young…..RIP Joey🧡

Yep, remember it well on the crumbling terrace. Looked to have won it with an Andy Morrison header (?) disallowed for pushing, then he went off and did that, ultimately the difference between promotion and … you all know what happened next.

RIP Joey

I also was there, always thought that was the game/goal that I think led to our failure to go up that year, you could almost see the belief drain away. Was a blinder from a talented player though, thoughts with his family, RIP.

I remember Joey being a very talented player back then, very sad news indeed, do we know what the circumstances are? 50 is far too young.

I thought the goal that we conceded against Chesterfield a few days later was the one that knocked our confidence……. there was thousands there that night as well 👍🏼

Yes. Back to back defeats and a change in tactics to defend at all costs by Allerdyce. We'd been free flowing and great to watch until then.

Complete bottle job from the top.
Wonder if it was contrived? Been a few betting conspiracy theories since hasn’t there? 🤔

I really enjoyed the football that season up until then…

It was Walsall at home where he made some weird changes if I remember rightly… Thorpe etc..

Also, a contributory factor was a couple of key injuries. If my memory serves me correctly, we picked up a couple of injuries to Bradshaw and Holden. I believe that they were very underestimated in our success (until that run).

I was there, our goal from the corner looked OK to me. Even after the match we were nailed on promotion certainties, we were miles in front with a few games to go.
In the Oxford game, Nixon had a black eye after a 'conversation' with Morrison, could have affected his ability to stop the shot. Sounds like there were problems in the squad which may explain the form dropping off, Mellon was thrown through a plate glass window by Morrison around this time as well.

RIP, was at that game and think Chesterfield who scored a worldy against us too midweek.

I was at the Chesterfield game but not at Oxford and they did score a worldy as you say.

We went in to the Chesterfield game on the Tuesday top of the league, five points clear of Swindon - they had 3 games in hand and weren't playing that night.

Talking before the game we were saying that if we won that night, we'd surely be favourites for the title, it soon went a little pear.

Went to this game and then Bristol Rovers away the following week, end of that season still grates. Lost at home to Walsall and Rotherham both 2-1, went to York final day and won 2-0 but it was irrelevant as Oxford battered someone by 6 if memory serves me right to pip us? We were awesome first leg of the play off at Bradford, 2nd leg…😳🧐

I remember the drive back from Bristol Rovers and listening to the radio, where the reporter said something like "A disappointing result, but all four wheels would have to come off the Blackpool wagon for them not to go up automatically this season"

Remember it all too well, a young Oxford fan rang in saying they were going up, seemed ridiculous at the time as we were so far clear of them, d'oh!
