The goal actually looks better now than it did then from where we were watching behind the other goal. Think that’s the first time I’ve seen it since that dayI was there too.
RIP.
I remember it well, Banks would have got it, a typically attacking Fat Sam set up there. I think it was the start of our one win from the last seven games. Oxford went up automatically and they were miles off the pace before that game.I was there too.
RIP.
Awful news!!! He scored a screamer & I think a Chesterfield player scored a screamer in a 1-0 defeat aswell when the wheels fell off that season (95/96).Proper awful newsI can’t remember that far back, RIP Joey !
Nothing official yet I don’t think but I did read he was battling brain cancerI remember Joey being a very talented player back then, very sad news indeed, do we know what the circumstances are? 50 is far too young.
I thought the goal that we conceded against Chesterfield a few days later was the one that knocked our confidence……. there was thousands there that night as wellI also was there, always thought that was the game/goal that I think led to our failure to go up that year, you could almost see the belief drain away. Was a blinder from a talented player though, thoughts with his family, RIP.
Yes. Back to back defeats and a change in tactics to defend at all costs by Allerdyce. We'd been free flowing and great to watch until then.I thought the goal that we conceded against Chesterfield a few days later was the one that knocked our confidence……. there was thousands there that night as well
Wonder if it was contrived? Been a few betting conspiracy theories since hasn’t there?Yes. Back to back defeats and a change in tactics to defend at all costs by Allerdyce. We'd been free flowing and great to watch until then.
Complete bottle job from the top.
I really enjoyed the football that season up until then…Yes. Back to back defeats and a change in tactics to defend at all costs by Allerdyce. We'd been free flowing and great to watch until then.

Also, a contributory factor was a couple of key injuries. If my memory serves me correctly, we picked up a couple of injuries to Bradshaw and Holden. I believe that they were very underestimated in our success (until that run).Yes. Back to back defeats and a change in tactics to defend at all costs by Allerdyce. Don’t say that you’ll have Andy Morrison arranging to meet you on the car parkWonder if it was contrived? Been a few betting conspiracy theories since hasn’t there?
Holdens delivery was brilliant. Created loads. Also, a contributory factor was a couple of key injuries. If my memory serves me correctly, we picked up a couple of injuries to Bradshaw and Holden. I believe that they were very underestimated in our success (until that run).
Totally agree. He wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing player but he was very effective.Holdens delivery was brilliant. Created loads.
John Deary at right back. Baffling.I really enjoyed the football that season up until then…
It was Walsall at home where he made some weird changes if I remember rightly… Thorpe etc..
That’s a conversation for you and him to have mateDon’t say that you’ll have Andy Morrison arranging to meet you on the car park

RIP, was at that game and think Chesterfield who scored a worldy against us too midweek.
Quite right. I was thinking of Andy Gouck.Wiz
I know you will have forgotten more about the Mighty than I will ever know but are you sure John Deary played for us in that game (2-1 home defeat to Walsall at end of 95/96 season) ?
I remember the drive back from Bristol Rovers and listening to the radio, where the reporter said something like "A disappointing result, but all four wheels would have to come off the Blackpool wagon for them not to go up automatically this season"Went to this game and then Bristol Rovers away the following week, end of that season still grates. Lost at home to Walsall and Rotherham both 2-1, went to York final day and won 2-0 but it was irrelevant as Oxford battered someone by 6 if memory serves me right to pip us? We were awesome first leg of the play off at Bradford, 2nd leg…
Remember it all too well, a young Oxford fan rang in saying they were going up, seemed ridiculous at the time as we were so far clear of them, d'oh!I remember the drive back from Bristol Rovers and listening to the radio, where the reporter said something like "A disappointing result, but all four wheels would have to come off the Blackpool wagon for them not to go up automatically this season"
