RIP Matthew Guthrie (known as Shaggy) Aged 25

On Saturday night my son's best friend was in the centre of Lytham when he was punched in the face for no reason and fell to the ground banging his head.

Yesterday morning his mum texted me to say that he had died.

Matthew was a funny, happy, caring young man and what has happened is tragic beyonds words.

He followed the Pool all over the country with my son and sat with us on Row R in Block B of the North Stand.

Matthew had just renewed his season ticket and had begun making plans with my son to visit grounds this season they hadnt been to.

This is such a waste of a young life.

We will never forget him but its going to be so emotional seeing his empty seat at Bloomfield Road.
 
That’s absolutely shocking to hear that. RIP Mathew can’t imagine for one moment what your family and friends must be going through at this very sad time!

What a ** waste. I'm so sorry for your son's friend.
 
This is yet another young life taken, without rhyme or reason. It happens far to often and if the police were fully staffed, out of their control, and more importantly foot patrols were reinstated in town centres at night may be reduced. They are far too reactive rather than proactive. As has been said before what a bloody waste of a young life.
 
Terrible, what is the world coming to, it seems almost normal for thugs to kill peopl now. Condolences to his family.
 
Absolutely tragic makes me feel so sad. R I P Matthew. Saw Matthew at many pool games.
My thoughts and sincere condolences go out to all his family and friends. Can’t even imagine what they’re all going through right now. Heartbreaking

Literally scores of incidents like this, just Google "one punch death".
Unfortunately he'll probably get away with a menial sentence.

Gutted for the lad and his family.
 
Absolutely hate reading things like this.
Can't add anymore than a waste for a young lad with supposedly his life in front of him.

Very very sad to hear this news that is getting more and more regular😔

The reason this is happening more is that the punishment never fits the crime. The scumbag will probably claim mental illness, he'll be back on the street in a couple of years whilst Mathew's family have a LIFETIME of sorrow.🧡
 
So sorry to hear this. I'm not sure there can be any, but heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.
