RIP Sir Bobby Charlton

In my teens I watched the pool at weekends but as a pal had cousins in Manchester who were avid United fans I saw a lot of mid week European games with Best, Law and Charlton in attack. Bobby was such a natural footballer and could hit the ball like a rocket. Nice to have a stand at old trafford named after him. Thanks for t he memories Sir Bob

Had a 'moment of reflection' before the Barcelona Vs Athletic Bilbao game and it was impeccably observed. If that was in the UK paying respects to a foreign football legend who had died I'm sure some idiots would have been shouting out.

Yep well done Sir Alf
It wasn’t as simple as that. My brother and I were there. There was a terrible heat wave in Leon and the Germans were acclimated. Based there. Bobby was exhausted and Alf had to take him off. At 2-0 Colin bells shot skimmed the outside of the post game over at 3-0. One jammy goal for them and bonettis half hearted attempt to save 2nd & 3rd goals. Gordon Banks was ill 😷 did someone get at his food. We should have made at lest the final Brazil were afraid of us

As Shearer said last night on Match of the day.
Not only a great goalscorer but a scorer of great goals.⚽👍🏻

Just watched a youtube video of all his England goals
wasn’t old enough to see him play, he could certainly hit the ball ehh, was he left or right footed?
Dribbled with both feet and banged them in with both feet as well

He was and always will be the footballer who was the absolute best of all that is good in football. I was at the Wembley for the European Cup victory and that will always stay in my mind.

I was never a fan of United, but Bobby transcended football rivalry to be admired by every football fan.

The power on his shots, with a heavier ball on shocking pitches was something to behold.

I still think we would have won the 70 World Cup if Alf had left him on the pitch against West Germany.

RIP

Sadly never saw him play live, and he'd retired by the time I was properly starting to follow football.

Going on from what someone said above about his fitness, I remember watching him in Superstars - first time round, when the most famous sportsmen in England were still allowed to enter it. Must have been well into his 40s by then, still won the 100m hands down, very fast.
