RIP Sir Bobby Charlton

My son when he was 6 decided he wanted to support Man United( 28 now and seen the error of his ways) . We used to take him to Old Trafford and one time we were in the Red Cafe and I was pointing out the murals on the wall and said that's Bobby Charlton. My wife said that's Bobby Charlton behind you. I turned around and he was at another table. When he got up to leave he made a point of stopping at our table and speaking to my son and shaking his hand. I was just gobsmacked.and didn't say a word

There was a time when travelling abroad, with little/no shared language, ‘English - Bobby Charlton’ was all you had to say to confirm your national identity & be assured of a smile & friendly greeting.

The last of the Busby Babes - a gentleman & always a credit to his club & country. RIP.

Genuine nice bloke from what I’ve seen about him. Unfortunately nobody lives forever but I’ll remember the Charlton thunderbolt forever. RIP ☹️

RIP Bobby

Watched you many times in the 60’s .
Last time I watched you on the pitch was when one of your thunderbolt shots nearly burst the South Stand goal only to be disallowed. 1-1 draw in our last game in Div 1.
Next time was walking down the West Stand touch line unhappy as Manager of the Nobbers you lost 3-0.

Never forget the big part you played in the 1966 WC.

Hope everyone shows the respect he deserves in the next week or so as I am sure there will be many games will hold a minutes respect. True legend. Class enough said 😪

Some lovely words on here and he deserves them all.
A true legend who made Man Utd and England great. A thoroughly nice bloke who had the touch of Jimmy Armfield class about him.
RIP

Bobby Charlton rampaging forward for a shot on goal for England, was one of the finest sights of my lifetime. One of our greatest ever. RIP Sir Bobby.

Bobby Charlton was in a very elite group of footballers universally respected by all football fans no matter the club they support. RIP great man.

He's a nailed on first team choice for the after-life first 11 team. Up there with Pele, Di Stefano, Puskás, Matthews, Messi. Unique.
