RIP to the four Shrewsbury lads.

These stories don't usually bother me but I have been following this all day.and has really upset me. Probably because I can identify with them albeit nearly 50 years ago. A mate passing his test and jumping in his car and all off on an adventure.
Parents, Grandparents,. siblings, friends all devastated

I've had some sad things happen in my life, though not on a par with this. I've no idea how people can cope in such situations.
Life is so fragile. Make sure you live every minute, do silly things, fulfil dreams, laugh, be kind , be happy.

I too have followed this for a while, expecting it to be a Mountain rescue story. Tragic for them and their families. RIP

RIP, just horrible, know that road well, it's just down from Beddgelert on the way to the coast, it's quite hairy, can't think of any significant water though.

I know the area quite well and actually had a client just outside Garreg. some of the corners on the road are real 2nd gear corners and not well seen. On the bits I've seen, I'm sure I know the corner where they came to grief. I can imagine 4 lads off the leash for the first time not appreciating the dangers on that road, particularly in the reported atrocious weather in the area that night.

Totally tragic and my thoughts are with their families.

RIP young fellahs.

There is a corner with a bridge just before/after it depending on which way you are travelling with a small river, if in flood would be fast and deep Lytham.

We are subjected to tragic stories weekly, but this one was way more affecting for me. Not exactly sure as to why. Perhaps it was the the photos of them.

Perhaps it was because it was four young pals going on a road trip adventure, which is a staple of adolescence camaraderie and bonding: and few things are better when you are a teenager than heading off on an adventure with your best pals. Many of us have done it, and can look back on it fondly.

So very sad that this adventure has ended with four young lives being tragically extinguished.

RIP.

Perhaps it’s also because you have a son.
I remember when Dunblane happened, my daughter was a little blonde thing the same age as some of the little kids who were killed and I was absolutely devastated by that one.

It is just totally tragic for these boys and their families.

You are very perceptive, Lala. Deep down I suspect that is at the root of my feelings on this one...

We all had adventures in our youth that involved driving to the destination. It makes me wonder when guilty of driving round the Lake District in a knackered old Mini whilst relatively inexperienced & probably too fast. In a way we were just lucky to have got away without anything serious happening. Unfortunately not all do for whatever reason. Terrible tragedy RIP.

Indeed. Think it's relatable to a lot of us.

One of the mums never knew her lad was going camping. Definitely something I would have done. And also we spend many nights pretty much rallying in an unroadworthy and rusted up old Vauxhall Cavalier round Beacon Fell and over the Bowland Moors at stupid speeds in the dark. There before the grace of God nothing bad ever happened.

Me too because Max was just 6.

Coincidentally, I was talking to my younger son’s girlfriend about it last week as she’d never heard about the tragedy at Dunblane. We then watched a moving documentary on Netflix called Lessons From A School shooting which follows the Dunblane priest who reaches out and offers support to the priest and community in Sandy Hook following the massacre. It’s definitely worth watching…

These 2 posts sum up my feelings.

Losing someone so young is heart rending.
But to lose 4 young lads, just starting out in life is awful.
R.I.P lads, and condolences to their families.

The autopsies state all four of them drowned. The car left the road on a bend, toppled into a narrow but deep flooded ditch, upside down, with all doors jammed closed by the ditch walls, so no escape. Dreadful.

Condolences to the family and friends of those poor lads and i feel so sorry for the lads themselves.

I've been camping myself about 20 miles south of where they were in the last year. I've been terrified when driving in that area that something like this would happen to me because the roads are unpredictableand deceptive at best. I'm a cautious driver anyway but I'll be even more cautious in future.

Unfathomable bad luck for the car to end up where it did. Poor kids. Hope it was quick for them.

That was pretty obvious from the moment I saw the photograph, their best bet might've been to kick out the back window, but with a boot full of camping gear that might not have been an option, the fact that four blokes in a Fiesta is pretty cramped won't have helped either.

It reminds me of an old Top Gear episode, where the challenge was to find the best car for a 17 y/o for £2,500. Clarkson bought a Volvo Estate for safety reasons, I can't help but wonder if they'd been in one of those this would've turned out differently.

Anyway, RIP to the 4 lads, and RIP to the 1,200+ Israeli citizens murdered on 7/10.
