Rooney...

Oh well, the pay off will keep his hair transplant in tip top condition, maybe a bit left over for a treadmill and gym membership 😜

Can't see what they hoped to achieve there with that appointment.

For a move that was lined up to happen for a while it looked like he just rocked up without having assessed the group of players he was taking on. And then set about wanting to change how they played and got immediately frustrated that they couldn't do what he could as a player.

I've said it countless times, why do clubs give ex players huge contracts thinking they were successful players so they will be successful managers.

FFS these club owners/directors are absolute numbskulls.
I guess it's because if they do hit the jackpot, they think it will come with all sorts of commercial positives. I.e. if Birmingham doing well, no one really cares. If Wayne Rooney's Birmingham are doing well, then people want a part of that. It makes no sense on a footballing level but then, an awful lot of owners have little or no background in football.

Wonder how much compensation he gets, to sack a manager when you were 6th is a joke especially for Birmingham in the Championship they were punching well above there weight. Rooney has just exposed where the club really are in football terms. Interesting to see who they go for next - Ince maybe 🤣 🤣 🤣

Sounds like Alan Balls time as manager!

Who on earth could you mean?? 😂

To be a successful manager you need at least a modicum of intelligence and the ability to connect with the players. Rooney has neither. Thick as a brick and the only ones that don't see it are the utter bellends with money to burn. An autograph signing costing millions for a few months "work".

Agree - but to some extent, Rooney did ok at Derby - so a claim could be made that he had cut his teeth there.

Yes, I’m not saying that every former top player cannot make a good manager, Pep has proved that for starters, but the skills needed to make a top manager have no relevance to football ability, usually a top player would go to a club with some ambition and a decent budget which should make things easier for him, however both clubs in Birmingham have now found out the hard way that former top players don’t make top managers and it’s been an expensive lesson to learn and one a lot of people could have pointed out to them.

True Bull. Its ironic that another goal scoring great at Manchester United, whose all time goals record at MU was superseded by Rooney, also failed the test when trying to transfer his deadly skills on the pitch to management off it. PNEs desire for Bobby Charlton to make that transfer as their manager never came to pass.

there are numerous examples. ex england . styles moore charlton. none made any success of manage. Jack Charlton the younger brother did make a success of management and was considered the lesser player.

Football skill aside, what is it about his whole off field behaviour, demeanour and personality that convinces anyone he is or ever will be a good manager?

Watched the recent Rooney documentary, warts and all.

He came across as a very driven but selfish and ignorant individual with a nasty streak, presumably due to his rough Scouse upbringing.

Not a nice guy.

How many great players went on to be great managers?

I can only name a few in recent history, Cruyff, Guardiola, Ancelloti, Dalglish...

Struggling after that?
Clough has the highest goal to game ratio of any player in the English leagues I think. Most scored in second tier though.
