Rotherham v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 14.09.22

Not normally one to moan but we have been ** awful tonight. Apart from the first five minutes we’ve been too slow getting forward and Williams needs to go back to Liverpool!!
 
No fight in this team tonight, Williams is awful…looks clueless defending set pieces just watching the ball. Why we keep hoofing it with lavery and Yates up top is beyond me. Should of changed things at half time but didn’t. We made a very average team look good tonight
 
Completely understand why we picked the team and formation we did after it worked well against Huddersfield who play a simialr system, but don’t understand why we didn’t change it at half time take off williams put on. Carey or Patino and got 4-3-3 when it was clear 3-4-3 wasn’t working for us

He let his man go in the first few minutes but his man didn't stick it away. He just shrugs when it happens and it happens all the time. So far off championship quality and attitude it's painful.
 
I think we're in trouble.
I think we'll struggle.
It will take more than a beer and a burger with the new signings to get me on board.
It's just poor and I can't raise any enthusiasm watching this lot.
Really disappointed with the whole transfer window .
 
Utterly appalling.
Defence a total shambles
The rest didn't look threatening in the slightest.
Too lightweight - everyone knocked off the ball with the slightest touch.
Terrible.
 
Whole team and management need a ** rocket.
Looks like we're in for a miserable season.
Fearing the worst. Hopes hang by a loanee balance ... Patino, Fiorini, and Poveda.
 
The only positive is we'll probably never see that formation and players playing together again.

Thank fuck we have some midfielders back, looked at least a bit better with the ball as you'd expect.

But our defence is shocking.

Gabriel always backs off.

Thompson has mistakes in him and passes to no-one at times.

Williams is shite.

Ekipteta looks a shadow of last season.

Grimshaw never catches balls and parried into danger for one of them.

Dougall couldn't pass to people 5 yards away.

Connolly was shocking.

Yates couldn't hold up a ball to save his life.

Corbeanu can finish at times but his general play is poor.

First touches were dire all round 1st half and some of 2nd.

Looked like a team of strangers and it was pretty bad against Huddersfield too in that formation.

Never want to see it again, we're no good at it.
 
Well that was poor ! Our midfield is not good enough ! I don’t think Kenny and Cal are good enough , I think Connolly would be better than Williams as a right sided CB in a back three. Changes should be expected for Saturday.

Dougall and Connolly aren't fit to lace their boots. We had Charlie & GTF too, we are a million miles away from that especially now Josh has gone. We have the lad from Leicester but he can't even get on the pitch, is he going to be too lightweight for the Championship? Why didn't he play? Why didn't Carey play?
 
that was Grayson Mk 2 level bad. it s as though the players were playing together for the first time. All over the place positionally. Two of the goals just really sloppy the third we were left short handed. I want to say bad day at the office, learn from it and go again, but im just not sure as a team they know what they are supposed to be doing.

We're not really pressing but we kind of are, we're letting a very poor team in Rotherham keep possession in front of our back three / four and just inviting pressure. no width, no movement.

i dont think we have a bad player in the squad, we know what they can do, at the very least there is usually the fight in the team but its like everyone had had their evening Horlicks and was ready for bed.
 
They were a better team than we were. It happens. What I can't stand, however, is the complete breakdown of intelligence. We are in a corner of the pitch with four of theirs yet we kept passing it around that corner. Get rid! Open up the play whilst they've got four men tied up. It's despairing at times.
 
Imagine it will be back to a 433 for the next game. We lacked players in the middle of the pitch and anything creative happening. Always looked on the back foot with five at the back.

Ok - so bad days in the office happen. But in all seriousness that was about as disjointed as I’ve seen in ages (I already ate my humble pie from earlier in another post!)

There was no rhythm to our play; the ball never stuck; we were playing high balls to short players; not playing through the thirds; no obvious leadership - everyone looking at each other; abysmal set pieces for and against.

In light of the circumstances of a postponed game it looks like all our team had a week off. And no I don’t believe it’s because Bowler left. Yes I think he was a great creative
Spark but you cannot have a single player define the whole team.

If I knew what the answer was I’d be a professional football manager - but something has to change. Can’t let this become the story of our season.

I feel for those of us who made the effort to go - I know that’s how football goes sometimes, but that was really poor from us.
 
How can the team not put a simple pass together? School boy stuff!! I like grimmy, however he needs to be dropped next game Maxwell back in, Williams can go back to Liverpool, Lavery and Yates what's happened to them their confidence is so low as majority of the team tonight... Or maybe it's just Appleton is way way out of his depth in the championship and more suited to management in the lower leagues. Oh well we now probably beat Millwall 5 -0 on Saturday
