Seasiders Podcast 830pm

He needs a proper chance, he needs this season and next to have the chance to build the team around the tactics he wants to play and he needs to be supported in the transfer windows.

It's still allowable to moan like fuck about him though when emotions are high and the fingers are itching to tell the world how shit he is, same as how we can all say how great he is when we are playing well, It's the fickleness of supporters like me and I don't apologise for it.

Don’t underestimate him though .

He appears to have secured himself an impromptu Q & A with Julian Winter.

There are some who would give their right arm for that.

Need I remind everybody that the last time we got relegated from the championship back in 2014 we suffered back to back relegations under Mcpuppet/ Mugdonald whatever you want to call him. Critch is currently doing a lot better than that

That’s hardly the yardstick is it

I don't think there is one because no two seasons are the same, the game is changing, the leagues are changing. I think you look at the current situation, the budget we have comparative to our L1 opponents, and taken into account the circumstances, like the relegation and changes in personnel, which we have had at player, coach and management levels.

I think most would agree that we are maybe 10 points behind where we'd like to be. Points we have lost to teams like Exeter 2, Fleetwood 2, Orient 2, Charlton 2, Port Vale 2. Five drawn games we might have hoped to win. We really should have won at Charlton and Fleetwood. The other three were consecutive 0-0 draws when we didn't look like scoring, before Rhodes arrived. These margins are fine though.

The current misery is down to one point from 3 games. We'd done ok before that, we were improving and climbing the table. We've definitely missed Norburn. And we are lacking a reliable partner for Rhodes. I'm not sure our summer transfer window achieved all it needed to, but the Kyle Joseph situation is a big factor and blow. And we keep losing players like Lavery, Gabriel, Virtue, Norburn, Lyons. So we just haven't quite got going. But we look like a side that could go on a run, to me. When things fall in to place, hopefully sooner rather than later. We are as good as Bolton, I think. And Oxford. We just need a few things to line up, player wise.

Agree with most of what you say.

However I have to say I’m a bit concerned about this game in hand we have .

2 points ahead of Wycombe who are 12th but they have a game in hand .

Lose today and we are under pressure if we want promotion imo.

By yardstick I meant comparing us under the Oystons in that period
We’ve currently got an owner who’s invested plenty and likely one of the best budgets in the league and so I believe we should be right up there
At Oxford we were awful in the first half and but I agree the second we were decent
Some mighg say I’m expecting too much but for me we should be right up there and the way we are setting up right now it isn’t going to happen
Let’s hope with Gabriel / Joseph fit and hopefully Norburn back soon we can kick on
We’ve a lot of catching up to do

Fair comment. The last three results have left us a bit adrift for sure, one point from 3 games. We had got into the top 6 prior to that. 6 wins from 17 is not enough. I don't disagree with that.

In those last three games we had to manage without Norburn or Dougall, and we had Casey sent off in one. We need to be able to deal with these setbacks better. We shouldn't be going 2-0 down to Fleetwood.

We need to create better chances. We need better wingers. We started the season with a lack of quality up front and now rely on Rhodes too much. We didn't recruit what we needed.

Nobody is saying everything is fine. I just think some people moan for England, and fail to see any positives, and exaggerate. And getting promoted is never easy. It's highly competitive and you need a side that doesn't really have weaknesses. We don't have that yet.

I think it's a discussion about patience and objectivity. State of mind and acceptance. Maturity! I don't back every manager whatever is happening, and I don't think Critch is ideal. I wasn't for having him back. But we can't keep changing manager, and he's better than most that we appoint. He creates a very stable environment, and he's very professional in how he goes about everything. He's a long slow burn manager. And 17 games isn't a lot, after relegation and the loss of so many players.

I think we'll improve, second half of the season will be better, I don't know where we will finish, but I still think top six, as I predicted at the start. I think we are pretty much as good as Oxford, Bolton, Peterborough etc, and it really is fine margins and we need to stay positive and play the longer game, and not fall into despair.

Fuck me, just watching this now, maybe a bit more upbeat delivery regardless of the content would help.

I can see why one person has been dubbed the grim reaper, pass me the rope/razor blades ☠️

To be fair to him, he comes across as a good guy, a good supporter, who is struggling with our performances, and we've all been there. I just think things aren't as bad as he thinks, we've all ploughed through much worse. Haven't we all developed thick skin and coping strategies? We all need to, all football fans. Keep it in perspective, basically. It's only football.
