Shambolic scenes on Bloomfield Road

After the final whistle we had to go all around the outside of the ground from the North Stand.

Bloomfield road was blocked off by police vans, horses and scores of scuffers. We were funnelled down the side road opposite the BFC hotel, and when we turned left towards St Annes Road only to be met by another road block. I thought"kettling" had been outlawed

What an absolute shambles. None of the police I spoke to didn't seem to know what the plan was.

Either the Police or the Club or both need to stand up and apologise for this

Yep it was a total mess. Needs urgent attention. Seems to me the people in charge just do not know what to do or organise anything properly. I’ll be amazed if nobody got hurt in all the fighting etc

Yep got sent that wat despite needing to go Bloomfield road way, went down seasiders way and turned left at the first available road and there's loads of PNE fans being sent round that way.

Was no trouble passing each other but why divert fans only to have flash points at different places.

Just after that there was a load of fans not sure which and police horses etc.

Seemed to be funneled into a dead end.

Bizarre.

Surely it's not beyond the wit of man to simply keep away supporters in for 10 to 15 minutes.
I know it's been mentioned before, but it's hardly against someone's human rights to keep them in their comfortable seat for their own safety?

We were directed down St Heliers Road then Maudland Road. Central drive was also closed off, so we got back on to Bloomfield road opposite the Bloomfield club. Didn't see any trouble but it sounds like that was more luck than judgement.

It's the cops who decide it not the club. A small group of about 20 Preston fans were kettled near the town centre Sainsburys earlier on. Its not been stopped and is still regularly used at protests and demos.

Nothing to do with the club. Outside the ground is purely the police…

There's alot of moaning on this thread.
Do you know what???
I was just rather happy we'd won and if I had to walk to Squires Gate I still would have been happy
Think you’re missing the point spectacularly, after we got funnelled down St, Heliers then turned left down Maudland to get back to Central Drive, we had to cross Saville Rd where all the Preston fans had been sent down, as somebody mentioned, but for a lot of self restrain it could’ve kicked off big style. Think you’re getting moaning mixed up with concern.

Yeah it did kick off as I have seen on here someone posted a clip.

When we walked past the pne fans they were silent and glum and all fans there were behaved and civil.

However the fact that they were sent around only to meet opposing fans anyway in a worse place, with no police and that fact we were too is shambolic indeed.

Yep out of North stand walked round the ground diverted down Seymour Rd and through George Bancroft park up Standsfield Rd round to Saville then Baron ending up on Central drive didn’t have a Scooby where I was.

Then to be passed by a load of Nobbers making their way to Blackpool South and I ended up 2 minutes from the ground then had to go to car. 😁

Fuck me that was bloody long winded way of doing things been around a park and streets for the first time ever. 😜

Did anyone else see the female police officer on the horse mocking Blackpool fans by loudly making a sheep baaing noise?

It was a brilliant plan from the police, if the plan was to herd all the supporters from both clubs together in a narrow area.

Absolutely ** hopeless, just keep fans behind, I guarantee you we'll be locked in Deepdale for at least half an hour, at least we'll be celebrating.
5k lawsuits against PNE if they do, finally bankrupting them 😏

Nah, m8, c'mon. That was shit. I had some scrotes dancing about in front of me going 'you want some, you want some' out of the blue when we were funnelled into the PNE fans and I'm with a ten yr old.

It was shite. No need for it to be like that.

I am over the moon but the coppers didn't play that game so I'm not over the moon with them.

Not arsed about walking a bit, just that it was a really poor plan for the situation imo.

I went that way. I managed to avoid getting into a fight, I hardly smelled a Preston fan and thought it all went very well.
Today was a one off and we probably won't see the same again for quite a long time.
The only people missing the points were the PNE fans. 😉

It wasn’t the Police on the ground it was the main officers who had no control or confidence to oversee what was going on after the game. The ground plod had no idea what was going on because the co-ordination from the big money men was clueless. Felt sorry for the ground crew, at least they were getting double bubble for doing something that in parts weren’t necessary or they really knew why they were doing it.
As usual the top brass were just laughing whilst raking in it for an abysmal performance.
Meanwhile Sadler will be paying through the tooth for this total inept and unnecessary action. If I was Sadler I would seriously question what exactly the top plods were thinking today.
If he’s not then he’s got money to burn!

I went where I was told and didn't see any of that and perhaps it helps because I was parked the other side of Waterloo Rd and wanted to go that way. (I recomend it).
I'm really sorry if you had a different experience but I can only report mine and for an "elderly" couple with a much less elderly son we escaped unhurt, unharassed and very happy.

Look, I had no massive *actual* drama or owt, but it was evident the potential flash point was simply moved a street or two back to where the police weren't.

Exactly.

Everyone having a go at the police ,but if they were not there and we all went our own ways ,I think it would be a lot worse . How do you keep people away from each other in a town like Blackpool. The answer is you can't .The next best thing is keep them separated as best you can till the larger groups disperse . They did that . Things might be better if fans did not enter and exit the ground next to each other .Maybe to be looked at if we ever get a permanent East.

Joan described what seemed to be a nightmare journey there & at the turnstiles.
Hope journey home easy & with no trouble.
Remember, they’re lashers, we’re the Gentry.
The Policing after the game was a complete Joke, held all North End fans on Bloomfield Road outside the ground for 15 minutes, then let everyone through and walked straight into all the Blackpool fans with no Police in sight, complete incompetence from the Police. 🙄

I just walked down the main car park with no bother at all. Sounds all a bit ridiculous. The point about concern rather than moaning is a valid one.

oh dear, you've seriously misjudged that. It was an absolute disgrace what happened. Police clueless and realised something wax wrong at least five minutes too late. .

I'm not anti-police, indeed my son who was with me is doing a policing degree to join the force and will be a Special some time in the new year.

They created the potential for absolute havoc today which is the exact opposite of what they ought to be doing.

I have never seen an attempt to have two sets of fans, let alone at the end of a derby, kettled down to parallel streets, in the opposite direction most want to go, then to meet in a residential area junction to literally cross across each other.

There was some goading through the alley gates, but as I walked through them they were very subdued, with only a couple of shouts either way.

The 4 police women on horses appeared to turn up as an afterthought.

Stupid, ill thought out, and as my son said, it felt as though it had been designed by somebody who didn't know the street layout.

I can only tell you my experience.
I thought you were a Westie now so what were doing on Bloomfield Rd?
TBH you were shitting yourself about this yesterday. 😉

yeah I noticed that, there were 2 wpc's on horseback, they were having a bit of fun / banter with some Pool fans and it was all taken in a good spirit, all round - they certainly weren't mocking anyone

True it's been a shambles and the police on the ground, haven't been given any direction... After the Blackburn game two police officers asked one of the senior police controllers " what do you want us to do" reply was to stop Blackburn fans crossing the road into the Blackpool fans . Both police just looked at each other "
and said "how do we know what team they support? Eerrr!!!

If as someone has already said - tickets sold with a condition that "you may be held back after the final whistle' where is the problem? Don't like the condition don't buy the ticket never mind the bloody human rights shite

So so predictable. What was ironic was when I got to Preston station at 1100 you couldn’t move for police. They travelled on all the trains from Preston. There were loads of police at Poulton and Blackpool North. Yet…..as we all knew the flashpoint would be outside the ground and they were clueless
