So the World is shut

It seems we are destined for the worst of both worlds.
A prolonged and semi effective Lockdown that has caused massive and on going damage to our economy and blown a hole in the Government’s attempt to control its own debt AND some of the worst figures for infections and deaths in the World?

Strange that the burden of proof should be on why they don't work rather than how they do 🧐 . However there is literally loads out there. Suneptra Gupta is a good place to start.

Also, if you read SAGE minutes leading up to the measures being put in place, they themselves appear to stop short of ever recommending lockdown.This blog and this analysis have already done the heavy lifting if you can't be bothered.

You'll have to find the rest yourself. Lockdown Sceptics is treasure trove of scientific study and opinion pieces that you can choose to take or leave. Even if you don't end up agreeing, it beats the daily drum beat of death figures and R numbers contained in the briefings.

March 12 was when the world started to go into lockdown. We didn’t go into lockdown until 23/24 March. Almost 2 weeks later.

Edit: this was in reply to 20s.
Have you seen my reply about what I said yesterday.

" I'm not defending the gov because we were certainly slow to re-act, as were most western countries[ yes we were slower] but if we are going to be critical, we need to be accurate."

Think that pretty much covers it. The key part being the agreement that we were slower. And as I said that was before Mac started his posts

One of the excuses Whitty gave for not going into lockdown at the right time was the fear of lockdown ‘fatigue’.
I don’t know if this was something he actually believed or whether he was coerced into saying it, but either way it was palpable nonsense which has contributed to the loss of many thousands of lives.

...and so easy to comment on with the benefit of hindsight.

I dislike old o/p's that are bumped up because a forum is based on opinions which is current as of today and you post what you think is correct.
It’s always the negative ones as well and it comes across as I told you so it would like someone bumping all the old threads pre general election from Labour supporters or Joe Nuttall is going to be the next Shearer. 😁

It is also common knowledge that on the 12th March the govt were seemingly adopting the herd immunity approach. And that is why were two weeks behind[slower] than the other countries. And I've already said enough times that was a mistake. A big one. So Mac really is hardly pulling up any trees with his I told you so comments.

Really, because that's exactly what I'm seeing happen now:
  • media have decided to give government a kicking whenever possible, justified or (more often) not;
  • where I live, large groups of kids/young adults moving around together, obviously not from same family and not exercising social distancing;
  • negligent homicide of one black man in another country is apparently cause to ignore lockdown completely, assemble in crowds of thousands and then go on the rampage.
My 2p, I wouldn't be surprised to see the R rate ticking up above 1 again across the country.
