Never ceases to amaze me how poor pros can look in the first game of pre-season.
IndeedYes I know it’s a friendly but this second half has been somewhat dire.
I honestly don’t know what Appy can take from thatpainful second half wasnt it
There’s a decent player in DaleDale tries hard but it never seems to work out …
Tharme was playing out of position !If the first half team played the second half team it would be one way traffic.
Owen Dale worked hard I thought. Reece James awful passing ability-maybe because of a dry slow running pitch. Bowler could have slaughtered them on form. Pity he wasn’t on form. Big Marv faultless. No right back choice out there. Apter was impressive but only uses his right foot to piss on. Tharme not championship quality.
That said, it was only the first pre season game after 2 weeks training.
Need a right back signing wearing the new kit Monday.
Maybe it allows him to show the players that 4-4-2 will work against teams where we need a defensive set up.I honestly don’t know what Appy can take from that
Is he a CB then?Tharme was playing out of position !
Perhaps. Equally the first half seemed to have more hungry young players on the pitch and there is some merit in letting the seasoned pros know there are no free lunches.Maybe it allows him to show the players that 4-4-2 will work against teams where we need a defensive set up.
4-1-2-3 for more creativity?
I agree the potential is there - if he isn’t in Appy’s core squad perhaps we should look to loan him out for the 1st half of the season to get him game timeThere’s a decent player in Dale
The nob head clown - a non league team can ill afford to lose a match ball & the trend of keeping a match ball when it goes in the crowd, isn't something we should encourageEbay: Blackpool FC match ball on offer. Buy it now £20
We said the same. If that had been a trial game, most of our squad would have been rejected.Never ceases to amaze me how poor pros can look in the first game of pre-season.
YesIs he a CB then?
Thank fuck for thatThis friendly will not be happening next season. Thanks to a few morons.
Those spoiling for trouble were far too young for beer.A few beers and a bit of sun and demons appear
Good analysis MrJ.First half, Keogh was excellent – his reading of the game is top drawer. Sonny Carey deserves praise too- very composed and some great attacking play from him. Casey looked assured at CB and Callum Connolly controlled midfield from deep. Connelly is looking more and more a very astute signing.
Rob Apter looks a good player – great first touch and always looking to go on the attack. Some of his early decision making was off but he’ll improve and looks an exciting prospect. Played out of position today.
Thought Owen Dale looked good when he came on, as did Marvin.Too early to judge Doug Thame, though his throw-ins were good.
Gary Madine played well – always has when I’ve seen him. Good football brain – rarely see him lose the ball and his thoughts are usually a few seconds ahead of the defenders marking him.
Jordan Thorniley played well apart from one hooked crossfield ball. In the main, his positioning was excellent and most of his distribution was on the money.
Josh and Keshi looked out of sorts – don’t know why – hopefully they‘ll both be with us this season.
Good to see Matty Virtue back – some of his touches were brilliant and he’s a player that has both vision to create scoring opportunities and score a few himself – really hope he avoids injury this season as he has the attributes to be a top player for us.
A and b for Southport.Did A Trialist play today ?

Centre mid.Agree with all of that
Who would have thought last season that our best midfield selection may be
Connolly, Virtue, Carey
P. S I still do not think Connolly is a CB.
I actually think the game ended as a spectacle after the 10 minute break. Although in the scheme of football crowd violence is was pretty low down the pecking order it was still painful to watch and the whole atmosphere within the stadium seemed to change after the restart.Good first half, Crap second half . Reece James did nothing to make me think he is good enough for the championship. On to Thursday now and see what team he puts out against what should be a decent Leeds side .
Problem is, it stays in there and very rarely comes out. There’s a decent player in Dale
Stockport are a league 2 team, not non league.Don't take too much from this game.
All about fitness. Hard to take individual positives just because it's a non league team who are at the same prep level of fitness. Even if it's Leeds you shouldn't take too much from it.
A day out for fans, not much more.
He’s barely got going yet and still scored a worldly last seasonProblem is, it stays in there and very rarely comes out.
Stockport are a league 2 team, not non league.
He has a bit of technical ability and skills on the ball but IMO not Championship quality. There’s a decent player in Dale
