Southport v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread

Turton dribbles into his own box and then passes straight down the middle as if "what could happen". No fear! Hahaha😂🤣

overall quite impressed, only managed to get the second half but there is a lot of movement off the ball which was i think one of the big problems under Larry. the future looks tangerine.

Happy with that. I know it’s only Southport but it was a good look at how we’re going to play next season. Fast and high pressing football baring in mind they’ve not been back in training that long. Hopefully a good sign of things to come

Looks like we are going to see better football next year, but I have a feeling we will still have problems getting the ball in the net.

That was very encouraging. Barely a single long ball played, mostly comfortable on the ball, good movement off it, and high pressing which directly led to the second goal.
We kept the ball better in the first half but didn't have much cutting edge, and the second half demonstrated that spending a bit of money in the right areas of the pitch will reap rewards.
Antwi was very good in the first half, and I was quite impressed with Yates in the second, though no one really had a bad game.

I liked the noise . No quiet nothing , pre season friendly this . Thus was a ,' show us what you can do ' for the whole 90 minutes . Only watching on my phone so couldn't see who was who but the energy and movement was already a huge improvement .
About 1800 viewers too which is crazy for a pre season friendly on a scorchio Saturday . Roll on September

Lots of positives to take from that. I liked the pressing and trying to win the ball back ASAP. Our 2nd goal came from great workrate to get the ball back from Yates.

A decent display whatever the opposition. As has already been said they looked comfortable on the ball, their movement looked good and don't forget this is their first game together, once they start to read each other's games I can see the Pool being quite a force.

In the second half I thought that Kaikai, Anderson, and Yates linked up together very well.

Southport was so poor but there was still plenty of positives and it was good to see the new lads, thought Shaw did the right things when on the ball and definitely looks like he has something about him,Scrafton's match report which stated Garrity was a calming influence in the middle of the park has to be a joke.looked well off it.

Things I noticed in the second half:
  • The use of through balls were great
  • We look really good going forwards
  • Quick sharp passing to get into good positions
  • As soon as we go forward our defensive line is almost on the half way line

Yeah he looked a bit green to me. Antwi looks good.

pleasant suprise to come home and find the match uploaded. Currently watching no idea who is who without teamsheet though lol

20th century or not, I'm not a fan of the keeper and defenders pissing about with the ball from a goal kick. It just invites pressure and the ball is invariably hoofed up the pitch within 10 seconds anyway (if the defending team still has possession for that long).
I agree, there are times to play it out from the back and times to just get rid. I don’t want to go back to Graysons era but sometimes row z is the best option.

I thought Gant Ward did well, the Swindon connection both did well and, Antwi also will be happy with his showing. Not sure where Turton, Feeney, Nottingham and Virtue are going to fit in and I think they will all struggle to make first eleven

The trialist keeper was Harry Flatters. 18 year old was at York until a few years ago then signed for Middlesbrough for about 60k aged 16. Was set to be offered terms there this summer but their budget got slashed after COVID. Distribution isn’t his strong point, but he’s a great shot stopper and commands his box very well.
was this the lad in the first half or second prawnmayo?

Thought Turton, Feeney and Nottingham all played well second half. All useful squad players. I thought Virtue was a bit quiet first half, but maybe we found it easier second half as I'm not sure Southport came out with a completely new team, like we did!

Ive managed to watch the second half before the first half. Just clocked the teamsheet on twitter seems a much stronger side first half.

It’s a good initiative from BFC to have their You Tube channel. A few teething problems today, but in all good work.

Lancashire County Cricket have a You Tube channel too, and screen live their country games too.

If BFC need any help with streaming - Why not contact the lads just released by the Cods media/streaming team ?
