Sterling

He put in a MOTM performance in that first half, marked Brererton-Diaz out of the game in it, was ok second half too, 8/10 overall
I agree. Like I say I couldn't see so well how his second half performance was but first half he was the stand-out performer and I was a little surprised/disappointed to see Anderson get MOTM (although he did ok).

Sterling has been immense since he came in. Pretty faultless all round and the reason Gabriel will not be starting any time soon.

I think we are very fortunate to have him. He's only going to get better. Maybe Critch's work with TAA helped persuade him to come.

Excellent acquisition and I don't think we'd have lost those early games if he'd been here.
Really interesting point @FY16JJ - we do always seem to start a season with one or two key positions missing or players who later arrive and make an impact not having yet signed. Hope we learn from this.

Probably he didn't come available until the end of the window. Prem sides take their time to decide who's in the squad, and a lot of loans get done at the end. I'll take 40 games with Sterling and 6 without over 46 games with someone not as good.

Club would prefer to risk a few games at the start of the season when teams aren’t quite ready in order to get the right players in.
Worked last season and seems to be working this too.

Of course it’s all about balancing the books and investing correctly. If we had untold riches like most of this league think they have, we’d compile the full squad weeks after the end of the previous season.

Chelsea have a phenomenal record in producing right backs. James, Lamptey at Brighton, Litvamenko at Southampton. He’d be better signing for us on a free and playing premier league football in a couple of years. Just a suggestion.

Very, very impressed with his performances especially against Barnsley and Rovers! I am a big fan of Gabriel but as many have already said he has got some mountain to climb to get back in the starting XI. In terms of the most valuable player, you have to flip a coin between Anderson and Bowler - 2 unbelievably talented players who are making an impact every game!
