You might want Trybull or Virtue in midfield. Gabriel at RB. But no great options for midfield and attack. Where are the creativity and the goals? Need some better players in. Morgan is a bit of a gamble, could go either way.

If Trybull is fit he's a certain starter. Better than anything else we've got.

Morgan will also start the season in CM.

I think we need a centre half, a right sided winger and a bigger centre forward for Lavery to play off. That could be Beesley.

I actually don’t think this team would be far off… if you’re only looking at the current best available XI of the rest of the division at this exact moment.

That said, one of these players at least likely won’t be here at the start of the season, and Hubby isn’t ideal at centre half.
 
We need new signings but at the present time I think our strongest starting line up would be something like this:-

Grimshaw

Lyons- Ekpiteta- Tharme- James

Morgan- Trybull- Dougall

Lavery- Yates- Dale

Subs

Bardsley- Gabriel- Husband- Casey- Carey- Hamilton- Beesley

I left Trybull out purely as he has played so little and I wonder how much he will play next season. I don't know that you can be so confident Morgan will start. He joins the squad and fights for a place and is by no means certain to get a starting place, methinks.

Team I would pick. I think Husband is good at centre half. Still looks a week 3 and Yates is leaving so weak front 4.

Is Trybull though? The Trybull of 2017 definitely is, but he’s an absolute unknown quantity at the moment, and after his injury on top of a stint in one of the worst teams in the German 2nd division, I can’t see him being our lynchpin. I hope I’m very wrong!
 
Interesting idea from the O/P. Regardless, I think we’ll see a very different starting side come September when the loans go in/out and we (hopefully) have about 4 incomings of our own.

I would like to see Apter play a role.

Agree, Trybull and Morgan are both unproven and not certain starters IMO.
 
Looked at all of the above and think we're a good 4/5 players off achieving anything.
Sooner Yates gets sold the better or we might not have the start to the season we're all hoping for.
 
From the squad we have available now i would pick this team in a 532 formation

Gabriel & Lyons would both provide good width to the team.

ps I didnt include Jerry as i presume he will be sold.

This team should be a top 6 side. given 4 or 5 good additions i would hope to be pushing for automatic promotion.

Agree about Trybull and I guess Morgan though lol haven’t seen enough of him…I don’t think beesley is the answer and we are still pretty short on quality..think 10 th or 11tg or if we are very lucky scrape the play offs
 
I know a lot of people are talking about those last 6 games but look at the starting XI - we are missing 6 really key players there and it's not as if we have players coming back who are any better than those players. A lot of work to be done to get a decent squad again.

Depends what you mean by gamble. Yates and Keshi had both had good seasons at Swindon and were recommended by Wellens who managed them. Embleton was an U20 England international known to Critch via academy football.
 
Clearly there will be squad changes as the season gets closer.

We need a keeper, left sided centre half, two midfielders, a winger and a target man and probably an additional forward when Jerry goes.

Based on where we are and assuming everyone was fit my team would be as follows:

Grimshaw

Gabriel, Ekpiteta , Husband, James

Lyons , Trybul , Virtue,

Dale, Yates, Hamilton.

Subs: Morgan, Thompson, Beesley, Lavery, Apter, Thame , Goalkeeper.

Turning it on its head would any of the above line ups take points away from home at the likes of Derby Barnsley Bolton Peterborough Portsmouth etc?.

I don't think we are as far away as some may think.Yes we need additions but not wholesale.

I take it as a given we will be a lot tighter defensively under Critchley so the old chestnut of creating and converting enough up the other end will be the litmus test and ultimately govern where we finish.

20+ goals from someone will be a must and double figures from at least one other.

That leads on to someone needing to create them in the first place.

Until we have that we don't know our scoring potential from any of the current strikers on the books and for me is the number one need regardless of Yates staying or going.

Morgan feels like a free hit at this stage that may exceed expectations but you would like to think more will follow.
