Summer Transfer Rumours trois - Will Appy (re)sign anyone?

I made no comment on the EU, this isn’t the place for that. Was merely pointing out that it has negatively affected the transfer market here, don’t twist my words.
You didn’t comment on the EU, no but you introduced the subject of Brexit. Which I will concede hasn’t made the transfer any easier, but in the grand scheme of things it’s a minor inconvenience.

There was no EU legislation preventing the rollout going exactly the same way it did. Any EU member state can pass emergency legislation regarding medicines/vaccines in the event of a crisis.
Is that why they enacted, and quickly retracted, Article 16 to try and prevent us getting supples of the Vaccine?

No I didn’t, I only commented because there had been a big discussion about Brexit already and I was trying to clear it up a little bit.

Sadly, you then came wading in to turn the thread into a discussion on Brexit in general for some reason.

Just to bring this thread on topic even though it's nothing new.

My guess is we've been played by his agent, if the player has told their manager he has no interest in joining us. Warne is a bit of a gob shite but I genuinely don't think there is any hope unless we offered stupid money.

Still have a feeling the Fisayo Dele-Bashiru saga isn't over.

Been almost an entire new week and no talks of his contract progressing at all.

I think if it gets to the final week and they haven't agreed a deal Wednesday might be looking to sell.

I think it says it all about the present state of transfer activity at Bloomfield Road when a thread on players incoming and outgoing gets into a dicussion on Brexit.
i believe our transfer strategy is not fit for purpose.
how did Middlesbrough manage to sign an American the other day?

Because the striker in question had international caps and appearances in La Liga.

It cost 'Boro over 3 Million to make that signing, money that we simply do not have.

The point is that the players that we were able to get cheaply from the EU (Angel, Gomes, Ludo, etc.) did not have that type of pedigree, but were still able to sign them because of the immigration regulations.

Those regulations are now more strict so we are not able to sign that type of player.

This doesn't explain all of our transfer woes, but it is something to keep in mind, because just about every player we've been in for has been UK based, and since many clubs like ourselves are not able to go to the EU, those UK based players have very inflated prices.

Possibly but I think.Wednesday are likely to want to hang on to him and I dont think we have the pulling power at the minute.

I think you over-estimate how strict the visa rules and how strong some of the "top leagues" really are.

It's perfectly possible for us to go in for players in the Belgian, Dutch, Portuguese and Turkish leagues, and players at some of the smaller clubs in the top 5 leagues probably aren't out of reach for a reasonably ambitions Championship club either,.

Looking at the rules there would have been little chance that the likes of Elliot Grandin would have qualified for a visa when we signed him.

Well that is the type of EU player that mid to lower table Championship sides would have been looking to sign in the past. Grandin, Sylvestre, Martinez, etc would all struggle to get enough points to get a GBE and thus qualify for a visa to play in the EPL and EFL.

It has also most likely driven up the price and wages of those EU players who could get a GBE.

At a rough count using This site last season there were 90 odd EU players in the championship, and in 2016 there were 130.

Thats probably within a reasonable margin for error. But according to agents dealing with Irish players Brexit is having a huge impact, though mostly in L1 & 2

What's interesting though is that there was a 91 player increase in the number of players from the UK and Ireland which does point to an increased reliance on British and Irish players.

There’s your answer.
Doesn’t really matter if it’s USA or San Marino, providing the player fits the bill. Loads of African nation players built like brick shïthouses, I’m sure would jump at the chance of playing up front, midfield or right back in the Championship - a shop window for the Prem.

Another thing that was mentioned by the Board that’s been bugging me…
Why are we tracking every deal every club in the Championship is doing?
Surely we should be concentrating on identifying and completing our own transfer targets?!
It’s just wasted energy and resources.

Because we could then snap up a few proven championship quality players from other teams in the division, there are some quality players that become out of favour for various reasons

Rowett now saying we encouraged the Lavery bids and only turned them down due to Madine's injury. No doubt that wont help the lads confidence, or maybe it'll fire him up? But I think that means we know who will be moved out when Mansford/Appleton can find another striker that wants to sign. I just hope they remember Lavery is a young, international, 10 goal Championship striker, replacing him for similar from L1 or L2 would be a downgrade.

It does actually. World ranking plays a part in it.

I dont understand why Rowett should make statements such as this if only to unsettle the player ?
He's probably just explaining exactly whats happened when asked whats happening about the Lavery bid.

Has our recruitment team started to go mad? Are they inviting bids so they get the satisfaction of turning them down? Shoe on the other foot? Is it a kind of self -therapy?

In comparison with all the major inconveniences. 😆

The worlds first rollout of the Covid vaccination , while the EU spent many weeks vacillating.
While we vacillated througout on managing covid through Johnson' s leadership. They all soon caught us up and probably didnt pass on all those huge contracts for Covid masks etc to friends and associates.
