Swansea v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 20.11.21

Former Prem team. Good set up. Excellent at home. I'm proud of what we did today.
Now, in true AVFTT style....could we have been set up better from the start?
*Hope I don't need a tin hat*.
maybe if we had they would of mullered us, with hindsight you could always do things better, but doesn't mean that we set up wrong.
A point at Swansea with a 100 million squad is a good point. We set up right.

Excellent point in the end, I thought we were pretty ordinary throughout although the substitutions livened us up a bit, later on. They have some very good players and work well in their system, so it's definitely a point gained.

I thought the Swans were reenacting Swan Lake as they ut in a lot of dramatic dives - glad to see the ref having none of it

Whilst it wasn’t exciting we were pushing for a point as the match went on
As soon as we scored Critch was yelling at the defenders to push forward

A long trip but a fair point

I was on radio Lancs Camberwell. If you were a neutral, would you have said 'fair shout' to any of their penalty appeals?

Most boring game of the season I’d say, only came to life in the last 10 minutes when both teams started having a go, I’d have taken a point before kick off and we nearly snatched all 3 at the end!

FWIW

I watched on a dodgy stream.

Swansea reminded me of how TJJ plays: feels a touch, goes down theatrically. The referee was consistent in waving play on for the vast majority of physical challenges. I'm sure they teach diving at PL academies.

The game was just a bit boring, Swansea just appeared to want to suffocate the game and did it really well for the most part.

Their goal was a peach, even if we didn't get quite close enough it was still some finish.

At no point did I think we were getting outclassed and given this lot have an incredible resilience I said to the boys not to give up hope.

Sadly I missed our goal as I had to put a bath on for MrsTSS; I heard, "go on, SHHHOOOTT and delirium" and just chuckled to myself.

I hoped we'd get a draw, I'm delighted we have

It's another point to safety and keeps us in the mix 👍

I really like Sterling but I agree with your comments, it has to be one or the other and I agree Gabriel as he is outstanding and he's our player. Maybe a completely different position for Sterling? The player who I would be happy to not be in the team is Connolly, I thought he was really poor today.
Let's not make Connolly the next player we decide is rubbish.
He is a useful squad player who was thrown in at the deep end to try to nullify a very strong Swansea team.
If Critch is happy to play him then he must be doing something right.

Critch was full of praise for Connolly in his post match presser.
I've no problem with his selection, bearing in mind Dougall's possible jet lag, BUT he was just another slightly negative adjustment.
Likewise with Demi. Again I follow Critch's reasoning but he's just slightly more negative than Bowler which to be fair is probably what we needed today.
BUT, again, put these all together and overall it flattens the performance.
It was still a good point though and Critch knows best.

They never hurt us apart from the worldy they managed just a couple of long range efforts, We stepped it up when we needed to and could even have won it. With their home record they deserved the respect we showed them but a point and job done with Lavery getting some confidence boosting minutes. I'd expect Madine starting against a more physical West Brom with Yates or Lavery playing off him.

Very pleased with the draw. Think we could have beaten them with the team that finished the match. Just heard NC on Radio Lancs say he changed our formation to match Swansea. Was full of praise for Swansea, and I suppose we gave them too much respect in the first hour.

Been down the road to watch West Didsbury & Chorlton today so I only know the score and the stats from the Pool game, but I'm pretty chuffed with that. A very good point and sounds like we held up against a strong side in great form at home. Without Kenny in midfield - having to use connolly there affects the balance surely - and without Uncle Dick. And Lavery got minutes, Sterling back, and we might see Iceman soon. Looking forward to the Baggies game now.

Listened on BBC Wales, their commentary team was good and said it was a fair result. Very positive about our performance and how we set up today to nullify their threat. They also said Connolly had a great game marking Grimes (shame he didn’t get closer to their goal scorer).

Great point!

Yep a few squad changes. As always they pretty much slot in like they've always been there. Two decent teams tactically cancelled each other out. Point each. Job done after that international break I'd say

It feels a bit silly to say this or tempting fate, but it has the feels of one of those “the force is with us seasons” that just keeps getting better and better
I look where we are in the league (I genuinely thought we would find it harder than we are) and think this team/squad can only get better. Sneak into the play offs and then well we know what happens generally after that. UTMP

Swansea had only conceded four goals at home all season so gives some indication of what we were up against today. Very solid defensively, with enough pace and strength and numbers to nullify jerry up on his own.
I was surprised at how cautious Swansea were, but it goes to show the progress so far, that we can match to all intents and purposes a PL side. On the BBC their fans seem to think they were lucky to come away with a point

Otherwise known as a Critch season. 🤠

No side looks a lot better than us, and we WILL improve. It's all up for grabs I think.

Doubt we could have moaned about the 3rd one - Husband did seem to connect ... but they'd been such divers that I think the ref thought they were calling 'Wolf' again - he was right ... c'mon Pool - success becomes a habit.

Swansea are the most boring footballing team I’ve seen. Just ruined the game. We then decided to do what they did. James had a disaster tbh. Connolly isn’t Kenny. Marv shakey.

Husband MOTM by a mile.

Just couldn’t do that on match day or at least listen to live commentary on my iPhone.

Just watched it on Quest and their final penalty claim when Husband clearly trod on their player`s foot as said above was a stone cold penalty but after the QPR fiasco we were certainly due one.

How some on here could claim it was a dive just shows how some, but not all on here watch through their tangerine specs and are totally unreliable and biased but on a fans website I suppose that`s inevitable.

Their player made too much of it though - like he'd been shot, ref was sick of it. I'm with the ref.
