The Squid Game - Netflix

On course to be Netflix's mosted watched show ever.

There is more to it than just the 'game show'.

My daughter told me to watch it with subtitles but we are cheating and watching the dubbed version.

Really enjoyed it, I wish I had watched it with subtitles though as some of the dubbed voices were slightly over the top!

Watched the first 2 episodes the other night. Very odd but quite compelling. Will watch more and see where we go.

Can also recommend 'Ganglands' available on Netflix. Six episodes of about 45 minutes each. Gritty drug gang drama.

A brilliant series, kept me entertained and well worth a watch if you don't mind badly dubbed or subtitled foreign programmes.

Just finished watching Midnight Mass, very good, and the main character Father Hill/Pruitt is a dead ringer for our Simon Sadler!

Come on guys, we still really putting crap English dubs on foreign shows? Put the subtitles on and appreciate a show with its natural dialogue 🤨🤨

I'm usually not averse to watching a dubbed show. But the dub was so bad on Squid Game I had to watch it with subtitles and it's massively better. The dub makes it seem very bizarre, and some bits which were supposed to be quite serious made me laugh out loud. I find with subtitles that it's much easier to find the bits that are funny, genuinely funny, and the bits that are supposed to be serious actually serious, vs the dub which makes everything seem wacky and slapstick.

Lavery is watching this according to Sofa Talk; I must say from what I’ve read here, not sure it’s enticing me, last thing I watched with dubbed voice was probably Monkey back in the early 80’s!

Started watching the new version of Monkey actually, whilst the original was crappy effects and dodgy dubbing but funny the new one is Aussie, crappy effects, dodgy accents and not funny! But I might stick with it, will give Squid a go though.

(Lips moving for about 5 minutes) “ok!”

Just finished binge watching it. Yep, highly recommended. Watched a couple of episodes in Korean with subtiles but watched most in English even though the Clint Eastwood type voice is off putting.

Given all the hype I’ve tried to watch it to join in but it’s just so bad I have given up. The acting is so over the top it’s unreal and the dubbed voices are hilarious. I assume it is a Far Eastern style of acting?
Reminds me of watching the TV show Monkey as a kid, another load of crap!

It's takes a bit of getting used to and is sometimes a bit weird, but I really like series that attempt something a little different. The themes have been done before (they all have), but it's the method they choose to show it that's a different and quirky.
I thought the acting at first was a bit OTT but then it got better and by the end was excellent especially by the main character. The key in any TV show (or book for that matter) is that it has to make you care about the characters to keep the interest, which it did. Really enjoyable, hope there's a second season.

I thought the acting was great and you need to watch it in he original language with subs. Dubbed is terrible

An interesting enough series; with the question "what would I do?" hanging over you throughout. Had some good discussions with my youngest as a result. (He closed his eyes at the bits he didn't like). Episode 6 being the most challenging.

A little predictable and weak in some moments, but a decent watch all in all.

Just got to the end of episode 5 of Midnight Mass. I thought it started promisingly but just got too ridiculous and I may just sack it off now.

I never saw Ozark when it first came out so just got round to watching it. Think I've done eight episodes so far. It's good but from reviews I read on here was maybe expecting a bit more from it.

Just finished so not read this thread till the now.

Enjoyed it, gruesome as it was and agree some of the acting was comically over the top (watched in Korean with subtitles). But it was interesting to see South Korea and a little of how they live and that they too seem to have extremes of wealth and poverty and gambling and drink/drug issues too.

We - for the most part - know little of these South Asian cultures so it was good to get a taste and nice to know they enjoy a good story as we do and that a sense of humour and a sense of decency exists too.
