The Summer Transfer Thread - Part 1.

I wouldn’t keep any of this year’s loans to be honest, too lightweight even for the 3rd Division. I’d offer Thorniley a new contract but wouldn’t lose sleep if all the others went. We’ve a huge rebuilding job to do.

First and foremost though is getting the new coach in place - and as others have said it would be good for that to be this week. SB has made a good case since he took over and the benefit of giving it to him is his knowledge of the squad. He knows who we need and who we don’t.

Part of the reason we’re the worst team in the Championship this year is that we dithered at so many parts of the season. When Critchley walked out we took far too long finding a replacement and then went for someone who was tripe first time here and even worse this time. He didn’t get financial support but even so he had his favourites and his tactics were poor. We dithered far too long in getting shot of him and had no plan B, dredging the depths to get MM - and then dithered and took much too long to show him and his awful style of football the door, giving Stephen Dobbie insufficient time to turn things around.

So, Simon, hopefully lessons will have been learned. Do things earlier. Get the manager/coach in and give him the financial backing he needs because most of this squad aren’t good enough to hack League 1.

Reckon we've really fucked up Ian Poveda. Loads of ability and played a pretty regular role as a Leeds sub. Now he's just the guy that couldn't get a place in that Blackpool team that went down - a team as shit as most supporters can remember. Poor sod. Maybe we should try to sign him?
He’s done that himself, that’s not on us at all

Loan Watch
Owen Dale 5ft 9, Age 24, 37 games for Portsmouth.
Matt Virtue 5ft 9, Age 25, 29 games at Lincoln.
Doug Tharme 6ft, Age 23, 29 games at Accrington.
Reece James 6ft, Age 29, 25 at Sheffield Wednesday
Oliver Casey 6ft 2, Age 22, 21 games at edit Forest Green
Tayt Trusty, Age 19, 4 games at Hartlepool - send him out on loan again.

This poses two questions.
Are any of those good enough to play in the Championship, or a team with aspirations of being at the Top of League 1?
Were any of those seen as one of the best players in their respective team?

Yes and yes
We are no longer a Championship club, and all those mentioned apart from Trusty played regular, L1 football and most are below the age when footballer are supposed to peak (27).
Casey was players, player of the season in a, poor Forest Green side.
So all easily good enough for L1 and some, may develop into Championship players.
We should not discount them simply because we loaned them out.
Suspect Reece James is better than any LB we have, as Lyons, will be needed as RB to cover Gabriel's injury and that probably also means, we need Connolly as cover.

Al Garve being rumoured. Winger, quite tricky though doesn't like the cold so a bit of a gloves in August type if he signs.

You see what you've done now Insy?? Trammo is going to flood this with his witticisms and players names, If I see you I'm going to beat you!!! 😂😂

I do not think Nelson is that good, ok but nothing special. Cardiff were happy to get shut and they are not much better than us.
Hopefully Dobbie gets the job and checks if Tharme or Casey are any good, if not we need new blood Connolly and Husband played CB far too regularly, maybe down to injuries, but our CB pairing has been weak all season
Considering Forrest Green and Accy are both relegated it doesn't seem Tharm or Casey are the answer!

Reckon our defence isn't too bad.
Midfield a massive decade long priority.
Attack too - so Rogers would be good. Major issue if Jerry goes.
Need a goal scorer - like DJ Campbell.
Our defence is a strange one, man for man they seem decent, particularly for league one. The issue is down to coaching and organisation which is why I would like us to get an established manager who can keep us solid, picking up 1-0 wins - all the top teams get promoted on the back of a strong defence.

A 26yr old, 1 in 3 goal striker, with a 2yr contract, does not and should not come cheap. I'd lose a massive amount of respect for Sadler if he chose to sell him for anything south of £3M.
Ugh. How many league one strikers have you seen sold for three million quid? You talk nonsense.

Would like to see Dobbie given the job this week, then down to him to pick his team to support him.
Then let him get on with the job of telling the board who he wants to keep and get rid of along with his list of transfer targets. Doesn't matter who we want to stay or go, he knows what's needed and what he wants. He will be aware of what sort of budget he'll likely have and realistically know what players he can get in. Unfortunately he'll also be aware of what players we will likely be losing once the season ends.
But I honestly feel give him the job now and let him crack on and come July we can all get optimistic about a good 23/24 season. Who knows we could possibly go to Wembley twice and pick up some more silverware unlike them boring pointless fu#kers down the road.
As they say on the Northern Soul scene " KEEP THE FAITH"

We conceded more goals than anyone else,
Admittedly the lack of a defensive midfield shield contributed, but a lot of those conceded were set plays, or crosses from wide positions, so maybe the defence is not that good

Another clown, who doesn't have a clue. Just off the top of my head:

Toney - Peterborough to Brentford £6M
Watkins - Exeter (L2) to Brentford £2M in 2017!

There are many more. Yates has proven he can cut it at Championship level in an average/poor team, he's only 26 and has 2yrs on his contract.

Maybe you need to give up commenting if you have zero knowledge on football, which probably makes you a nobber. 😂

Really the circus is calling your name not mine. Compare players. I like Yates but he would not have the impact of Toney or Watkins hence they won’t get what you think they will for him.

Inny, we're nearing a hundred posts in just one day, with no news in any of them 🤣
Maybe you should have stipulated that we can only post when we have decent rumours or confirmed leavers or confirmed sightings of players / cars at Bloomfield Road 🤣🤣

Can’t contain my excitement at the prospect of a string of 1-0s
