The Summer Transfer Thread - Part 1.

Right the fat lady has finally sung so due to popular request here it is.
Ins and outs are permitted, players and coaches, but no bad grammar or spelling mistakes please.
First move, today, should be to give Dobbie a contract.
Dobbie has to get it for me and if he is going to be appointed you would expect it to be this week now our season is finished - Norwich aside. Let it all settle over the weekend then a appointment this week so he can get on with the released/retained list and then crack on with recruitment. If SD doesn’t get appointed this week it says to me they have someone else in mind. Please 🙏 god not Alexander or Quitchley!!

First recruitment for me is the back room medical staff Inc fitness coaches. If even half of our injured players had been available I’m sure we’d be starting next season as a Championship club.

Why so many injuries (training pitch, nutrition, recovery, over playing, inherent injury prone recruited) and how is that to be improved.

If we could have had Stewart, Bridcutt or Tribal in all the games (so even if 16 games each) we’d have been mid table.

2nd Job is get rid off the sicknotes who are out of contract.
However would like Keshi to stay.
Massive summer ahead of us, thinning the squad, look at returning loanees, and sign Morgan Rogers hopefully
Morgan Rogers is way out of our league financially and Citeh really rate him. I’d love Keshi to stay as he will tear up lg1 but Champ teams will want him so he will go. But I agree a full clear out is required, not based on sentiment but on who can get us out of lg1 and compete in the champ. Two other points for me, 1. A statement from Sadler on timetable for an appointment, what recruitment will be and long term plan/vision and 2. A full and in depth review (and replacement if required) of our medical/sports science set up as our injury and recovery record over the last two years is appalling.

I don't personally believe that huge changes to the squad are needed. If anyone has the information it would be good to have the complete picture for next season in terms of
1. Players under contract;
2. Players out of contract with options for a further season and
3. Players out of contract.

Given our experience this season, we need to off-load players who are injury prone (Stewart, Bridcutt, Madine, Virtue), but my gut feeling is that we already have the makings of a strong squad for League 1.

Hope we keep Nelson. I'd be surprised if Rogers makes it as a city player. He's been ok for us - but close control looks iffy. Midfield (last 5 yrs) and upfront has got to be the focus. Just hope we don't think that because we're in L1 we should keep a lot of our players. Gotta be ruthless.
I do not think Nelson is that good, ok but nothing special. Cardiff were happy to get shut and they are not much better than us.
Hopefully Dobbie gets the job and checks if Tharme or Casey are any good, if not we need new blood Connolly and Husband played CB far too regularly, maybe down to injuries, but our CB pairing has been weak all season

Nelson would be a rock at lg1 and to be honest I believe he is a realistic option for us - you can’t imagine Champ teams wanting him unless it’s those who will be in the bottom 5 or 6

Sit down with Nelson, Keshi and Thornily and ask if they have any intention of signing a new contract, if deals can be struck, get them done. Check in with Jerry, ask if he's 100% up for 'project L1 champions' with Blackpool, if he is, extend his deal to show our intent. Let all the players with +1s who we feel are surplus know now, thank them for their services. Once we have our core squad of players, target 4 big signings for L1, proven quality at that level. Get into Rogers and possibly Fiorini about coming back on loan, in L1 they would be assets. Oh and appoint a good manager and send Mansford packing. We need a sacrificial head on a stick, his seems like the best to use.

If you were Yates why on earth would you sign an extension? Lack of support for him this year is a prime factor of our relegation.

I don't think Stewart has played a single game for us this season - has he been paid during the season?
Hopefully Tybull will be fit for next season, and one to build around, we need some great young mids, not released 'has been' crocks.

I also think we need to sit everyone down and see if their hearts in next season and if not get rid. Those who we may struggle to keep hold of make it clear they are key to our plans and make sure they feel wanted and are paid what they deserve. The next bit is the hard but… go get quality fit prospects and a few quality old heads in. Get this all done quick sharp and wave them off on their jollies and then get planning preseason and sit down with the sports scientists and discuss the hamstring issues

Mansford out, Dobbie in would be the first decision to be made and I would give Dobbie the job permanently before the Norwich game to show how committed and impressed we are with what he has and can achieve.

We need to get back to targeting the best young players in league two (full back positions especially) and a couple of strong physical proven players at league one level to boss defence and central midfield for us, and somehow find a Jerry Yates clone

I'd rather make the effort to keep Thorniley than Nelson.

I fancy only Keshi will be done out of that 3.

Thorniley is very good, but misses a lot of games. Nelson is OK, but I don't think he's great and you'd want better if we got promoted back up.

Rodgers I fancy could well happen and if we can't afford the fee, it will be sacrificed in favour of a large sell on fee. His wages could be a problem. I believed Fiorini was here with a view to a perm deal, but now wages would be a massive problem and I fancy he'll go on loan to a c/ship team with the same try before you buy deal in place.

One thing we mustn't do is when the loans come back is to absorb them into the squad with little chance of them playing.

It needs a rebuild on very little money.

Yates will go and I know it won't go down well on here, but I'd sell him quickly. We don't want another Bowler situation, selling our best player on transfer deadline day and not having time to replace him. Get the money in for his transfer and reinvest in the summer.
Also I think Anderson will get picked up by a Championship Club, if he can play on a regular basis he's at that level.

Couldn't agree more Chunky.
It's mystified me how we managed to get such a terrible injury list - that amount of injuries almost borders on negligence.

Does anyone think that this seasons loan players won’t have enjoyed it much here and wouldn’t want to return?

Five things to focus on for starters:

1. Appoint Dobbie.
2. In appointing Dobbie, recognise the style he favours which is playing through midfield and possession based. With that in mind, we need players who can take the ball to feet, with a good first touch, knows how and when to pick a pass. The point I'm trying to make is the player recruitment needs to match the manager's intentions for the team - it needs to be a coherent strategy. You'd think that would be obvious, but apparently not this season.
3. We need to stop perpetually thinking that Kevin Stewart will play any meaningful part for us, ever. He won't. Get rid, it's money that could be put towards someone who will make a difference for us on the pitch. The same goes for Bridcutt.
4. Following on from point 3, experience and leadership in midfield must be the priority area for strengthening this summer. If we continue without it, we will struggle even in league one.
5. Try and persuade Keshi and Yates to stay. I'd be surprised if they do, but if they're still here next season it will make a massive difference to our chances.

I'm not saying he would but the club should at least try. He's loved by our fans, playing and scoring, would it not be a huge statement if the club were to extend the 2yrs he has remaining?

I wouldn’t dream of it. Our wages are crap and way below the going rate so we’re not going to attract the players to make us better or help him become a better player. I’d be looking to move asap.

A general observation I would make is that the team this season cried out for leadership. Keogh was sorely missed, and if you compared it with say the 2010 team (leaving aside ability) we had few, if any, players with presence. Evo, Gnashers, Charlie and even (by way of his example) Vaughan, imposed themselves on games.

Also, we were a small side with considerably less physicality (psycho Madine apart) than a lot of our opponents. Like others have said, careful and smart reconstruction of the squad will be vital.

You're talking rubbish, our wages may well be low in the Championship but I'd expect us to be very competitive in L1. He's got 2yrs left on his current deal so it would take a big offer to tempt us to sell at any rate.

A player’s career is short and can be over in a heartbeat. Jerry did his best and needs to ensure he has his best possible career and provides for his family. If that’s rubbish to you oh well, I’ll live.

Before we sign any player we need to appoint a manager who can use the bulk of our contracted players to blossom in a system he can coach well. If we don’t we’ll end up with a squad of misfiring misfits.

Clearly, the current squad will be slimmed down to both meet the cap on the numbers in L1, free up some space for new players and budget for those players. I would like to see Matty Virtue back . At Lincoln he has played regularly, performed well, scored goals and bulked up.

Sadly, we’ll probably lose Jerry and probably Keshi, as he’s shown what he can do after his injury. Marv would have been nailed on to go twelve months ago, but his form dipped and then he’s been injured, so hopefully we’ll keep him. How we replace Poveda, Fiorini, Rogers, and Patino I’ve no idea.

Big decisions by the powers that be and a big summer for us all.

Reckon we've really fucked up Ian Poveda. Loads of ability and played a pretty regular role as a Leeds sub. Now he's just the guy that couldn't get a place in that Blackpool team that went down - a team as shit as most supporters can remember. Poor sod. Maybe we should try to sign him?

I reckon we've potentially got a chance to sign Fiorini and Rogers. Would be great permanent additions.

We need a couple of actual right backs now JG fucked (not Connolly, sorry lad).

We need to keep hold of Nelson and Judd, otherwise we're in the market for some experienced CBs. I know we've got Tharme and Casey but they're lacking the experience (both relegated from L1 this year as well...)

Probably need a LW and RW as well considering most of our players in that position are on loan...

Lastly....

WE NEED TO SIGN A PROPER CENTRAL MIDFIELDER (Or maybe we can hope that Stewart has grown a real human pair of legs over the entirety of this season that hes been out..?)

I’d say apart from Fiorini, we don’t need to replace them with like for likes. We need players that fit the new manager’s system. Charlie Kirk isn’t as good as any of them, but he was a lot more useful for what we needed.

I wouldn’t blame Jerry for leaving - obviously he’d prefer to be in the Championship but also the way he has been messed around by Critchley, Appleton and McCarthy dropping him to bench, playing him out of position etc.

Yeah, NC really fucked Jerry. Hope he gets a good move (if we lose him) - weren't Rangers sniffing. Bet he'd like that opp.
