The Summer Transfer thread - Part 1.

I'm hearing we won't be having a Development Squad next season.
We'll just utilise the loan market for our 19-21 yr olds.
To be honest until we build the training ground its not really practical.
Critch MK1 told me to my face he doesn't like "reserve team" football.
I wonder where that leaves Dobbie?
He could take on a loan manager role which seems to be a popular way of managing the same situation at the top level. Ideally, he could also start coaching with the first team strikers as their movement and interplay was bloody awful last season.

The only thing we know is that Sadler has been charged and the club have said it's BAU. Will it impact the club and will Sadler be convicted are two questions that will be answered in the fullness of time. I see little point fearing the worst at this point.
Hard to not fear the worst after Oyston and Belokon....and Pilley's Cods.

You can't compare any of those situations though. Ultimately the club is in a better shape now than what it was before Simon took over. The truth is we don't really know what being convicted would mean for him, his company or BFC. I just think we're adding fuel to the fire worrying about it. If it's proven and he is found guilty, he'll deserve whatever punishment comes with it.

Huge scoop if true.

Guess it makes sense as we don’t really have the facilities for a dev team and going out on loan makes much more sense.

Would like Dobbie to be offered a role on the coaching staff, but could see him getting a full time gig at a team lower down the pyramid.

In better shape except for the £20m currently owed to him. I believe we have reason to worry at present.

Kemp should be available on free as his contract ends this summer and being age 25 means no compensation due.

There are a few other quality young players in League 2 also out of contract:
Conor Masterson - Gillingham - CB (25) - 6 goals and their player of the season.
Jack Nolan - Accrington - Winger (22) - 31 goal involvements (17 goals + 14 assists).
Rio Adebisi - Crewe - LB (23) - 12 goal involvements.

Trying to sign these four players for free seems like a no brainer.
Yes, Nolan a left footed winger who scores and creates goals. Critchley would soon knock that out of him and convert him to a right wing back!

If this is true, it all seems very Mickey Mouse?

Tend to agree. It might have been long planned I suppose, and maybe make some sense while we await a mew training ground, but after the news on Thursday it all feels a bit like ‘slash and burn’.
I've no reason to disbelieve what I was told. I'm also certain it was a decision taken a long time before Thursday's announcement. We will still have players in that age group but not as many.
IMO the biggest problem is being able to find somewhere for the Academy to play with specific reference to the u18s and Dev Squad but it reality it applies to all age groups.

I’d like to hope the summer brings a rethink to the formation. I get why he tried it as the previous season Plymouth and Ipswich both went up playing 3-5-2 but I’m not convinced it suits Critchleys coaching style.

I’d also like our recruitment team to go a little ‘Football Manager” (Game). Take players of the season from the Conference and Div 2 teams (excluding those who have celebrity or billionaire owners). There will certainly be competition for those players but we can hold our own in terms of attraction.

Our most pressing need is up front. We lacked most the Gary Madine / Ellis Simms player. Kouassi probably needed a loan season in Div 2 to have got more game time and improved and Beesley/Joseph are not the aggressive back to the goal players despite their height.

Couldn't agree more!
There are so many quality young players in League Two and also League One clubs smaller than us that we should be poaching.

League Two players like: Isaac Hutchinson (Walsall), Jayden Fevrier (Colchester), Jack Currie (Wimbledon), Joe Tomlinson (MK dons), Shadrach Ogie (Gillingham), Abraham Odoh (Harrogate), Kian Spence (Barrow)...

I like the look of Bradford's Jack Young who scored 16 goals on loan at Swindon (alongside Dan Kemp). He is a big strong lad who averaged a goal contribution every 106 minutes.

I’m playing golf tomorrow with Ben Knight from Man City so I’ll ask him to sign for us 😜 great midfield player been on loan at Stockport. I won’t sign his application for membership at our golf club if he doesn’t sign! 😂
He mentioned playing in the same team as Dembele for England under 17’s or under18’s and what a fantastic player he was before he had his downturn in form. Said he was incredibly strong and difficult to knock off the ball. Full of praise for our season’s star player.

Thw fat lady has sung.
In the words of Mr Critch;
"We face an important Summer"
We certainly do so lets start with the retained list.
If we are looking for predictions I'll start with;
A new contract for Hubby.
A 2 year deal for Rhodes, 1+1 with options favouring both parties.
Another off season and another re-build, rinse and repeat every summer, it’s getting tiresome.

Do not trust the Chinese after Covid, they are probably just making a point tit for tat, we stop them having computer systems in vital UK industries, so they manufacture spurious case against British financial main player in Hong Kong

Tbh that's the way it is and always has been. You build a squad for the division you are in and build another one when you get promoted (Pompey have released 10). When we got in the PL we were the exception to.the rule because our owner and Chairman thought otherwise.
Yeah, I know what you mean, but the 'model' is you keep your best players as much as you can realistically and replace the inferior ones with better, so you improve year on year.

You can't keep replacing your best players as they leave, loans this year for us. It means you start from a low base.

You do NOT buy Dale and Wright and sell them for a loss. I don't know if that's correct but I can't see it being any other way.

Can’t see him ditching his classroom 3-5-2

I have seen a bit of National League football this season and I would highly recommend a young winger from Aldershot called Josh Stokes. Has a good few goals this season.

I notice Irish lad Chris Conn-Clarke has a massive goal tally as well for Alty despite being an attacking midfielder.

Does anyone actually think we’ll push the boat out and splash some cash on new faces or simply recruit free transfers who other clubs have released?

It’s the later for me i am afraid just don’t think the cash is there for new players given the training ground the east stand and Sadlers day/days in court looming.

We need to to make some serious signings that will bring the fans in. Sean Raggett, Keanu Baccus, Ronan Curtis, Michael Smith players of this ilk are required Byers also, to increase the season ticket sales the 5 listed would go a long way to changing the optimism we have. I’m sure there are other players mentioned on here. Critchley must know he has to get this right.

If Byers is on 14k per week week must have paid half ? There are plenty of midfielders available we could attract. Byers is good but the club will have so much to spend and he may not be what we want !

Bristol City own Stokes.

I wouldn’t hold my breath over the TG either.
