In the words of Mr Critch;
"We face an important Summer"
We certainly do so lets start with the retained list.
If we are looking for predictions I'll start with;
A new contract for Hubby.
A 2 year deal for Rhodes, 1+1 with options favouring both parties.

Just been on transfermarkt and this is the list of expiring contracts, ignore Dembele and Coulson as those are only the loans here expiring, Byers and Rhodes interestingly are available on a free this summer. I would activate the year on Husband and Connolly's contracts, release Chapman and O'Donnell, offer Ekpiteta and Lavery new contracts, and offer Rhodes and Byers permanents, not sure about Virtue

Our priority must be another rapid player on the wing who can't tackle, cross a ball or trip over his own feet when passing, thus would be to have balance on either side.
Then you move to talented youngsters who would either be farmed out to the dog and duck in the northern 8th division to complete his apprenticeship or put in the development squad never to be seen again despite already showing what a good player he is in the 1st place .
Defenders, we need players who can pass 10 yards SIDEWAYS before lumping it up to a player no bigger than a leprechaun being marked by a giant.
Midfield, we need great passers who can spot a pass either backwards or sideways.
Forwards, will be asked what to do with a banjo and cow's arse and in the eventuality they can actually hit it will be discarded.

I think we're in for a great closed season👍🏻

How can anyone take you serious when you’re offering Connolly a new deal ?

So how many posts, all parts, do posters think this will run to between now and 2nd Sep 2024.

I activate the option to get money for him, whats the point in just releasing on a free when the club can activate the 1 year option and possibly get £500k for him to hopefully be used to buy a better player
There’s absolutely no way on gods earth we’re going to realise £500k for Callum Connolly. Hardly anybody is throwing half a mil around in L1 these days and if they are, they’re not spending it on 30 year old utility players.
The club will release him as he’s on very good wages

O Donnell is a very good cover for Grimmy.
Let Hubby and Connolly go
Lavery and Eki can go we need fresh blood

There are some very good players in league 2, who could step up
Langstaff- Notts County- 28 goals, 5 assists
Matt Smith- MK Dons- 24 goals, 7 assists
Keillor- dunne- Mansfield- 22 goals, 10 assists
Daniel Kemp- Mk Dons- 17 goals, 10 assists
Will Evans- Newport- 21 goals- 3 assists

I thought Dan Kemp looked pretty good at times in his short spell with us.

You forgot, our midfielders shouldn't be able to tackle, otherwise we will control the game and have too much of the ball. Perhaps resigning Oakley-Booth should be our first move!

I think he meant 50p!!

Even if we sign the loanees we like it’s not enough. We still fell short. It is worrying that Critchley didn’t improve any players this season especially Lavery and Joseph. We got rid of our proven goalscorer and the gamble did not pay off. If we repeat this season next season it would be throwing another five million away. Stubborn is not a good trait for any owner. You end up penny wise pound foolish.

Really @BFC_Aspie - you want another season of Connolly and Lavery? Two of the reasons we’ve ended up where we are!
If those two stay, that says everything about next season’s ambition.

There's so many positions that need strengthening it's hard to know where to start. After watching the game today, I think our main priority needs to be the forward line. None of our strikers are good enough I'm afraid, they just don't have the required strength and technical ability, and the only genuine pace we have comes from a player that fails on all the other basics of being a footballer 90% of the time.
We must sign some players to ensure we can score more goals away from home.

9/10 should go IMO. Critchley has to improve on this squad and he will be under pressure to achieve this. How much money we spend will determine the quality we get in. Should be interesting.

I'd like us to sign Rhodes, Coulson and Byers although I suspect Byers will end up elsewhere.

Of those out of contract I'd extend Carey and offer Hubby and O'Donnell new deals. The rest can go.

Gabriel can also go if we get a suitable offer. I like the lad but he's injury prone and the money could he used to strengthen us where we need it, up front.

A lot of work to do for our recruitment team but at least those cogs can start turning now, rather than being delayed 2 or 3 weeks.

500 K my arse, just let him go ! He’s not worth 500 Quid unfortunately.

I think Husband will sign a new deal. He’s a good player, can play a variety of positions and is a leader in the dressing room.

I‘d love to sign Marv up to a new deal but I reckon he‘ll be looking for a move to the Championship or at least a move South and some bigger wages. I’m not sure he’d be too hard to replace tbf. CB‘s never seem to be.

Based on how he ended the season I’d extend Carey’s deal be a year.

O‘Donell obviously offers a lot behind the scenes and has been a solid cup GK and safe option off the bench. Probably worth another 12 months if he’s happy seeing out his career as back up with a view to coaching the kids etc.

Of the other out of contract players I can’t say I’d be sad to see them go.

Of the loanees I actually think Rhodes will join on a 1+1.

I think a deal is likely possible for Coulson unless Middlesbrough are struggling at LB or have some financial problems.

Byers could be trickier - he‘s out contract but could possibly be offered a new deal at Wednesday if they’re relegated and will also attravt interest throughout League 1. Signing him would be a yard stick against which our budget and ambitions could be measured.

We‘ll have to watch Kaddy from afar as he either tears up Ligue 1 with Brest or joins one of the top Championship Clubs (my bet is whichever of Southampton or Leeds miss out on promotion).

We need at least 2 match ready, forwards who will each get into the mid/high teens.

We need some power and strength in the midfield - ideally height too. Probably 2 or 3 depending on departures.

And we need to find a creative midfielder who will run at the opposition as relying on Apter to replace Kaddy is just plain unfair.

Would also like a left sided CB depending on departures too.

Ideally I’d also like a couple of out and out wingers - with pace and a decent final ball. I‘m not convinced the WB option is a preference as opposed to a response to the ability of existing players (CJ is a winger but can’t cross 90% of the time - but can get into the same positions of a winger only from much deeper, whilst Dale could cross but lacked pace and presence and left the Left wing exposed defensively) WB‘s were therefore preferred for balances sake and to support a lightweight midfield.

Always liked Kemp but not sure we would be able to sign him now

Would be good to have half a dozen or so academy/young pros around the first team squadI to help bolster it and keep things fresh. Hopefully Apter would be more than this and a first team regular.

I really don’t know if we have any that are ready for this or not?

Glad you’re not the manager, Renew Connolly on 6k a week? No thanks 😂

If Expeteta and Hubby stay we will always be conceding goals like today, both caught ball watching. We need better.
Hubby going forward is pretty useless so you would think if he is worth a place it is defensively .Twice yesterday he was AWL and gazing into space as Reading scored. If he can`t even mark his man and get that right there must surely be other defenders available who can do a better job both defensively and going forward.

At best he should be a squad player like Thorniley is at Oxford. If NC is staying then we need a true, tall left-sided CH who can bring the ball out. I would get in the queue for Bosun Lawal on loan from Celtic if he is available, they may consider he is capable of breaking through into their first team next season.

If we're also looking at new faces at this time, I would be tempted to bid for Fankaty Dabo at Forest green, he seemed to be handy last season at Coventry, and is worth a punt in league one, and since everyone seems to want a new defensive mid instead of Connolly, I would try and get Michael Rosiak in on loan from Arsenal as he's meant to be highly rated there.
